I just enjoy laughing. The only comedian I can honestly say I never cared for was Andrew "Dice" Clay, and I have never felt the need to bash him for what he does or how he does it. To each his own, but I find this vitriol over a comic and some jokes to be pretty lame.

we cant have opinions?

Some of these guys are the biggest phonies and it is amusing seeing people eat it up. To me at least.

Just like brittany spears, jessica simpson etc....larry the cable guy and those types are just phonies.

I really dont care about mencia because he is just plain awful. I cant turn the channel fast enough.

Sorry for having an opinion.

What are your thoughts on his nemesis, Sam Kinnison?

Keep in mind that your response will most likely be observed, chopped to shreds and WILL be used against you.:p:
He cracks me up. I got to see him perform live in Vegas at the Improv and I laughed so hard my cheeks and jaws hurt.

I never said you couldn't have an opinion. I said I don't understand the vitriol. Maybe not yours, perhaps Rogans. It doesn't matter whose it is really. I want comics to entertain me, I could care less about this stuff. I really don't understand letting it get to me. Oh, and while getting all butt sore about expressing your opinion did you stop to consider that was all I did too? Of course not.

Mencia is a very good performer. He delivers "his" material very well.

But since his egregious stealing of other comics' material has come to light, it is absolutely impossible for me to watch him without wishing some serious ill-will upon him. No matter what you think of Joe Rogan as a comedian (personally, I am a big fan...not of his stand-up but for his great color commentary on the UFC), you have to respect the fact that he is standing up to someone that dwarfs him in the comedy world. Mencia's farce of a career needs to be derailed, and he needs to be made an example of in the industry. People who make their way in the world mooching off of others' hard work make me sick, and seeing Mencia fall flat on his face would certainly put a smile on my face.
Actually, I don't. If I had paid money to be at the Comedy Store that night to enjoy the comics what both of them did would have pissed me off and I would have wanted my money back. Him interrupting the act I paid to see is an intrusion on my enjoyment time. I don't respect it. Not even a little bit. There are better ways.

I didn't call the people lame, I called the vitriol over this lame. There's a huge difference.

I can certainly see where you are coming from.

In Rogan's defense, though, Mencia got up on stage and called Joe out. From what I know about Rogan, there was no way he was just going to sit there and not say anything.

Anyways, the biggest problem with people stealing material is that other comedians don't speak up about it. If everyone were like Rogan, this kind of thing wouldn't happen. But, when you see what has happened to Rogan since this thing started, you can see why others don't have the brass ones to stand up to stealing comedians (especially a popular one like Mencia). Since the incident, Rogan was banned from the Comedy Store and was dropped by his agent. Both because Mencia is a bigger draw (Rogan's ex-agent represents Mencia, too).

So, when I said you have to respect him for standing up to Mencia, I wasn't really saying that I agree with the time or place in which the conflict finally boiled over into the public eye. I just mean that it definitely takes some intestinal fortitude for someone like Joe Rogan to take on a comic that has his own (crappy) TV show, has had multiple HBO specials, is in commercials, etc.

It's interesting to me that Rogan is to be respected for standing up for this principle, yet you just said Mencia went there to confront him and standing up for himself isn't respected.

As I said, I don't respect what either of them did. I didn't single out Rogan. I would consider that an intrusion. Rogan using this crusade is no different than Mencia using other's jokes. He's doing it for the attention.

Understand something, I dabbled in stand up for awhile and had some fun, made a little money. I even performed in Vegas for an amateur night. There is a routine that is mine and I saw a professional comedian use that routine on Comedy Central's old show "Evening at the Improv." He isn't well known and he didn't do it exactly as I do it. I got laughs form it. He got polite applause. Same as Mencia. His routines are not exact take offs.

Now, should I be making a scene about this? I don't think so. In my opinion it is entirely possible that someone else finds something funny and pokes fun at it. Is Mencia's appeal these particular jokes that seem to be upsetting a few people? No. If anything they are throw in stuff. I don't see the big deal.

As I said earlier, there are comedians I don't care for. It would be a waste of my time to get upset that someone else might like them.

I didn't say anything about not respecting Mencia for confronting Rogan. I don't respect him because he steals. That's it.

And honestly, I don't think Rogan is doing it for the attention. I know quite a bit about him, and it just doesn't seem like something he would do. He's doing OK for himself nowadays, and doesn't need to pull some stunt for his career's sake. Plus, the guy had to have some idea that there may be some negative repercussions for the conflict...and there certainly has been (as described in my previous post).

Like I said, it's comedy. The vitriol over it amazes me.

I usually have the Comedy channel on from 7-9pm....2 episodes of Scrubs, the Daily Show, and The Colbert Report.

I've tried watching Mencia.....just not for me I guess.

I'll tell you the funniest thing I ever have ever seen was one hour of pure, unadulterated, Rodney Dangerfield. I was crying my eyes out.

Rodney..."My Dad had one game he would play with me as a kid....hide and go ****yourself.":laugh2:

I also hit a trifecta about 3 years ago at a show that featured Mitch Hedburg leading off, followed by Dave Attel and capping the night with Lewis Black. An entertaining evening as any.

Having an opinion is one thing, but when your opinion classifies someone as "stereotypical" because they think differently than you, it's the definition of bigotry.

There's a lot of things I'm not a "fan" of, or simply dislike, but if your choice is to embrace said things, I will defend to the end your right to do so, and dang sure not imply that your ignorant or more disturbing yet, "be hung", because you do enjoy these things.

Here's an idea kiddies, you "can't stand" something, especially something as inconsequential as entertainment, IGNORE IT, problem solved!

If I owned that place, i would have banned him from there back when I saw him there. Rogan just seemed to have a sense of entitlement and free reign to rip on anyone/thing when I saw him. I for one am glad they stood up to him. Haven't heard of that happening to "celebrities" very often. Maybe he'll learn something from it.

Sorry you had a bad experience there. I've never really seen any Rogan stand-up, so I can't comment on it.

Anyways, as far as I know, Mencia basically gave the Comedy Store a "him or me" ultimatum, and they made the smart business decision because Mencia is obviously the bigger draw.
