Why would anyone be opposed to the team putting anyone on the PS?

Great move if they follow through and sign Sam. The practice squad is not designed to develop players, though that does sometimes happen. We carried 5 receivers, so of course we want 1-2 guys on the PS to run all the routes needed against the defense. You want a RB on the PS because you don't want your game day players taking extra reps against the #1 D. And so it goes for linemen.

The PS can also be used just to take a look. We had no interest in Sam at draft time due to measurables, but the dude racked up an impressive # of tackles to go with 3 sacks, so sign him to the PS, line him up at DE, and see if he defies measurables and is a productive, relentless pass rusher. If he is, WIN....if he isn't, you can cut him any time you want and sign or resign another guy.

For fans to be opposed to anyone being on the PS just for a look see or to help you "practice" is sort of crazy.

He's the one I would prefer too. But they probably want to keep that 6th WR on the team and use him for scout team. I would guess one of the LBs could get the axe.

You're probably right but their has to be better options for PS as far as WR's go.

Yes, they normally keep a couple of WRs on the PS for scout team purposes.

I envision Benford as the guy from Office Space that kept coming to work after they moved him to the basement and quit paying him.

I'd like you to explain in detail why you think so.

It's easy too throw out crap statements like that, without backing them up.

here are the FACTS, he's too small, too short, too light, too slow, no burst, no speed, short arms, classic college Tweener not NFL measurable's...not even on the Cowboys draft board....that pretty much backs up what I saw in him....and no other teams put a claim or signed him....

He showed more against back-ups than our linemen did.

I think it warrants trying him on the PS.

He does not have short arms. His 10 yard time was better than some early round DEs.

He doesn't have great measureables, but there have been successful NFL players with worse.

I'm not a fan of the extra media attention, but there is cost involved in putting him on the PS.

I don't understand the too small comment, either. He's ten pounds heavier than DeMarcus Lawrence and only an inch shorter.

we signed the SEC defensive player of the year to our practice squad,

as for distractions, seems par for the course. players killing players, star players fighting with moms, owner taking odd pictures with women. I could go on and on for ever about distractions.

what I don't get is the delay in the move. Why did a 7th rounder clear waivers? The contract had to be league minimum, right?

He plays the strong side and it does not appear the nfl thinks he has enough quickness to play the weak.
