My wife and tried watching Red Notice w/Gal Gadot, Ryan Reynolds, and the Rock. We didn’t make it through the first 20 minutes; it’s was honestly just lame. Cheese ball fighting scenes and script.

We ended up watching the new Bond movie No Time to Die and it was really entertaining. Had no expectations and was really shocked at the ending. Bond’s girl was a smoke show too (of course).
Red Notice is one of those flicks you have to go into knowing it's just meant to be silly. It's still not a really good movie, but as long as you aren't expecting anything Oscar worthy, it has its moments of humor ..and Gal Gadot.

What's funny is we put the kids to bed, and I turned on the TV and literally said "let's just watch some mindless entertainment." Lol, like I said, we got to about the 15 minute mark and we just weren't feeling it even with lowered expectations.

I was thinking of this the other night while trying to watch Netflix movie. With all of the increase in production of new films and series, how can we not have a drop in acting, directing and writing talent? There is just so much talent in the pool for theatrical films, how many jobs have been added since streaming has become the new home entertainment?

I have begun to lower my expectations and not apply my usual 10 minute rule I applied to DTV films. As far as our reviews here, are they any different than other reviews? Odds are someone is going to like it or be more forgiving and someone else isn't going to like it at all.

And I find myself being Mr. Critic so much more with the "I spent the money and time to come see this" forgiveness that now I sit back like Caesar with my thumb out to go up or down.

And that talent sword swings both ways because I have also discovered some new talent through the exposure of so much more material than I have ever seen in my life. They're just all in a much larger pool now that I feel I have become overly critical. Also the mood over the land does affect me as well. Sometimes, I think I sit back, with arms crossed with a "OK, entertain me" attitude and that's hard to break through.

I have only watched the first season but thought you might find that interesting.
i am not surprised by it’s popularity but when I look at the top rated shows, I am out. I discovered a long time back that my taste in entertainment is not in concert with the majority and that is neither good nor bad, just my taste.

Most people are shocked when I tell them that I could never get into Seinfeld or Friends, two hugely popular sitcoms, because of my sense of humor. But I tried both, and just recently again, and 0 connection.

Like my favorite football team, ratings does not always mean great.

I do not judge others for what they like or do not like as I have liked TV shows that most people hated and had no interest in shows that others loved.

I just like variety and I like that people have endless options available to them no matter their interests or current moods.

Sometimes I dislike a show and then years later watch a few episodes and enjoy it. At the same time there are shows I liked years ago that I do not enjoy when I try watching them again even if there were episodes I never saw.

Our interests change over time and our interests in the moment tend to be based more on what we watched and enjoyed recently than what we enjoyed a while back.

Streaming at least gives everyone options to trial-and-error show after show until you find something that grabs your attention at the moment.

Never thought Jerry was that funny as a stand up.
Tried watching the first few episodes of the first season of Seinfeld and did not care for it.

Years later I started watching them on reruns as a friend was a big fan. LOVED IT. Of course I still think Jerry was the actual weak link of the show but he was the one that tied the other characters I did like together.

As far as friends go. A few weeks ago I was sitting at the VA for my dad to get out and they had friends on the TV. I believe that was the first episode of friends I had ever seen. Don't plan on watching anymore of them.

Generally speaking if I miss the first season of a show it is kind of rare for me to start watching it afterwards.

Sons of Anarchy is a prime example of that. Did not catch the first season so I did not bother watching it. Some years later a friend said, you gotta give it a try. The show was on netflix and I found myself binge watching all of the seasons. Enjoyed the show although it got old towards the end with the repetition in the twists. But still enjoyed it.

Sometimes I just don't give a show a fair shot in the beginning. More often then not I might give it another chance and for the most part my initial exp holds true. But there are times when I change my mind such as in Seinfeld.

I think some shows you have to watch at certain ages that align with the characters of the show for them to resonate with you. Once they do, you can carry those memories with you and continue watching those shows many years later.

For example, most adults without young children do not watch kid or teen shows, but you may have fond memories of many kid/teen shows you watched growing up and can still enjoy them today even if they are no longer your first choice to watch of course.

I think it is the same way with non-kid shows like Friends. If you watched Friends during your 20s or 30s, you were probably more inclined to associate with the characters so you were more likely to enjoy it. Trying to watch it for the first time in your 40s or later makes it more difficult to relate to the characters (not impossible of course as some people enjoy it for the first time when they are even older).

At the same time, a lot of shows that I was never interested in when I was younger seem more appealing to me now that I am older.

I am careful to never write off a show due to lack of interest because I know that one day I may find it interesting.

The great thing though is that there are always TV show options available so no matter what you are in the mood to watch, or even rewatch, you always have options to choose from.

You're not alone with your feelings on Seinfeld. The series definitely took time to find its' footing. As I recall, it almost didn't make it to that second season. That's when it hit its' stride and became the iconic TV series that we now know.

Yep, times and tastes can change which is why I gave Seinfeld and Friends another shot but nothing, not even a smile. But that's OK.

I know people that think The Office, Parks and Recreation and Community are lame, silly and stupid and I enjoyed them because they speak to that part of me. Not everyone can get into The 3 Stooges, Little Rascals, The Bowery Boys, Jerry Lewis, Jim Carrey, Will Farrell or Chris Farley.

What I have found is if a show doesn't hook me quickly, the law of diminishing returns sets in unless it is recommended by someone that I know their tastes and they know mine. It's like a restaurant recommendation. Take that from a stranger?

That's what happened with Breaking Bad. It moved a little slow to grab me but when it did, it had me. Same thing for The Wire. I was already predisposed to liking Better Call Saul because they had conditioned me.

Seinfeld and Friends are okay but not really my sense of humor. Ross' character really bugged the heck out of me so I can't watch it.

One of my favorite comedy shows is Rules of Engagement. It is one of those shows they could never put on TV these days, probably why I love it.

It's the mood you're in as well. I tired to watch the first episode of Peaky Blinders 3 different times and could not get into it--just distracted. On the 4th try, however, I loved it and ended up binging all the seasons.

I agree .. I mentioned that in my last sentence :D

For me, I tend to be more interested in shows similar to ones I have watched recently.

I hated friends. Here is the format for every show.

Joey has one line with something dumb or about women, laugh track

Chandler has one sarcastic line, laugh track

Monica has one neurotic line, laugh track

Phoebe has one air head line, laugh track

Etc.
Repeat
End of show

If you only watch the show listening for laugh track it is insane. Same with most shows like that

Watch Many Saints of Newark last night. It was okay. Decent story lines about the parents and grandparents of some of the Sopranos characters. The ending left a lot to be desired. If you were a Sopranos fan you might get a kick out of this movie but that's the attraction.

So you pretty much hate all comedy TV shows? :D

I agree though, I hate laugh tracks. Studio audience laughs are fine, but I wish they would remove all laugh tracks.
