last year was a re-building year... just happened that Dak got injured and the FO got away with it... for anyone who thinks otherwise they are fooledI'm not one to pedantically keep receipts on precisely who are the hypocrites, but as one of the too-few last off-season who was skeptical of this idea so widely accepted here that the Cowboys have some magic touch when it comes to drafting and then inserting as starters their rookie linemen.
Here just to say... you were wrong... a whole friggin bunch of you reading this right now were ice cold wrong.
I tend to agree with the OP as a consequence, at least for all those whining we should've signed experienced successful running backs and wideouts.
If you don't have the O-line--and especially don't have a center and a left tackle--that are going to perform as stand outs, then that on its own neutralizes to a huge degree any success you can hope to see from the skill positions.
And worse... if there is such a thing... on the other side of the ball, of course, you lost your first one, two, three, four edges. That's just incredible and absurd. That rarely if ever has happened to a team.
It's a tried-and-truism... you have to have the trenches well taken care-of before you can have any serious ambition in the NFL to have any degree of success.
Henry is on a 2YR/16M contract.I think Barkley / Henry alone would have gave the team 1-2 more wins, even with all the injuries
overtheCapYea ........ been hearing that since Carson Wentz ........ 3 superbowls later
the cap looks better In 2026.We won’t ever know since he didn’t sign one…. What we do know is he doomed the Cowboys for the next four years by signing Dak.
Jerry has no real plan on making the team better. No direction, like a rudderless ship.
there wasn't a single FA signing that would have made a difference. but we needed several. there was definite gaps on the team that could have been closed. The Eagles core group was stronger than the Cowboys. No offseason signing would've put a dent in that gap. Fact is, the Eagles have been the best team in football for two and a half years. Should've won the SB two years ago--had a 10-1 record to start last season(2023)--this year they blew the doors off down the stretch. Over the past few years the Eagles have beaten the Chiefs twice -- the Bills --- Ravens -- Bengals -- the best the AFC has to offer.
The Eagles didn't win because of offseason signings. The offseason signings only strengthen what was already a championship core. Then add in their most important addition to the team in 2024... the defensive coordinator (how did he make that lateral move?)
The time for JJ to be proactive in trying to strengthen a championship level core for the Cowboys was in 2021 and 2022
Cowboys signing FA in 2024, would've only reinforced Stephen Jones belief that you don't get your bang for your buck in FA
And I believe the Cowboys were more of a 9 or 10 win team in 2023. Fact is, the Cowboys had about 4 or 5 games that year that they couldn't lose even if they wanted too
The 35-10 loss to Buffalo and the beatdown at SF is who they really were. And then not being able to put away a weak Dolphin's team
Ironic thing is, the FA losses are actually doing more damage to the team than the lack of FA signings
Cowboys lost four starting offensive linemen since 2021?
Four wide receivers? Go look at the group from 2021 compared to this one
Two running backs?
How many defensive linemen? At least two this past offseason
Dak's most reliable target. Dalton
Cowboys have been hit as hard as they were in the 90s. I know some of these guys would have needed to be replaced anyway but even JJ biggest detractor has to admit in good faith that even the best GM would need a season or two to regroup. Right?
Getting to several SBs and wining a couple is worth it.overtheCap
it doesn’t end well.
Salary Cap.
something the Eagles fans will be crying about soon.
the Eagles use void contracts.
Given what he did in Baltimore and what Dowdle did when given a chance I too would have liked that.i'd love to have seen the difference made or not made by derrick henry on last season.
LOVE to have seen it.
Windows/curtains1. Personnel
2. Drafting
3. The salary cap
4. What it takes for super bowl contention.
5. What effect a good GM has on a team.
6. Coaching.
7. O and Dlines.
8. RBs.
9. Do you need any more?
So, a worse draft choice and still no playoffs? Good plan.I think Barkley / Henry alone would have gave the team 1-2 more wins, even with all the injuries
AGAIN ...... thats what I have been hearing is gonna happen to the eagles for 10 years now.overtheCap
it doesn’t end well.
