I can't find an official listing of the final practice squad.

I was primarily curious if the final spot went to Jemea Thomas.

Ourlads has this:
Benford, Tim WR
Boatright, Kenneth DE
Patrick, Ronald OC
Pellerin, Micah SS
Smith, Keith IB
Smith, Will LB
Williams, Ryan RB
Whitlock, Nikita FB
Wetzel, John OG
Thomas, Jemea FS

Any chance Spillman was brought in just to guage the 9ers offesnse in preparation for this week? The reason I ask is Thomas being retained via the PS. Just curious that is all.

I doubt it. Thomas is seen as a special-teams guy and Spillman is seen as a better one. I think we're hoping to hold on to both, but saw a chance for an immediate upgrade with Spillman.

Spillman's contract will be guaranteed once he's on the roster for game 1.

I think they like Thomas as a developmental player. Thomas played both Safety and CB in college. The Patriots had him at CB from my understanding. The Cowboys moved him to Safety. A Safety with CB skills is exactly what the Cowboys could use as a developmental type player, IMO.

I would not be surprised to see him return at some point. He can't return to the NFL until is injury settlement time period is over, but it could happen.

Actually Matt Johnson was waived/injured so when he cleared waivers he was automatically put on our IR list. He never got a settlement so he's out the whole year on IR.
I don't know if he can get a settlement while on IR (I am pretty sure not), but he's a Cowboys still... technically.

I'm counting on it! ;) He is still young and Dallas can still use quality FSs.

I've seen conflicting reports on him being on IR or getting an injury settlement. All injured players that are cut automatically revert to IR, but most them get an injury settlement.

It is possible to have them on IR for some period of time and still give them an injury settlement.

It's even possible for a player to turn down and injury settlement because they don't want to be locked out of the NFL for the period of the settlement.

This is what I understood but adamknite could be right.

Not saying that isn't true, but the only players dallascowboys.com has on IR are Sean Lee and Ben Gardner.

they thought on talking cowboys that it was more the connection with our special teams coach when they were both at San Diego.
