Nine defensive linemen added that didn't play a down last year?

Very quietly, some important things are happening on the defensive front.

What if...Dallas adds the following list of players by camp, none of which played a down for Dallas last year?

Henry Melton

Jeremy Mincey

Terrell McClain

Tyrone Crawford

Ben Bass

Anthony Spencer

Aaron Donald/Tim Jernigan/Dee Ford - first round

Another d-line draft pick in round 2 or 3

Josh Brent (not by camp)

That's nine players to go with George Selvie and Nick Hayden. That is an entirely different group than what Dallas rolled out the last half of last year.

That sounds like a plan. Rod Marinelli's plan.

I wouldn't count on Josh Brent to be back with the team any time soon, if ever. He just got 180 days but more then that, the NFL hasn't really spoken as yet, so far as I know. I'm thinking that the last thing Goody and the NFL want is Brent playing in front of TV audiances any time soon. JMO

Championship?

Seriously though , it can't be any worse than last year's d-line. Right?

I would say emphatically no. That was hard to watch. It was like watching a big brother with his hand on his little brother's forehead while he's swinging away.

I heard that any suspension will take into account time he's already been away. But I'm not sure.

I'm not really for him coming back, but I'm resigned to the likelihood he is.

Thanks for saying that. I don't understand why people want Brent back. Also, it's time to move on from Spencer.

I disagree. Brent was tried, convicted and he is paying his debt to society. If he elects to play football again then he should have that opportunity.

It may be taken into consideration but that may not mean that there is not more time, added by the Commish. Like time served, you might get arrested and get 2 days taken of a 30 day sentence for time served but you still get 28 days in the can. Something like that. I think the NFL would want this entire thing to be in it's rear view mirror before they allow Brent to play again, if they do. They don't want this kind of pub IMO. If they let him play later, it's probably a one day story and then gone. JMO

Curious when Brent's time will all be served. Time served counts towards the 180, didn't it? He's been out of football for a long time, so that's another question, but I bet the league suspension is for no more than four weeks. That's just a guess.

You are disagreeing with what? My opinion or what the NFL will do? I never gave my opinion on the player so I don't think there is anything to agree or disagree about there. As far as the NFL is concerned, they don't care about that. They care about the brand and they will do what is best, in there eyes, to protect the shield and the money it brings in. They will not care, nor will they consider opinion on what may be considered right or wrong by some fans. Irrelevant is how they will view those kinds of things.

That would be my guess. Technically, it's already been served, but Goodell will do something like that.

I do not either. He was an "okay" player. But ever since he has been gone, the level of his play is being remembered as much better than it actually was.

He's better than OK. Guys playing 1-tech get little attention, other than Wilfork.

Precedent already set with other players who returned to the NFL.
Brent probably doesn't play this year but his agent has apparently already started discussing what steps need to be taken for him to do so.

Smartest move is a quiet rejoining of the team mid-season where he doesn't play but begins to practice and work out at the facilities then he is full go next off-season.

That's not true at all. Brent was playing at a very high level and was an extreme bargain as a cheap starting caliber NT.
