Summarization:
The bottom line is at Roy's salary numbers, the year and a half experiment has failed, The money can be better allocated elsewhere. He believes the Cowboys should cut him. He is not worth the $3.5 million for a #3 WR Position. He has already given up money and draft picks. Don't continue to pour more money on this issue for the lack of productivity.

He is taking calls on it now.

Sounds like Norm got to the studio this morning and had no idea what he was going to talk about.

RW11 is always a sparkplug.

Cap is not an issue this year and I think it would be in Dallas best interest to give this trade every oppertunity they can to make it work. Easy to throw your hands up and walk away but I don't think it is in the teams best interest. I do think this is a make or break season for Williams

Glad I missed it. Was he on one of his soap box rants?
Usually I listen to him, but sometimes he he way off base.

Stupid stance. Why cut him for salary during an uncapped year?

Cut him if he's not one of the best 5 receivers going into the season.

Slow news day. Needed ratings.

Norm doesn't need ratings. Cowboys are top of mind in this market year-round, and this is 1 of the hot topics regarding the Cowboys' off-season.

Good attempt at cynicism though.

I am sorry but as disappointed as I have been in Roy's play.

I do not cut a guy who had a bad year and still caught 7 TD's.

It too soon.

Of course he does. That's his business. His sole job is to obtain higher ratings.

Sitting around discussing comments by the recently signed kicker doesn't keep people tuned in.

If he has a bad training camp I say get security and use his head to open the front doors to Valley Ranch.

Due to what they gave up for him in picks and money I'd be rather surprised if he doesn't get at least the 2010 campaign to make it worth it.

Hopefully Garrett will use this offseason to install some new routes worthy of a number two receiver with his skill set.

I've been as disappointed with the Roy trade as anyone, but if I understand correctly Roy is guaranteed a roster bonus (or some other name for it) of $9,000,000 to $9,500,000 (depending upon who you listen to).

It is my understanding that this is unavoidable and must be paid regardless of whether he's cut, etc.

Hopefully a salary cap expert can clarify this, but I thought I also read the salary cap hit for 2010 for Roy is just a little bit above the bonus, say $500,000.

If true, cutting him costs $9,500,000

Keeping him costs $10,000,000

The difference of $500,000 isn't enough to justify cutting Roy for salary cap reason, especially in a year that doesn't appear to have a cap.

If the people that truly know talent (the scouts and key coaches) know Roy doesn't have what it takes to play in this league anymore, then I think he should be cut immediately.

As far as I can tell, the roster spot is more valuable than the salary cap effect

Good analysis. At best we can add a rookie WR for 500k. I'm pretty confident that we'll get more from RW11 than we would from some rookie free agent, even if it's someone like the Great Danny Amendolaz.
