Norm Hitzges tears Jason Garrett a new one

That was over 50 years ago, I don't see what Tom Landry has to do with Jason Garrett.

Bringing up Landry is like bringing up Babe Ruth to every chubby kid that wants to play baseball. Unnecessary.

Put in the work, and anyone has the chance to become a good player, but is he going to be Babe Ruth? Highly unlikely.

*If you're counting 7 for Garrett, then add a year to everyone elses as well, I just didn't add that final year. 2005 - 2011, I counted as 6 years. 1 year here or there doesn't really have much to do with my statement though.
Garrett also has 16 years of playing experience where he was often treated like a coach.

I know that will be ignored though. Most salient things are.

I agree, the "experience" isn't the issue. He isn't "over his head" for that reason at all.

I'm not sure why you enjoy playing this game where you pretend everyone is out to get you, or simply refuses to be as enlightened of a fan as you are. I'm well aware of the role Garrett took on later in his playing career, and I am also well aware they are quite different from the role and responsibilities of a true offensive coordinator.

If you know otherwise, then I'd love to know what the offensive coordinators/play callers of those teams were doing while Garret, the (admittedly) smart backup QB, was doing their jobs.

Thus far you've brought up Tom Landry, Don Shula, Mike McCarthy and Sean Payton in defense of Garrett. Yet, are unwilling to admit there may be any truth to the idea that Garrett has some ways to go and has made some mistakes along the way?

I'm not sure why you like playing the Garrett is not qualified game. So we're even.

Oh, and Ozzie Newsome agrees with me. He wanted Garrett, lest you forget.

Anyone attempting to mention Garrett in the same breath has these four coaches deserves no attention.

You can bring up Garrett in relation to McCarthy and Peyton pretty easily, they are his peers afterall.

There is a difference between Historical perspective and comparisons. It is a shame that some can't see that.

Garrett is like a pee wee coach in comparison to McCarty and Peyton. I've seen enough Green Bay and NO games to know that those guys can at least manage a game and situations quite well. Garrett has messed up over and over again this season in the most unique ways. It's an insult to McCarthy and Peyton really to equate them with Garrett.

I don't know why Hos wastes his time with you guys. And I mean that. You have your views.... fine. You think Garrett is a buffoon, WAY in over his head, not worthy to be an NFL head coach, just a stupid blooming idiot most of the time... do I have it right?

Now, despite all the people on ESPN, including former coaches, who have bashed him over this past Sunday.... go try and sell your story.

And you know what? They aren't buying.

Almost to a man, the same guys bashing him will include "but he's a good football coach", or something along those lines.

The only thing that happened Sunday, besides us losing a game, and a coach's mistake, is all the little cry babies on this forum get to jump up and down with glee for a week.

Hope you enjoy it because he is going to shut your trap come Sunday.

And when he does don't come crawling in here like you believed in our ability to win it either. You don't.

Shall we go back and take a look at McCarthy's record his first season as head coach?

Or how about when he lead an NFC championship game team to a 6-10 record the next season?

Hell, that guy wouldn't have made it out of year one without being crucified if he were coaching here. Some of ya'll really need to settle down a bit. Again, if im defending Garrett, you know some of you need to pull it back.

You are being entirely too dramatic. I have a friend who is a die hard Saints fan, and trust me, they've have plenty of qualms with the way he handles certain situations.

I remember maybe last year, they were in a crucial 3rd and 1 situation and what did Payton do? He called a double reverse that got blown up, fans weren't too happy with that one. That's with a championship winning QB leading the team. This year, there was a 4th and short on the goal line, instead of letting Brees makes the play, he elected to try and run it up the middle with one of their 15th RB's, the run was stuffed. They didn't care for that outcome much either.

My point isn't that Garrett is so outclassed that he's doomed to failure, my point is that the only thing he's lacking is experience. How do you get it? By playing and coaching the games. If you think he's mismanaged so much of the team, what is your solution? To fire him? It's not going to happen. Any other options? An OC? Well he doesn't want one, so that ain't happening either.

Do you have a third option? Perhaps the third option is just to complain about him all the time and call him a chump. What does that accomplish? Not a damn thing.

Oh I'm sorry, did I say he was unqualified? I could have sworn I said he was lacking experience. I guess to you, that's the same thing. You can't even find it within yourself to admit he's made mistakes, and you wonder why these guys always argue with you.

Man, I really hate statements like this.

That was the exact sentiment before the AZ game.

Nah, its a mob. Only a mob could be this crazy after we win 4 of 5 and go from 3-4 to first place in the NFC East.

I think I got it right.

Nah you're wrong. This is a very talented team that's had some recent success after a long string of mediocrity. Clock managment is a prerequisite for coaching success. Garrett's clock execution of this important coaching skill was sorely lacking against the Cardinals. If you love the team there's nothing wrong with wanting the best and stating that you want to see better from the head coach. It certainly doesn't make you part of a mob mentality.

You would think that with all that experience that he would know how to use timeouts and manage in game decisions a litte better than what he does.

Norm hit it out of the park, the whole game was just one bizzare coaching error after another. Like calling timeout to get the ball back before the half ends on 2nd down but letting all the time run off the clock after Arizona failed to convert on 3rd down.

Things like this are just head scratchers, its like Garrett has no plan or idea of what he wants to do and is just winging it.

I wouldn't worry too much about it Hos. If we win this Sunday night then all the lemmings will be talking about the Superbowl again and this will be forgotten. In spite of the mistakes last Sunday, Garret has done a bang up job turning this team around. No they're not perfect and I wouldn't put anybody in Canton just yet, but considering where we were last year this time, we have come a long way. We are legit contenders if we don't shoot our own feet off with mistakes.

Not being over dramatic at all. The man is a hypocrite for starters. He preaches accountability and would not even admit to mistakes himself. Even beyond the whole field goal situation, there's really no rationalization for not calling a timeout after Dez's catch with 26 seconds left. Beyond that, the man has overlooked two of the greatest collapses in this franchises 50+ year history, over the course of half of ONE season. If this team were just awful and like 3 years away from being a contender, then it's fine. But Parcells left us in a great position to contend for a bit, and we've thrown it away on this Wade Phillips/Garrett regime.

We all have seen the greatest of coaches get second-guessed after a crucial 3rd or 4th and short ends up not working out. I'm fine with that. Garrett's problems are much much more deep-rooted than that. He's been here 5 years now. It's not an experience issue. That's a copout excuse. We're still having the same penalties and sloppiness that we did under Wade. Garrett doesn't seem to be stacking days on top of one another like he's saying. Of course I suggest that he be fired. He is the certain cause of 2 losses thus far this year, and nobody here can honestly attribute any wins to his coaching acumen. He has actually been out-coached numerous times this year. Never should have been promoted in the first place and now we're seeing the ramifications. What's the worst that could happen if he's fired today? We'd lose a game due to poor coaching decisions? OH...just did that. People are looking to the future and hoping for another Landry, when we might be able to develop Garrett into another Rich Kotite...at best.

this is the most underrated error from the game. norm is the only one i've heard call him out for it. it's not the first time he's had questionable strategy handling the final 2-3 minutes of the first half.

Yup add that one to the list also. In a sport where every regular season game counts, Garrett straight up failed us.

He had a first year starter at qb his first year, that might have something to do with it.

7 years.

Tom Landry had been coaching only 6 years when he assumed not only the HC duties but also OC and DC duties. Don Shula had only been coaching 3 years when he was a Head Coach and called the Defensive plays.

It's a different game now Hos, remember qbs also called their own plays back then to.
