They were no better than 3rd stringers in reality, as evidenced by the fact neither is gainly employed by an NFL Franchise.

Drew Henson, as much as it hurts some people's feelings, has promise.

Drew Henson has more promise and potential than any QB coming out of high school since John Elway.

At some point he needs to produce, thats fair enough.

Hutchinson is out of football on talent, lack of
Carter is out of football due to substance abuse issues

Back to thread topic on Henson- Its his time to step up now and fulfill all that promise.

Well here is something I found while trying to find something, Hos, regarding your comments about what Brady said about Henson.

Brady's sold on Henson
QB reviews former teammate

Houston - Drew Henson's anticipated return to football this year should be a smashing success.

So says New England's Tom Brady, the quarterback who kept Henson on the bench for most of the 1998 and '99 seasons at the University of Michigan.

"I would say highly, highly, highly probable he can do that," Brady said Thursday when he was asked if Henson would have a strong National Football League career.

"He's a guy who has tremendous talent. He's 6-4, probably 230. He's got quick feet. Strong legs. Can run well. Smart. Tough.

"I think he's had some adversity. He's mentally tough. He's disciplined. I think he enjoys football. He's got leadership skills. He's going to be a great, great player."

Henson, who turns 24 next month, started for Michigan in 2000 before forsaking his final two seasons of eligibility in order to sign a blockbuster baseball contract with the New York Yankees. But after Henson neither hit nor fielded well enough in Class AA and AAA, he appears ready to change sports and the Yankees won't stop him.

As one of many NFL teams looking for a quarterback, the Green Bay Packers undoubtedly would like to attend one of Henson's expected workouts next month. Based on not having seen him play or throw for three years, the Packers had regarded Henson as a second-round draft choice.

The Houston Texans selected Henson in the sixth round last April and own his rights until the start of the draft April 24 and 25. The Texans will try to trade him to the team that offers them the best compensation.

Green Bay, which owns the 25th pick in the first round, might appeal to Henson because of Brett Favre's uncertain future.

Henson has been working out for football since November at an IMG sports facility in Florida. His agent, Tom Condon, asked longtime NFL quarterbacks coach and offensive assistant Larry Kennan to tutor Henson.

"This is a talented quarterback with a great arm," Kennan told the Houston Chronicle Wednesday. "He's got better touch than I thought he would. He's also a very bright guy who spends three or four hours a night studying film.

"There's no question in my mind that people are going to fall in love with him when they see him in person. There's also no doubt in my mind that he'll be the first or second pick in the draft, and I don't care who the competition is."

In order to leave the Yankees, Henson will have to reach a settlement on the $12 million in guaranteed money remaining on his contract.

How long would it take Henson to compete for a starting job in the NFL?

"He's a natural athlete and a natural passer," Brady said. "He's played a lot of football, so it's not like he's learning the game again. He'd just have to knock off the rust. I don't know how long it would take but he's got what it takes to be successful."

In college, Henson completed 61.6% of his passes for 2,146 yards, 18 touchdowns and four interceptions.

Was OC/QB coach under Parcells at New England after Palmer. So, he coached Bledsoe.

He worked at Tom Condon's IMG where he helped Drew Henson prepare for his NFL showcase 2 years ago. Might be the ultimate reason he ended up getting drafted by Houston to begin with. If I remember correctly, Dallas was interested in drafting him also, but Houston beat them to it.

I guess Bill might have known a little about the player. You think?;)

Larry Kennan is the correct spelling - why all the googles were fruitless Hos - LOL, I did the same!

Still waiting on 31willhammer to connect Kennan to Parcells. I think there is no connection -

There's great offensive talent on this team. Drew Bledsoe. Curtis Martin. Ben Coates. Terry Glenn. Shawn Jefferson. Bruce Armstrong.
And Pete Carroll is a defensive coach.
So was Parcells, smart guy.
Parcells had smart guys working for him. Poke fun, if you want, at Ray Perkins, but the guy was head coach of two NFL teams -- the New York Giants and Tampa Bay Buccaneers -- and succeeded Bear Bryant as coach at Alabama. More importantly, Parcells had Chris Palmer as quarterbacks coach. Palmer had a great relationship with Bledsoe. Palmer would have liked to stay in New England, but Tom Coughlin offered him the job of offensive coordinator in Jacksonville while Carroll was still deciding what he wanted to do about his coaching staff.
It's not as if Carroll brought in a bunch of stiffs. Look at the guys he hired. Larry Kennan and Carl Smith have been around the NFL a long time.
I'll say Kennan's been around. The Patriots are his fourth team in four years. He's gone from being offensive coordinator of the Seahawks in '94, to tight ends coach for the Saints in '95, to offensive coordinator for the Raiders in '96. Now he's come to New England as offensive coordinator.

