Rumors popped up after the Cowboys changed the title of former Dolphin quarterback coach Jason Garrett from interim to permanent head coach last week that Garrett might pursue Dolphins’ defensive coordinator Mike Nolan as his own DC. Insider Michael Lombardi only fueled those rumors when he wrote earlier this week on NFL.com that while Garrett would love to get Nolan, he’d probably wind up hiring Dolphins assistant head coach Todd Bowles for the job.

Neither now appear to be in the mix (a Dolphin spokesman reiterated that Nolan is under contract for next year), but another name Dolphin fans know only too well — Paul Pasqualoni — is.
As for Bowles, while he did interview for the Cowboys’ head coaching job last week, he’s not a candidate for the DC job, as Garrett has made it clear he wants someone with experience in that position. Bowles, another former Cowboys’ assistant, has spent all 11 of his NFL seasons as a secondary coach.

If Pasquaolini is the coach we're pretty much done for.

He's more of the Bill PArcells style of defense and we just can't play Zone. Our DB's dont understand that concept at all.

Newman goes from a really good corner to below average the more he plays in zone as well.

I think they are guessing since Paul P has not been let go at this time

There's no possible way that I can support Paul P being the DC. No way. Absolutely not.

Garrett must ******** if he's even thinking about it.

That would be a career decision on the part of Garrett...

One of the writers a month or so ago said that if Garrett becomes HC... PP will be his DC... :(

Its a Miami blog.. so take it with a grain of salt.

It is hilarious and enraging though how reporters in Miami seem to have more info about what's going on than the reporters in Dallas.

I dont think he's getting it, but if as a last resort he does I think he might fare a little better than people think.

I dont think anyone would ever confuse him with being great or a game changer, but with a full offseason to make scheme and personnel adjustments, he would almost assuredly improve on what he did in 8 games with Wade's playbook and players, some of whom clearly need to be upgraded.

I definitely dont think our season is ruined if he's the DC. Just means the offense has to be really good. And it definitely can be really good.

Not necessarily. If he cant get someone he views as a clear upgrade, he might be the DC for this yr and then replaced.

Well he is comfortable with Paul P and thats the problem.

Im not a big fan of getting Rob Ryan but if you're choice is PP over Ryan than you're just making that decision based on your comfortability and not what is best for the Dallas Cowboys.

Well I think no matter what we do, we'll be relying on the offense next year anyways. Just too many holes on Defense to fix in one offseason.

I dont get the bolded statement, how do you know this? He didnt hire PP, he only picked him for DC for his 8 games as Interim HC because there was nobody else available that could do it. Campo certainly wasnt going to be DC, he had no exp running this scheme.

What happened to the gang of "JG is putting his stamp on this team.." guys?

I thought we're supposed to accept every move that JG makes and be happy about it. If we keep Pauly P over Ryan or Fangio, we need to be happy about that right?

If he's our DC than I think we'll be a 9-7 team.

I would also draft offensive heavy and just try to outscore everyone because PP won't make it past a year here and his input on players is basically meaningless imo.

It may force us into signing Asomugha since all our DB's are so terrible in zone.

I think you bring in a playmaking FS and a solid NT.. and this defense gets alot better real quick.

It can be fixed, remember this defense was really good in 2009 and for about half of 2008.

We have some issues at FS, SS, maybe one OLB spot and DE. One of the ILB is going to be upgraded substantially with an in house guy. The OLB could be upgraded via the draft, perhaps a backup (Butler) or maybe the new coach gets Spencer to revert to 2009 form. Even DE could be slved in house, if Josh Brent could play NT fulltime and maybe Ratliff goes to DE.

Pasq is the choice only if we can't get someone better.

The whole "experience at the position" thing doesn't really ring true. Fangio and Manusky are the only guys with experience that we've interviewed. Playoff teams aren't likely to let their DCs get away and I don't think there are any position coaches on those teams who meet the "experience" criteria.

Coach P is not going to be the DC next year. Garrett is not that dumb.

Well, at the least the gang of "overreactions and kneejerk reactions to small Florida blog articles" is still alive and well!

Do we have a more credible source? Jess.

Im assuming that is the case if he names him DC.

Whipple gets close look as next UConn coach

By Mark Blaudschun
Globe Staff / January 12, 2011

Former University of Massachusetts football coach Mark Whipple is under consideration to become the University of Connecticut’s next coach.

Whipple was on the original list of candidates that UConn athletic director Jeff Hathaway compiled when Randy Edsall left for Maryland following the Huskies’ loss to Oklahoma in the Fiesta Bowl Jan. 1.

According to a Big East official, Hathaway pared his final list to Whipple and former Syracuse coach Paul Pasqualoni, whose last stint was interim defensive coordinator for the Dallas Cowboys.
