No sacks

Sacks don't mean everything. I actually thought the Cowboys defense did a great job getting pressure on Stafford on the way to a 27-3 lead. Victor Butler had his best game of the season, he was causing havoc out there including drawing a holding flag and forcing Stafford to scramble and throw the ball away.

The defense did the best they could despite getting put into bad positions by the offense's turnovers and the momentum they were giving away to Detroit. In the 4th quarter, they got Detroit to punt but the Cowboys offense responded with a 3 and out. Then they bended but didn't break by holding Detroit to a long FG. 30-27 and 4 minutes left, plenty of time for the Cowboys offense to run some time off the clock and seal the deal right? Nope, Romo throws another interception.

I know sacks dont mean everything, but if someone is playing like a monster I would expect they would have more to show than just 2 tackles.

And you would frequently be wrong.

Man I wish we had Clay Matthews, I was watching the Green Bay vs. Denver game and it was like 100-7 and Matthews was just freaking unblockable.

Dude was playing like they were in OT or something, just amazing. Denver was trying to double team him and chip him with a back and with 3 guys trying to block him he just blew that $%#@ up!!!!!

I love Demarcus Ware, but he cant hold Matthews jock.

Edit........Dude looks like he is all roided up also, not saying he is juicing, just looks too ripped and just moving faster than everybody else.

The ONE word that I wish would disappear from the language forever....DUDE!!

What are you talking about? We had a strip-sack to preserve the win last week, we had a huge interception (nearly a pick-6) against the Jets to go up by two TDs, we've blocked a field goal. We've had plenty of big plays, both good and bad. We've won as a team and been beaten as a team. This idea that it's all on one player either way is absurd.

So just because the defense had a strip-sack to preserve the win last week, they get absolved from doing it again this week?

This is a team game, which means that offense, defense and special teams need to play their parts.

The defense played very well for most of the game just like Romo but didn’t do it when we needed it most.

It Romo it to be castigated for not playing for the full 60 mins (and rightly so) then you can’t excuse the defense for doing something similar.

. We have no Ed Reed on this team.

31 other teams are in the same boat. In fact we've never had a Ed Reed type safety here in Dallas.

lol.

Oh brother.

One thing I noticed was that several times Demarcus and Spencer would get to Stafford or within inches but they would just slide on the turf. It happened numerous times. Their feet would just give and they would fall when turning the edge or cutting back about to get a shot on Stafford.

That stat amazed me. Detroit does not exactly have a top line; Backus sucked up to this game. yet we got no sacks. Just another bizarre stat for a very strange game.

Yep. I agree. I even posted that I thought it was the most amazing stat of the game in my thoughts on the game.

This is exactly what I was getting at. Sure they blocked a kick and had a strip sack last week, but how about a momentum changing sack, interception or just any play to help preserve the win. It seems to me that if Romo makes a mistakes, it absolves the defense from getting it back.

The defense should be doing that every game, there is nothing that says that they can't win the game for the team every once in a while.

Huh? The OP said that the Cowboys' defense never steps up and makes big plays, and so it's always all on Romo. It was an absurd statement. The defense has made many huge plays this season, plays which were integral to winning or putting us in a position to win. Even in this game, we had a big INT from Sensy that helped build a 24-point lead.

Oh, and yes, the defense is "absolved" from getting a game-ending strip-sack this week - that kind of play is not going to happen every week, for any team.

I'd say the defense won the game just a week ago against the Skins.

The Defense held this team to 63 yards rushing and 240 passing. 21 points are directly attributable to turnovers. I don't know what you want? I'll take that kind of defensive production every game.

The reason we lost is not on the defense. It's on turnovers. Romo said this himself. It's not the D guys.

But but but we never get game changing plays and just have meaningless sacks!

He had no sacks, and only 2 tackles that game.
Through 4 games he has only 1 sack and Ware has 5

Don't make his head hurt with facts. He loves his roided up Matthews. Must be the hair.

Gotta agree with ABQ here, this game cannot be blamed on the defense. Romo's turnovers at crucial moments were huge and it costs us the game.
