Just wanted to let you know that you're saving me a lot of typing today, because you're saying exactly how i feel on this subject.

I would think it is common sense. I get that some players have problems and addictions but Dallas has to determine are they in the business of Professional Football and out to compete for championships or are they in the business to rehab players who have no control?

I'm glad to see Gregory check into rehab but Cowboys can't just continue to save a spot on the team for a player who is not going to be playing. Their has to be a cutoff point where the player either gets his life in order or the team must part ways so that the position can be addressed with someone who the team can depend on. Nothing you can do about injuries but there is something that can be done with life choices when they become a negative for the team.

I was always taught. If you don't understand something. Don't judge it.

I understand this is a football team whose responsibility is to win football games it is not day care it is not drug rehab. If that is what people or fans want then great we can continue to wallow around complaining how this team can't win. I don't dislike Gregory or Lawrence, hell I don't dislike McClain but I hate the fact their action cost this team. You can't just replace guys with people off the streets the Cowboys put their trust into these guys and they have betrayed that trust. Now this team is in a situation where you are searching for solutions. I don't judge them as people I do judge them as players on this team who have done a great disservice to their teammates and to the fans.

That's a valid point Dooms.

But keep in mind the Cowboys knew exactly what they were getting in Gregory and to a lesser extent Ro McLain... Both of these guys had "baggage" when Dallas brought them on board.

I don't like what damage they've done to the team either but if you're going to play with matches, expect to get burned once in a while.

They should have added a rehab center at The Star.

Yes they did and they gave them a chance to redeem themselves an opportunity of a life time. I have no issue giving people the 2nd chance and an opportunity to get their lives in order but when you do that you expect effort on their part you expect that if they need help they will get it and yes the NFL offers help as do the teams.

I hope the best for Gregory that he can get help in rehab and take a god given talent to make a living for himself and benefit this team if not and it continues then Dallas must do what is best for the team. Why should other players who put in the time the effort have their opportunity for success be altered because of a couple of idiots?

I do hate the fact that some here feel that the Cowboys somehow owe these players when the Cowboys already gave them an opportunity of a life time and that somehow it is Jerry or Jason or Calvin Hills fault? It is not the fault of these men it is the fault of the person who blows the chance they were given.

My two cents...Gregory has MILLIONS to lose by his behavior. If he had any control over his impulsive behavior, surely he would exercise it. I'm not giving him a pass, but it is clear that he has both a love of the game...and a massive addiction. I would, of course, prefer we not draft or otherwise bring in people with these issues, but once they're on the team, we have an obligation (as caring humans, if nothing else) to help them any way we can. I'm glad he's with a team like ours (yes, I claim part ownership) that has great resources in place and the compassion to try to help.

Here's hoping he can turn it around. If not for the Cowboys sake, for his own.

Fair points. I'm frustrated by both players for different reasons but am in a mode to throw both in the same pot and I shouldn't. Gregory deserves to be treated as someone with addiction. I'm not sure we really are that good a place for those players but I don't really have insight into what we do for them. I am colored by my disappointment in the team and have a short fuse with them these days. Hoping the season brings me optimism.

Yeah, a big methadone dispenser with a blue star on it.

They can put it next to Jerry's water cooler filled with Johnny Walker.

Gregory has a mental illness. So I'm sorry. I agree with your points but the fact he has mental issues (same as Charles Haley) I think he deserves a little bit of slack. McClain on the other hand. It's not even about the drugs. It's about his attitude overall. Doesn't care about football. Gregory loves football. In regards to Lawrence he kinda got screwed if you think about it. Bell got his suspension reduced for missing a test. Lawrence was taking medication for his back surgery. Just a weird situation.

Then I guess we learned not to draft guys with mental illnesses....UDFA or sign for the minimum thats it

Thank you for at least supporting the rehab stint. The stigma on addiction around here is absolutely atrocious.

that's fair -- but keep in mind that supporting treatment for addicts is one thing, and accepting addicts taking up roster spots on your team is another.

We all make choices in life and Ro made his of what is important and what is not. As for Gregory I think he is down to his last chance the ball is in his court of what he wants in his life.
I have done a complete 180 on Ro. I initally dispised him for making a mockery out of his God given football abilities. Now: He did make his choice and however he wants to live his life, he can have the freedom to do so. Football loves him and he tried to like football back but has another agenda whether it's drugs, his family or fishing . He likes another lifestyle and that's his prerogative. Some players play it out in the NFL long term and literally take their lives at the end with all kinds of mental and physical issues.

I'm just hoping this is the last RoMc thread.

So ready to move on.

Exactly, the guy's got no desire and wouldn't ever attain his potential since he's patently self-centered and too good for practice...

That sounds like an idea. To rehab Gregory Jerry should lighten the mood by having him sit in front of a TV, smoke a few joints and let him watch a few episodes of the only cartoon character ever suspected of being a pothead, Slowpoke Rodriguez. Wish I could find the one where Slowpoke was suffering from Montezuma's revenge. He was sitting slumped with another mouse and said in a slow, sluggish Spanish accent "Jose', I no feel so well I shouldn't have drank the water it's given me a bad case of the sheeeeeets."