I certainly never saw it. He threw an OK deep ball and avoided the rush well. He didn't have the basic skills (mainly accuracy) to be a good QB in the NFL.

He might land back on his feet in the CFL or something.

Never understood why people were so fascinated by him.

The poster said - Carter had no talent. I'm not saying he was a great NFL Starter, but he had talent. When Chad went down in 2004 for Jets he stepped in and won football games....90 QB rating.

Did he squander that talent? Yes.

He had enough talent to get to the NFL. Staying was another thing altogether...even without his other issues.

However, I was directly speaking on why so many cheered for him. You just kinda wanted to. His entry into the league was panned by so many draftniks and fans, that you almost had to support him. And so no matter how many inaccurate throws you saw, ill-advised passes into double coverage, or whatever. You always thought he could play his way into being a better QB than he showed.

IMO, he was an average QB, similar to a ton already in the league. W/o his issues, I could see him bouncing around the league from team to team, with an occasional 2-3 yr run w/a team. WITH his issues, I see him remaining unemployed.

It doesn't hurt my feeling one bit.....but the guy has regressed evidently or just hasn't gotten better to the point that he's now behind Romo again....as much as that hurts some people's feelings, that's just the truth.

Jim, you've always maintained that you were on the fence with Q. Yet you haven't been the same with Henson. Or do you not see that?

I realize there are doubts about Henson. That's no big revelation. But for heaven's sake let's drop the wide eyed wonder about the interest in him. It just doesn't ring true. Like it or not this kid is one of the most hyped players we've acquired in the last decade. Excuse people for hoping he lives up to that hype.

Is that fair enough of me to ask?

It's ok to not be on the fence on a subject Hos. Its 2006and season # 3 into the Henson era.

Hype is a very, very fitting word. We are starting to reach the past tense on that. Its time for performance and results. Ryan Leaf and Peyton Manning were the most hyped QB's of their franchises past deacde.

Henson is in NFLe looking to rekindle his Football career. Stay tuned - NFL network will be covering all the games.

Henson is getting reps in a real game enviroment in NFLE, which is what he has needed and wanted for 2 years.

Henson asked to be there, he wasn't sent there. Not that it makes a difference since he wanted to go anyhow.

He's smart enough to know that the reps in practice and training camp were not enough, he needed...and wanted more.

Smart move for a young kid in a BP system with an entrenched QB.

Over the next few months he will get experience and exposer that he would not have gotten otherwise.

Romo should have gone too, but its a choice and he decided he didn't need or want to go.

Wish the best to both of them. I will say come June we'll know a lot more about Henson (good or bad) than we will about Romo.

I would have loved to see Romo playing this Spring also, because I've seen so little of his play over the last few years. The kid played extremely well in a lower compettition level of play in College and I haven't seen that play in college, wish I had some tape.

Obviously NFLE is below NFL in terms of talent, like Eastern Ill. is below Div 1 (Michigan) in college. So a real apples to apples comparision between the two could have been seen in NFLE.

If Henson does well in NFLE and it helps his career via valuable experience. You may see more high profile backup QB's head towards there for training in the future. Which I think is what the leauge intended.

So, I missed it by a year... But, the guy has coached both Bledsoe and Henson, hence a BP connection. I don't think it is a stretch to think BP knows the guy or even consulted with him. Either way, what does it really matter?

You have wanted Henson gone for a long time. Now you seem to be setting yourself up to like him, just in case he does good in Europe.

I want him to have success because it would be good for the Dallas Cowboys, not me.

I was off on the direct connection, forgive me.
