The Dolphins pretty much stuffed Murray today in the running game. Murray averaged 3.9 YPC, and the Dolphins were giving up 3.8 YPC on the year. Did you see the holes and daylight the offensive line was opening up during the final drive? Murray gave them credit. Murray had daylight on that last drive.
The Dolphins are giving up 3.7 YPC now and giving up 97.5 rushing yards per game. Murray didn't rush for Miami's average rushing yards allowed.
Murray did get his rushing total up to 87 yards on that last drive, and that was good.
Can your agenda be any less obvious? The Dolphins are a pretty good run defense, yet when we needed to run the clock out, here were the last couple of runs from Murray with 2:59 left in the game. It's 4th quarter, the game is on the line, and everybody is tired:
2nd and 4 - Murray up the middle for 6 yards (1st down - clock ticking)
1st and 10 - Murray left end for 9 yards (clock ticking)
2nd and 1 - Murray up the middle for 3 yards (another 1st down - clock ticking)
1st and 10 - Murray off right tackle for 4 yards (clock ticking)
2nd and 6 - Murray right end for 5 yards (clock ticking)
3rd and 1 - Romo positions himself for the game winner by our Pro Bowl Kicker
Murray had it going and could have easily converted another 1st down if we needed it. So by my math, with the game on the line, that's 5 carries for 27 yards. That's 5+ ypc right there. Murray is easily our best back. He even caught all 4 balls thrown his way to demonstrate the catching skills he came out of OU with.
If Felix could finish games the way Murray can, we win the opener against the Jets, the home game against the Lions, and we close out the game against the Pats - and keep the ball out of Tom Brady's hands in NE. I'd be willing to bet that we win all 3 of those games with Murray as our workhorse. Even in the Philly game, he gashed them for over 80 yards in less than 10 carries.
Bottom line: Murray is an every down back that has the power to run between the tackles, soft hands out of the backfield, and has the speed to take it to the house. I'm all for getting Felix back in the mix (when he is healthy), but not as the starter. That job is Murray's for the foreseeable future.
