Jihad Ward continues to be difficult for Connor Williams to have to deal with. Williams has issues when he misses with his hands, and this causes him to have to lean on Ward in order to slow down his charge. The great equalizer for Williams is that he’s such an athlete that if he gets overextended, he can still recover and not many linemen can do th

I'm sorry, but I'm missing the point you're trying to make?

Watched Ambar and Broaddus on Periscope:
  • Broaddus says his biggest standout from all of OTAs has been Jihad Ward. Says that trade may prove valuable. Says he’s given even Travis Frederick problems when he lines up 1T.

He should in these workouts because Ward has quickness. One-on-ones without much contact should favor him. The test for him if we're going to play him at 1-tech is how he handles it when the pads come on.

Watched Ambar and Broaddus on Periscope:

  • LVE injured his ankle and sat out today. Supposedly minor.
  • Lewis is still playing with 2nd team. Brown doing 1st team. Broaddus thinks Lewis has to do some work to convince Richard he can start despite being shorter. Says he missed on a play against Allen Hurns today by not quite being long enough to reach the ball.
  • Rico had a chance to make a play at the goal line but got the ball ripped from him.
  • Jaylon has played well, and March-Lillard is doing a good job.
  • Lewis Neal has a hamstring issue.
  • Broaddus says Byron Jones has looked good. Kelly is moving back to safety for now.
  • Marquez White has made some plays.
  • Broaddus said Mike White didn’t have a good practice yesterday, and missed throws. He did a little better today, but Broaddus says he has to figure out how to get the ball out quicker.
  • Broaddus says his biggest standout from all of OTAs has been Jihad Ward. Says that trade may prove valuable. Says he’s given even Travis Frederick problems when he lines up 1T.
  • Conner Williams needs to add more strength and muscle to help him win some match-ups, as he often overextends when he gets beaten by strength.
  • Ambar notes the team mood and atmosphere has been positive compared to previous years around this time.
  • They both said Taco looks better and is using technique more. Dorance Armstrong is still trying to beat La’el with athleticism and not technique, like Taco did last year, to poor results.
Good info thanks for posting for the rest of the board.

Why is Chaz Green still on the team. If their biggest fear is having to put Chaz Green in the game again then why is he even here? It is mind boggling some of the decisions they clowns continue to make.

Why do you think that's their biggest fear? They signed Fleming and Martin to try to improve depth, but getting Green back to how he played in 2016 would also improve depth. It's better for the team depthwise if the new OL coach can get Green back to his previous form rather than just moving on without seeing if that's possible.

Don't know if this was addressed but this was a knock of his in the scouting reports. Wonder how he's going to do with a sped up game and still be the second coming of Tom Brady.

OTA stands for “Overly Tired Assessments”. Every year at this time a “shorts and t-shirt star” emerges as “someone to watch”.

I don’t mean to be critical of this coverage. It is good info. I just think the team’s spokespeople tend to say generally the same stuff every year about this time. Until these guys are wearing full pads, I don’t get too excited.

TROOF!

funny, some people were already saying, we should prepare to get rid of Dak and Mike White is the future...specially if there are coaching changes....

I think anyone who studied the player knew he needed to add mass
That’s not gonna happen before this season but I expect him to be 10-12 lbs heavier and much stronger by next camp
This year that will be his weakness but long term that’s an easy fix

He can add 5 to 10 lbs of muscle between now and training camp.

Just to clarify again, they said Jihad has been moving around on the dline. They said he did well at the 1T and 3T against everyone he faced... which of course hasn’t included Zack Martin yet.

He certainly can if his diet is on point. This is also under the assumption he is lifting 4-5 times a week.

Gaining 5 pounds of muscle takes 5 weeks, more or less. So it would take about +\- 10 weeks to gain 10 pounds of muscle.

He can add 10 lbs
You aren’t adding 10 lbs of muscle that fast

Defense as a whole is a problem again you want to break it down as secondary vs DL yet they compliment each other. Atlanta especially in the 2nd half started hitting Dallas with some very effective runs Coleman put up 83 but as a whole Atlanta had 132 rushing with. If you get right down to it Dallas was ranked 16th in yards per carry at 4.1 while top defensive units were in the 3's per carry. Hell you can play good run defense for 3 qrts but if in the 4th you start getting gashed it was still a factor.
Nonsense.
Yards per carry is laughable largely because so many teams are bunched together. Dallas was right smack dab in the middle but .2 ypc would have made them tied for 6th.

Dallas as an offense averaged 4.5 ypc and 135 ypg.
On defense they averaged 104 ypg which was good for 8th. They gave up 7 rushing TDs which was tied for 3rd fewest.

ATL ran for 132 yards which was still fairly meaningless. It took them 34 attempts to do so.
Anyone with a brain knows we lost that game because the offense was so bad. 7 sacks allowed and only 7 points scored.
ATL was actually far more efficient passing the ball than running but had no reason

PHI rolled us but after that DAL allowed 81, 56, 102, 122, 76,70 rushing yards the remainder of the season.

The offense went one direction as the season progressed and the defense went another.
There is a reason DAL spent it's off-season money on OL/WR then drafted another OL then WR.
They also used a 1st to replace Hitchens because LB was painfully thin.

They didn't touch 1T because it's simply not a problem that merits mention except by the completely clueless.

Why would he not be on the team?
He’s cheap and has experience. Not many guess you could add for training camp any better
Being on the roster for camp doesn’t mean being on the roster after camp but he’s about as good as any other guy you could bring in for camp

Because he sucks.

Jerry mentioned his biggest fear was making sure Atlanta and Chaz Green didnt happen again. Its why they went out and used the 2nd pick on Conner and signed a few guys in FA.

so if having to rely on Chaz Green is your biggest fear then why is he on the team?

If you are happy with overall defense then good for you. I'm not, I don't think last years defense was a championship level defense.

Thanks for posting.

Beware of Broaddus. He often has a narrative on players before watching them practice.

Taco: The general expectation was for him to improve technique.

Armstrong: He was expected to have raw technique.

Connor Williams: He was expected to need to gain power/weight.

Ward: DL is the common spot where Broaddus says a new or young player is giving one of the All-Pro OL issues.

So says the true Cowboy scout:rolleyes:. The guy at least is there, none of us are, he has experience that none of us do, he’s privy to information that we aren’t. Lastly, it’s his job. Nobody gets it right all the time, but I will defer to the professional.

I agree but every great coach had or has the type players he wants to fit his scheme.

And it’s a must, not matching talent to scheme is flirting with disaster, it’s why the 3-4 never worked here consistently, like the 4-3 in the 90’s when smaller and faster players was our choice.
