I have no problem with not signing high dollar free agents. But when you stand pat and do little or nothing but then all of a sudden sign B free agents as supporting cast then you better be spot on with those selections. I want to know the opinions on the Zone what you think about standing pat on the Big Splashy signings this year. Do you agree with this strategy or not?

What splashy player did we stand pat on that you wanted?
And for how much?

Long was coming to visit and called it off after meeting with the Pats. No chance to even make a counter offer.
It sounds like we have interest in Forte and Miller, but probably not at the prices they got.

it's kinda amazing really. every FA period people have expectations that they temper with whatever reality they hold but what happens is usually

1) FA a week away
2) the cowboys publish they will not be active in the FA market or looking to spend big $$$ on what will be available
3) fans say "smoke man!!! they're throwing people off!"
4) players who happen to be blessed with a name known to these players are signed NOT by the cowboys.
5) lower tier players we DID NOT sign suddenly become the missing cog we missed out on
6) after a week, it's over and we missed out on everyone and the front office sucks
7) being reminded that the cowboys are doing what they said they would do and not what you thought they'd do is turned into a conspiracy or stupidity by the management
8) 5,319 posts will be made in a week saying how stupid our ownership is cause they didn't sign anyone they liked, even though they said going in they wouldn't.

So, the Cowboys get slammed by fans when they throw money around with big, long term contracts and get in a bind with the salary cap, and they get slammed by fans when are more patient and particular with how they spend their money and avoid getting in a bind with the salary cap. It's the way of the world.

by now you should realize ESPN, as well as any media outlet, sucks if they don't trash the cowboys. but when they do, the same outlet is now used as proof of suckage.

^ I find that happens way more here for the other side.

Apologists swear the media sucks unless they are saying supportive things about the Cowboys. Then it's PROOF!

This may shock you but there's an in-between in those approaches.

Should have signed Mario and we would have been so desperate now. This leave us A)having to resign Hardy, or B) having to draft Bosa. To have the 4th pick and having to pick him is a huge screw up!!! If he's the pick, and we like him that's fine, but to HAVE to pick him now?

Or maybe they want to sign Bosa and rotate him along the dline with Gregory and Lawrence
I don't know their plan but I suspect they have one. Just hope it's better than last years backup QB plan

Well, then that's the FO's fault. If Wentz is really rated that much higher, they should just take Wentz & later try to figure out what to do about DE.

I still think they will take Wentz if he is there. But I don't think he will be there and I think they will very likely go Bosa who may not be elite but may be better than what we could have gotten in free agency
