Jon Heyman reported an interesting note at his twitter about 10 minutes ago.
Yankees might – repeat, might – consider giving up Joba for Halladay. but wont entertain request of Joba & Hughes
Halladay is ripe for the pickings. With the Phillies refusing to give up some of their top prospects the Blue Jays might have to start to look elsewhere. Joba is pitching better than ever. Offer them Joba for Halladay and see if they bite.
Halladay and Sabathia would be one of the best 1-2 combos we have seen in a long time, maybe ever. You just don’t know what the future brings so why not go for it now?
It appears the stars are aligning for the Yankees to swoop in and steal Halladay like they did with Mark Teixeira this winter. Should be an exciting week with the trade deadline coming up Friday.

Now, Halladay would probably lock the Yanks for another title but if they can't get him, then Arroyo or Lee would also be a pretty good pickup. Arroyo is a work horse and Lee has over 100Ks with a 3.14 ERA, which is not too bad for a 5th starter.
You figure CC, Pettitte, Burnett, Jaba and either Halladay, Arroyo or Lee with Hughes for Long Relief and Mariano as closer, that would be a nice rotation. Joba or Hughes could get moved but I don't know.
According to Peter Abraham of The Journal News, the Yankees have shot down a rumor that they have interest in the Reds' Bronson Arroyo.
A source told AOL Fanhouse's Jeff Fletcher this afternoon that a deal "will get done," but Abraham is a highly trusted source when it comes to Yankee affairs. It seems the Yanks will stick with Sergio Mitre as their No. 5 starter, unless something happens before Friday.

Lee would most definitely become their #2 behind CC, then goes Burnett, Joba, and w/e #5, Aceves or Mitre.
Hughes has been locked into the setup role for Mariano.
My bet is the Yanks stand pat.
ABQCOWBOY;2857076 said:That's not an accurate report. From what I understand, that deal is not dead by any means. The deal hinges on how much salary the Yankees would have to take on. I don't know that Lee would become the #2 ahead of Burnett. A.J. is 10-4 5-0 in his last 6 starts with an ERA of 2.27 in Jun and July. At this point, you can make the case that Burnett is the Yankee #1 as opposed to CC. It's pretty close.

Burnett is pitching really good right now but Lee is the reigning Cy Young winner, pitching on an extremely crappy team. He is 7-9 with a 3.14 ERA, that right there shows you how bad the Indians are. Cliff Lee has 10 starts this year in which he has given up 3 ER or less and got the loss or a no decision, 5 of which he has given up 2 ER or less...

#1 Halladay
#2 Beckett
#3 Lester
yeah the sox would be the favorites no doubt. i hope the bluejays are that dumb.SLATEmosphere;2857679 said:Pretty disgusting. Man I hope the Yanks shed that garbage called Joba. He can't even go 5 innings. Cashman won't let Halladay go to the Sox. That rotation would guarentee them the title. When they have Beckett and Schilling they were unbeatable in the playoffs.

probably. the yankees are a joke. they just spent almost a half billion dollars on 3 players this offseason.SLATEmosphere;2857715 said:Ya if it did happen I can guarentee you that Cliff Lee will be Yankee then. No way they stand pat and let the Red Sox just win an easy title.

SLATEmosphere;2857731 said:They have a pretty good farm system. They just fill certain holes with high priced FA's. They want to win. Most people don't know that 58% of their current roster is homegrown. That's 2nd in the league to the Rockies. Jackson,Montero,Brackman and Betences are all legit prospects. There's nothing wrong with filling holes in your roster with big FA's. As a fan I wanna see that. Most of thier talent is homegrown and they have a misconception about them "buying" a ring.
DIAF;2857765 said:Too bad most of their best players are usually hired guns. Hence the "buying" a ring.
CC Sabathia, AJ Burnett, Mark Teixiera, ARoid, Johnny Damon, Hideki Matsui, Swisher, Nady........
