Players have name recognition because their on the field play dictates it.

Okay, I'll bite.

Please, tell me in detail which players on our roster should be replaced, who we should replace them with, at what cost should the newly acquired player be signed without hindering the rest of our roster.

Where did I say that anyone should be replaced? You created this thread with two points:

1. That posters just wanted Greg Hardy because he was a name.

2. That the players people have wanted were not really better than what we already have.

Both points are patently false. Greg Hardy is more than a name and there were many players in Free Agency that people wanted that were obvious upgrades to the players we have along the defensive line.

Ok, besides Hardy, name a player that people are "freaking out about" that is really not better than what we already have. I have seen no one freak out. Hardy would be the closest and he is clearly better than what we have.

As it stands, our defensive ends consist of Lawrence, Kenneth Boatright, Jack Crawford, Lavar Edwards and Ben Gardner. Our DTs consist of Ken Bishop, Davon Coleman, Josh Brent, Tyrone Crawford, Terrell McClain and Chris Whaley.

I am sorry, other than DeMarcus Lawrence, Tyrone Crawford and, possibly, Josh Brent there is very little there that is better than what we have seen go in Free Agency.

Aside from the Hardy talk... of the DL listed on the roster, I'm excited to see the jump Ken Bishop makes this season... check out his college highlight film if you didn't catch it last year...
and Ben Gardner can be looked at as a rotational player... plus the draft... never know, we might grab a diamond in the rough.

Uh, Greg Hardy IS markedly better than anyone we have on the roster. He is not a "generational" talent but he is one of the best DEs in the league. There is no arguing that.

I'm reminded of coach Garrett's message of wanting to attract the RKG, "right kind of guy" to our roster. Whether Hardy fits that description depends on your definition of RKG. It is my opinion that the coach was talking about character and not pure on-the-field prowess. For that reason I do not believe Hardy would be welcomed on our roster by the coach. So it does not surprise me he is not being pursued by our team. I will not dispute he is one of the best DE's in the league but that alone does not and should not be the sole qualifier for a spot on our roster... and was rightly the greater point to the coaches assertion in wanting to attract the "right kind of guy" to the roster. Character matters.

I think too many of you fall in love with names. I mean come on, you're acting like Greg Hardy is JJ Watt or something. Yes, he's a fantastic player, but he's not some All-World generational talent; he's a good DE.

I also think some of you want the Cowboys to sign anyone with a name you've heard before and a smudge of talent. (see Paea, Sheard, etc)

Obviously the Cowboys don't feel that many of these Free Agents are better than what we already have on the roster.

I think that many of you want the Cowboys to make lateral moves just because you like to see new names on the roster.

The player you sign in Free Agency needs to be markedly better than what we have on the roster, and most of them just aren't. Otherwise, it's truly not worth it. It's not an upgrade, it's a sidegrade. Just swapping names.

Trust in the Cowboys being smart in Free Agency and building this team through the draft.

There is no one player, signed or not, that will put this team in the Super Bowl.

Can we at least sign a FB ?

How does Josh Brent, Joseph Randle and even Dez Bryant fit that definition? Randle and Dez didn't do anything as bad as what Hardy is accused of doing but there are still character issues there. Josh Brent killed a team mate. There are certainly issues there.

When you have Jeremy Mincey as your team leader with 6 sacks, I see that as a glaring weakness. Something that should have been addresses in the last 2 offseasons. Maybe Lawrence is that guy, but I would still pay Hardy.

Yeah, how dare these silly people want talented players? Who needs talent when you can get cheap players from the scrap heap. Great thinking OP.

JJones found out these high dollar players rarely paid off.
it work fairly well last year considering the constraints
Hardy has too many problems anyway

 what do you honestly think the odds of us drafting a starting caliber defensive lineman at pick #27 are? I'd love to hear your answer to this.

what were the odds of finding a starting LB that would be able to play
all LB positions last in as a rookie in the fourth rd.

Hardy is a big off the field problem and throwing high dolllars
his way isn't the new management policy

And the Cowboys have a thing for high character guys, not jagoffs, or dudes who hit women.

Yep. Josh Brent. High character guy. Joseph Randle. High character guy. Dez Bryant. High character guy.

You have such a lucid point!

There were plenty of non high dollar free agents that would have helped our team that we apparently were never even close on. Had we signed guys like Sheard, Peters, Langford, Clayborn, Ayers, and a few others I can't think of right now there wouldn't a need for a desperation Hardy signing.

Really? Did you even think before you posted that? Need I refresh your memory on our past 4th round picks?

If you take that even a step further you look at CZ tonight and see a lot of people pinning their hopes on an "interesting" cross section of players:
  • Hardy -- Woman beater
  • Peterson - Child beater
  • Ro McClain - substance abuser to name one of many issues
Maybe the Cowboys should put a waiver claim in on Aaron Hernandez too.

;)

I was referencing Hitchens, yes really
may I refresh yours that there's a new scouting philosophy in town
and their doing a bang up job ,of course the obsession to see the worst
in the FO is pervasive here at Cowboyzone

the results of high dollar FA's have been a fifty fifty results .
If we take our time and build through the draft the Romo
window will be open
