I had a Brazilian roommate once, a guy who had been a professional in Brazil for a while, a midfielder. Of course he ended up playing for the college team, they snuck him in as a ringer.
Soccer is interesting, especially when you have people who can really handle the ball. But it's slow paced, a bit like baseball in that respect, and if you don't know the things to look for, it's probably as dull as paint drying. Or if you're watching a team playing one of those English ultra-defensive styles :/.
In any event, he was my roommate when Italy won the cup. Talk about someone who was so mad he could barely speak. It was fun. The Italian striker that year was phenomenal..

Frankly I don't see how folks can call soccer boring if they accept long periods of inactivity in football, baseball, hockey, and basketball as part of the excitement. Most of my friends who grew up watching soccer can't stand the commercials, timeouts, and slow pace of American sports.

Considering that ratings for Soccer in the us is a joke; I have a lot of company. SOCCER is boring- not enough scoring- too much running around and accomplishing nothing. And since when has what the rest of the world thought been all that right or important?

so you're the type that only watches the hot shows after they are proven ratings wise? you prolly caugth the sopranos and 24 in their 2nd season. i enjoy watching all sports, even golf (when tiger plays). Scoring in soccer is no different than it is in football or baseball. just because a football team scores 28 points doen't mean the scored 28 times. if you enjoy basketball and hockey you can enjoy soccer. heck, i even enjoy pinball paced arena football. it just a matter of sitting down and paying close attention. you blink and you miss a great play. I actually am not a great fan of baseball, NBA or hockey either. As usual you miss the point:
people do not CARE about soccer. Its BORING. Pretty much like golf as well.
You soccer lovers can whine and cry all you want- I am glad most in this country ignore it. And since when has the rest of the world been all that right about much of anything that is important? Yeah- many over there love socialism- hah. They have also done a great job of electing people like Mussolini, Hitler, Milosovich, etc. Or having lots of coups to put bloody types like Saddam in power. As far as I am concerned, I see nothing in their history that warrants any special consideration for their points of view.

I hate soccer with a purple passion, but I'll never say it isn't a sport. Why do I hate it? There are all kinds of reasons, the main one is I just don't find it interesting at all. I'll watch all kinds of sports before I'd ever bother to watch 1 soccer highlight. That's my right. I thank my lucky stars I have 2 daughters who don't want to play soccer, because I doubt I could even watch my own kids play it.
Is it boring? To me it is. Does that mean I'm right? Hardly, because I've never been elected Jiminy Cricket for the whole world.
I happen to like stuff that other people might find boring. Like History of the Old West and their gunfighters. I have no problem with somebody not liking that, or my love for Western movies or Country music. If you don't like them, fine. I won't care.
I've never understood the fight between the 2 sides in soccer. It has to be the most pointless exercise in history. There is no way one side is going to change the other side's mind.

I can't stand soccer. I would rather be kicked in the balls than to watch an entire game and I hate getting kicked in the balls. I have no desire whatsoever to bash you because you enjoy the game.
