Interesting observations tx...especially since this was the first opportunity to watch a game since February. Ok, let's say that 3-quaters of the game was boring. Did you miss the 1st quarter when the Raiders 1st team went up against th Eagles 1st team?

Honestly,
Nothing the Eagles did tonight scared me. It was a series of short outs and runs followed by a heap load of missed tackles and slow to react defense. Honestly, I give props to the Eagles for making a bad team look bad. However, I think I remember (maybe it was the first preseason game) of the TO era and I believed the Eagles went to TO on a crossing route deep. I can't remember the exact play but I thought to myself, "Oh my God, I think we are in trouble!". I never got that feeling at all last night. I got the feeling that if Newman was guarding Brown, it would have been broken up. Or we would have gotten pressure on Mcnabb. The Raiders look to be a team in the basement. I wouldn't read too much into this.

McNabb and co. done after one series?
Who wants to bet that is all for public relations and has everything to do with TO in some way.
I mean come on... now they can say "See we are awesome without TO."

Not a very fair accessment dmq. Why? Because you're not giving any credit to the Raiders, and you're saying that a team that has a decent QB in Aaron Brooks, ...with a wide receiver the likes of Randy Moss and Jerry Porter, ...and a running back Like Lamont Jordan is basement contender.

Secondly your assessment is based on a biased perception of an Eagles 1st Team that played "less" than one-quarter!

Come on dmq ...how about hatIng realistically!

Last night may have been just a pre-season game but anyone writing Philly off I think is making a mistake. I expect this to be a 4 team race

Aaron Brooks quarterbacked a basement team last year, and Lamont Jordon, Randy Moss, and Joey Porter also played on a basement team last year.

So it seems calling the Raiders a basement team is a pretty fair assessment.

That's music coming from you Dd101. I appreciate the gesture. We're not trying to say we back (yet) ...but we just want to regain the respect to be considered NFC-East contenders.

I think they will compete at NFC-East level standards this year.

I can't stand the eagles my least favorite team in the NFL but I also realize this team has some talented players and coaches and was winning even before TO set foot in Philly. To think they will just roll over and die is not reality. I think they are a team that feels they have a lot to prove and I expect to see them fighting tooth and nail for the NFC East.

Slow down, aren't you putting the cart before the horse? This is only a preseason game and you're calling the Raiders a basement team without giving them an opportunity of proving that they are an improved team.

That game could very well have been called the rookie bowl under other circumstances. Don't let your hatred for the Eagles block the certainty that yesterday's game is no where near representative of the Eagles worth nor the Raiders.

Neither the Philadelphia Eagles nor the Dallas Cowboys have the privilege of playing the Oakland Raiders in the Regular season anyway!

Before I finish this post, I'd like to draw your attention toward the 1st team defensive squad ...Howard showed his versatility on the opening drive. From the defensive tackle spot in the nickel formation, Howard got great push on the line and tackled Oakland running back LaMont Jordan in the backfield for a one-yard loss. On the Raiders' second drive, it was Howard from the tackle spot again and defensive end Jevon Kearse from the edge who helped setup a third-down sack for defensive end Trent Cole.

"It's all about push," said Cole. "If you get the push, then someone's going to be there. Last year, I had to play the whole game. This year (with Howard), I can come in 100, no 110 percent off the edge. It's just speed, all out speed and technique."
The Eagles have shown they have the tools to play physical, downhill defense. The pieces are in place to attack and force miscues to allow one of the deepest secondaries in the league to prey. It may have been only a few plays, but it sets the tone. And to think, this is without first-round draft pick defensive tackle Brodrick Bunkley in the lineup ...

lets face it, the hall of fame game is never that exciting. especially with the completely washed up raiders and the eagles who won't really amount to much of anything anytime soon.

No disrespect, but people who live in glass houses ...

Listen, basement teams of yesterday make Superbowl Champs tomorrow! Let me break this down for you nice and easy for our two fandoms ...

That said ...

Cowboys: 9-7 (one team away from the basement in 2005; why?).

Here's your preseason ...with the opponent team's record in 2005 highlighted...

New Orleans (3-13) basement Team in 2005

San Francisco (4-12) basement team in 2005

Minnesota (9-6) respectable standing in 2005

Eagles: 6-10 (basement team in 2005; no excuses)

Here's our preseason ...with the opponent team's record in 2005 highlighted...

Oakland (4-12) basement team in 2005

Cleveland (6-10) basement team in 2005

Ravens (6-10) basement team in 2005

Pittsburgh (11-5) Superbowl Champs in 2005!

New York Jets (4-12) basement team in 2005

NOTE: The Cowboys play only 3 preseason games versus the Eagles 5 games. two-thirds of your preseason games are with "basement" teams versus our playing the Superbowl champs.

The Cowboys play this Saturday (win or lose, Bill Parcells gets to look at some rookies, and make some decisions about the roster). While a win is nice, it won't come at the expense of not taking a look across his team to weed-out players who aren't "the real deal." Keep this in your back pocket ...Bill Parcells does not want to take any unnecessary chances and get any 1st team player injured during any preseason game.

It's No big deal if you lose to all 3 teams you play ...this is the fact finding part of the season ...in other words, it's Bill's time!

So get rid of the basement drama, and Hope your players remain healthy for when the regular season starts!

While I'm not interested in getting in your debate, Dallas plays FOUR Pre-Season games, with the first one against Super Bowl participant and defending NFC Champion Seattle this Saturday.

Sure you're right ...and I knew that, but the whole point of the post was generated toward "basement teams" (that were singled out by another poster), and the importance (or insignificance) of these pre-season games.

I'm not sure you really did, P-T. To be honest, I don't even know what your point was with your post. I'm was simply pointing out that you said 2/3rds of Dallas' pre-season games were against so-called "basement teams" and by leaving off Seattle, your figure is incorrect and should be changed to 1/2 of Dallas' pre-season games are against these "basement teams."

That's all.

Phonetic-Talon, why don't you save yourself some typing, and just use any of your posts from years past? They say about the same thing every year, and every year...same result...your team still has nothing to show for all of your bragging...!

Next time you want to post something, just go to the archives, find any post of yours, copy and paste, then do whatever it is that loser Eagle fans do...

Just some advice....save the stroking, it's not going to help...

Hold on ... (long pause) ...had to drink my usual glass of water before I read your dry posts. ;)

Now what are you saying? No, can't do that ...I'd get banned for sure if I did that!:

I am not saying Oakland doesn't have very good skill players, but you have to admit that if Oakland could just tackle or react, they wouldn't have made it look so easy for the Eagles. I never said the line play wasn't dominant by the Eagles also. My whole point was that when I saw TO catch passes in the preseason w/ the Eagles, I knew we were gonna have trouble stopping him. I don't have that same fear with Reggie Brown. In the game even Madden said the Oakland run tackling was poor. Oakland may end up being a 8-8 team. I just think they will be in the running for the Brady Quinn sweepstakes.
