The AP wire said they were moving forward with the investigation as reported in our newspaper.
An investigation isn't the same thing as charges. I'll be very surprised if an actual charge ever gets filed

He looked poised because he was playing with a top offensive line and the starting receivers.

His poise would be shaken behind what Showers played with.
Do you think we'll see Dak with the 2nd team in preseason?

Not sure at this point but remember a conviction is not necessary for violation of the Personal Conduct Policy.

I'm concerned with Cowboys current history with suspensions Goodell is looking for anything to hammer us again .

Of course you are forgetting a key part of this.

The NFL doesn't care if charges are filed. If there is an investigation by local authorities and it turns up a few inconsistencies but not enough to prosecute, the NFL could still look at it and have a different conclusion. Now sure, Elliott could fight it through the union and maybe win. But honestly, wouldn't you just want it to all go away now?

Note, I am not saying anything is going to come of this. I tend to think not, but if there really is going to be an investigation into the story, I simply don't trust the NFL to then look at the facts and do what's right.

It's not necessarily a strong point but simply expressing how much our front office likes Dak and Showers.

It's difficult to always recognize if they're simply trying to sell us. We saw how well Dak performed but Showers wasn't that impressive .

If Dak had performed like Showers we wouldn't be saying we are good to not pursue another backup QB at this time .

Your assessment of Showers and Dak lack's context. All things being equal, I'd still say Dak has the better showing, but with that said, Showers spent much of his time avoiding the pass rush. All said and done, I still put him on my practice squad, but I think he would have done much better playing with the first as opposed to being thrown in there with guy's who will be working at McDonalds in just under a month.

The strong point is the fact that Showers is Similar to Dak, in that they are both duel-threat QB's and therefore they both can run a similar style offense. That would be ideal in the world where Dak is the starter...but hopefully he won't be the starter for at least 2 more years. That would be best for both Romo and Dak.

I don't there's any question at all. With Romo's health questions, it's virtually mandatory to carry three. Showers won't get through waivers, and they don't want to lose him after being in the system for a year and progressing as a player.

What has Showers done or put on tape to get him put on an active roster?

They'll never get him through waivers.

You don't think? They did last year. What has changed from last year to this year that would make a team make room for him. In his first showing, a good portion of his throws were going at players feet. Granted, he was under duress, but so was Dak in many situations and he still hung in there to deliver a catchable ball. Again, I understand that Showers supporting cast was not on par with Dak's but still Showers accuracy left alot to be desired in his first showing...and I don't see it improving much unless the Cowboys allow him to take snaps with the first, which considering they may want to stash him again I doubt they give him the opportunity.

Their financial investment is Prescott. Showers isn't going to get a chance outside of the last preseason game. He will be the last QB that plays in week 2 and 3, with the worst supporting cast.

PS, I like Showers and think he is worth developing, but Prescott is the man of the future, at least for now.

He's come a long way since last year when he had nothing in preseason.

That's true, but if you replace him, you have to guarantee the full season's salary for that player for the entire season. Teams don't like to do that with fringe players. That will be a cheap rookie that gets that spot.

Hoping it will be Jenkins at this point.

Why is Butler considered a lock at WR, say over Whitehead?

Butler seems to be one of those guys whose bark is bigger than his bite.

It's Butler v Jones at this point, and unless Jones shows up in some games, he will have no problem being brought back to the PS.

He may have improved, which is what you want to see, but I still doubt he is the QB team's claim off waivers. I don't think the QB class on final cut's is going to be stellar, but I doubt Showers is the best of the bunch.

Jackson can cover kickoffs and punts, block on kickoffs and punts, etc.

Elliott and Morris protect Romo. Don't need a third guy. Who was the third guy last year?

Jackson is an emergency RB that plays lots of special teams.

Morris is not likely to be in on passing downs.

Agreed. But sometimes I see people talk about Butler like he's a lock.

Right now, I'd have him as the 5th WR, even behind Street, at this point. Whitehead is a mortal lock to make this team given his return skills and the fact they can use him on jet sweeps, etc.

Oh yeah, Lucky is a given. Street, Jones and Butler are the three fighting for one spot. I like Butler more than you do but wouldn't be adverse to Jones.

I had a typo in my post. I'd have Butler 6th.

I am pulling big time for Butler to step up and cement the #4 spot with Lucky at #5.

They're gonna keep Showers as the 3rd qb unless a Vet backup becomes available that Linehan has coached before like possibly Shaun Hill. With Romo's injury history and not being able to practice a full week anymore they almost have to carry 3 qb's for the rest of Romo's career. And I don't think they'll risk losing Showers trying to get him on the ps.

Personally, I just don't get the Butler hype. I get that he's tall and has good physical skills but he's largely shown very little to warrant the hype.

Right now, Whitehead is a stone cold lock over Butler IMO.
