If Millen wants to go out in a blaze of glory this week is his chance. Send us Roy for a late pick. The brass is conspiring to axe you Matt.

Bill Ford Jr.: I'd fire Millen if I ran the Lions

BY TOM WALSH • FREE PRESS BUSINESS COLUMNIST • September 22, 2008

Detroit Lions vice chairman Bill Ford Jr., at a Detroit Economic Club event Monday, had this to say in response to a reporter’s question about the Lions game on Sunday:

“It was an embarrassment, the fans deserve better, and if I had the authority, I would have fired the general manager,” Matt Millen, Ford said.

When asked again a few minutes later if he would fire Millen, he said, “Yes, but I don’t have that authority.”

The Lions are 0-3. Their latest loss was a 31-13 defeat at San Francisco.

I still maintain: Would it be a good idea to add a premier weapon midseason? Tony seems like a real rhythm QB that needs a good understanding of where his receivers would be. I'd love to see him added talent wise, but I think chemistry wise a move like this might be better suited for the offseason -- as much as I'd LOVE to see his name on the field pronto; just wonder if it'd be best for the team right now.

It was once. The Calvin Johnson offer.

While Jones didnt say which WR deal it applied to, he did say a few weeks ago that "getting that WR would have cost us a DeMarcus Ware" or something along those lines.

And he made the right decision to hang up the phone at that point. Ware >>>> any WR

So who does have the authority to fire him?

Felix has a better chance of rushing for a grand this season than the Cowboys trading for Williams before the deadline.

It helps keep him on the sidelines, which is a very good thing. Oh, and why anyone would want ANYTHING Detroit Lions coming aboard and infecting our team with their loser stink is beyond me.

Newsflash: Roy Williams is a me-first, prima donna receiver who has never positively impacted his team at either the college or pro level. Look beyond some misleading personal stats and know that I speak truth. He's just not an impact player some make him out to be.

?? I suppose you have facts to back up this kind of statement... You never hear anything bad out of Roy Williams mouth. Granted he may not be TO but do you think TO would be as good as he is on a team like the lions? Roy would be an immediate upgrade over Crayton, Btw I think Crayton is a decent wr. Roy is a profesional who if anything may play a little soft thats it.

Roy may not be a true number one but we have our number one. Roy would be an amazing number 2 which would actually be a number 3 here (witten) being the number 3.

Back to my point, Roy is a good person and hes by no means a so called prima donna wide reciever.

Roy Williams, W.R. If the Lions lose next week, which they will, they go to 0-4. Season pretty much over. As soon as the lions drop that game next week If I were Jerry I'd be on the horn dangling a 1st round pick to Detroit. If the Lions balk I would increase the offer to a 1st and a 5th, no more. Landing Williams would really set us up for the latter part of the season and the playoffs. He's pretty familiar with our offense too having played under Martz in Detroit which used a version of the air coryell/ turner stuff. Think were running the ball well now? Add Williams to the mix and that field will open up like Moses parting the red sea...........;) This would be a huge move Imo that would pay big dividends in every way imaginable for our offense.

By heck! I say no. A thousand times no.:stop:
Geez, we got WR depth and these young kids were drafted for the reason they are good athletes and by darn they should have a chance to play and show what they got. Hurd has shown flashes, Stanback too and now Austin is all of the sudden a diamond in the rough.

Also what about the dynamic of T.O. sharing even more with somebody else. Huh? Huh? What baggage does the Lions savior bring?

I say we gamble and take a season-long look at the big three backups.

And when they earn their playing time, Romo will make them better, goshdarnit!

Hey, if he breaks one for 60 yards or more each game, he's SURE to go over 1000...

I can see his stats line at the end of the season-- 60 carries, 1075 yards, 15 TDs... works for me...
