I'll let you settle your roll a bit before digging in here on this topic. I'm sure you'll still be worked up about it later in the week. Maybe in your after-every-loss poll thread about our relative satisfaction with the head coach?
I can see trying to convert there, too, but running the clock out is an option a lot of coaches would have taken. An incompletion on 2nd and 13 would have been even worse.
It was the holding penalty on a running play that killed us there. I'd buy the argument that the offense should never be getting a holding flag in that situation and that that's ultimately on the head coach, if that's the argument you care to make.
You go for one first down, even if you have to pass it. Yes, an incompletion stops the clock. But playing not to lose and having Tanner run it was stupid. He has "fresh" legs, but he's cold. It was just stupid game management.
You have to know what every second means, how every play impacts the clock. Garrett doesn't get that. He hasn't been able to grasp it for 3 years. It's not like this is his first time, just like this isnt' the first thread on the topic either. It's a habit, not a process.
