I don't think the doctors screwed this one up.

They did a clean up on his knee of a cartilage issue to provide a quicker route back. What happened was, due to a prior knee procedure in 2008, where he had a similar procedure done to what was done this year, the remaining cartilage was not resilient enough to eliminate a bone on bone issue. As a result, he needs microfracture to attempt to create that buffer between the bones. The Cowboys were in a no lose situation with attempting what they attempted because the contract was already signed.

Sucks that they had a $10 million miss this year, but it is what it is.

This happens to other teams as well. Some folks act this is only happens to the Cowboys. Your right, it does happen. In this case Jerry/Stephen were smart not to give Spencer a long term deal.

Nobody knew Spencer who has been relatively healthy would get hurt. I mean its just how it is. You lose guys. You can't see it coming.

Cowboys are not really missing him now. Doubt they will miss him next season, especially if he commands an exorbitant price tag.

And all that hinges on IF Marinelli is still here. Without Marinelli, who knows how the DL will peform, even with a healthy Spencer.

Hope the 10 mill was worth it because he just screwed himself out of a ton of money. Have a hard time believing a guy didn't know his own knee problem before inking a contract. Dallas attempted a last ditch effort to salvage their investment and surprise suprise, his knee is "sore". Poor Anthony. Wouldn't be surprised if he was forced to sign an incentive laden contract just to get on a team next year.

The guy got almost $20 mm for essentially playing for one season. He's set for life. No way his knee wasn't an issue before July.

If I remember correctly, Spencer signed his franchise tender really quickly, like the first day or week or something. Usually, players balk at the franchise tag and hem and haw and then sign before camp. I think Spencer knew something was up with his knee and he wanted to sign before the cowboys pulled the tag.

That $10M sure could have been used somewhere else like towards signing Dez long term. But, hey, the other guys like Hayden and Selvie are stepping up. No use crying over spilled milk.
