Thats my opinion and I am sticking to it.

You may be right, but from reading some of the replies, I think it's safe to say that some don't understand the difference between what Michael Irvin went through and what kind of person and team mate he was compared to what kind of person and team mate TO is.

When did character mean more then talent?

Talent wins football games, Character doesnt.

All you have to do to see that is drive to your local high school or college football games.

Now this is about the most ridiculous post I have seen! Not a personal attack, but you did not think this through. All the talent in the world won't help if you have no heart. I don't believe you really mean this statement. It was just said in the heat of the moment.

Step back, take a deep breath and think about what you wrote!

High school or college football is the exact same as the nfl in regards that talent wins. The more talented team almost always wins.

Being a nice guy and a team player is nice, but if your not talented you won't be on the field playing. That is why I said to prove that just go watch a high school or college game.

Question: Did you play college football? if so. which got you on the field quicker, being nice or being more talented than the other players?

More proof of your absolute ignorance.

Yes, I did play college football. Yes, I did see players with talent on the bench cuz of various reasons.

And the fact that you're trying to take this "Debate" down that road is even MORE proof of your ignorance.

TO is talented. No denying that. But he doesn't give full effort every play (saw that last season). When things don't go his way, he let's it bring him down, and he takes that attitude on the field with him.

Every hear of CHEMISTRY? I see you ignored that one. Football is a TEAM sport. You don't just throw in a bunch of talented players and win games. The Commanders are proof of that.

And the Patriots were NOT the most "Talented" team when they won ANY of their SUperbowls. Best team? Yes, but not most talented. But they had great chemistry and were/are very well coached. Their players know their roles and they perform those roles to the best of their ability. You don't see many patriots player crying to the press about anything, and when they do they get released. Ty Law lasted one extra season with them only cuz it would of killed their cap to cut him the first season he started whining to the press.

My point is there's a lot more to winning football then talent alone. You need to look at every angle, not just become infactuated (sp?) with talent.

I haven't even mentioned TO's age and recent injury history.

i didnt mean to say that character doesn't play into it.

that part I was wrong about.

But i do feel talent is more important to winning. You can't teach a player to play faster or be instinctive, and character has nothing to do with that.

I agree. If talent alone were all you need then that Nebraska RB (Lawrence whatever) would of been an All Pro.

I agree character has nothing to do with that. But, again, football is a team sport. And your character effects the teammates around you. So in the end, character does effect the TEAM.

Well Im playing in college now. And I could care less about how the other guys on my team act as long as when they are on the field they play their hearts out and play together.

What they say about me behind my back, or what they tell there friends or even the newspapers does little to how i feel about them on the field. If i think they give me the best opportunity to win, I want them by my side.

Exactly. Obviously TO's teammates didn't feel that way about him in his last two stints.

I wouldn't care if he was just a Dirty SOB or a simple Jerk, but I wan't to be able to enjoy the Cowboys like I always have. Once TO is signed, the other 52 guys won't get half the media that TO does. Cowboy's games will become merely episodes in the real life drama that is TO, whether or not TO does anything out of the ordinary.

It's your opinion. And you are wrong.

First, I have saw the glory days. I have been a Cowboys fan since 1975.

I saw the "star incident".

So don't spew out ignorant garbage like this unless you are 100% positive what you say is correct. Otherwise, keep your opinion to yourself. And you can stick it alright.

It's just more of the romantic reliquary sentiment that this board breeds.

Us relics?

We don't like TO because we remember winning with CLASS!

Hilarious.

Irvin was 100 times the team player that T.O. is

Clearly your feelings are inaccurate and "personally" driven. Yes Irvin was very talented and one of "the men" in Dallas where the TD's were scored by Emmitt. But 100 times better than TO... uh, no.

In 10 seasons, Owens, who began his NFL career with the San Francisco 49ers as a third-round pick in the 1996 draft, has 716 receptions for 10,535 yards and 101 touchdowns.
He has appeared in 142 games, 128 of them as a starter, and has been chosen for the Pro Bowl five times.

Comparison

First 10 seasons

Michael Irvin - *12 year career, not 10
159 G | 147 GS | 65 TD | 750 REC | 11,904 Yards

Jerry Rice
156 G | 143 GS | 121 TD | 820 REC | 13,325 Yards

Terrell Owens
142 G | 128 GS | 101 TD | 716 REC | 10,535 Yards

Note: T.O. didnt have Montana throwing to him most of his career.

T.O. was forced to miss 9 games this year.

The info below is based on ONLY 7 games in 2005.

T.O. was still on pace for 1,500 yards last year(7 games=763 yards)
T.O. was on pace to pass his 14 TD's from year before.(7 games=6 TD's)
T.O. was on pace for over 100 receptions
T.O. had 43 First Downs in 2005 in just 7 games, on pace for over 80. easily would have passed his 51 First Downs in 2004
T.O. had 10 recptions for 20+ yards
T.O. had 4 receptions for 40+ yards
T.O. had 1 reception for 91 yards

He said TEAM player. Hes right. TO does not know what a team concept is.

You stats prove hes a good receiver, but says nothing about the 2 teams he left in shambles. You could not be more wrong in your conclusion.

The only chance that the Cowboys had to maybe (MAYBE) make this TO thing work; they killed by cutting Keyshawn. He was the only player on the team (or in the league) poised to mentor TO.

Parcells would like to - I'm sure - be a mentor to TO and help the man find his path to character and sucess... but let's face it - he's got a whole franchise to run and bond together as a team.

Without Keyshawn to help - I fear that the TO thing does not stand a chance.

:eek:hno:

One of the biggest wastes of a post I've ever seen.

bzzzz... wrong here.

with FA/Cap "character and class" is secondary to winning superbowls. jurrah flushed our 90s dynasty down the drain and it's time for Tuna to have a legitimate shot at winning a playoff game already.

Yea character was really important to Jimmy Johnson, right! Ive been a Cowboys fan for almost 30 years and I for one want them to sign TO. I think some of you forget this isnt the same Cowboys team that use to make the playoffs year in and year out, this team has sucked for almost a full decade and the offense has been downright pitiful to watch. Greg Ellis is a great guy but Ill take Charles Haley all day.

I dont seem to recall many cowboys fans caring that Michael Irvin was supposed to be a cokehead along with the majority of our super bowl teams seemingly dodging one off the field problem after the other.
Yeah, we cared. Do you think that we enjoyed being the butt end of all those jokes?

Don't you think that the jokes will start right up again as soon as he is signed?

I can hear 'em now:

Brokeback Mountain Cowboys let T.O. "stick it to 'em".....

T.O.'s mouth...the only thing bigger than the hole in the roof!

Legendary mouth joins legendary team.......

Dallas fans put their newspapers on the floor. That way, they'll BEND OVER to read them while T.O. does his thing......

Fool me once, shame on you!
Fool me twice, shame on me!
Fool me three times........DAMN!! You must be from Dallas!
