i am not surprised by it’s popularity but when I look at the top rated shows, I am out. I discovered a long time back that my taste in entertainment is not in concert with the majority and that is neither good nor bad, just my taste.

Most people are shocked when I tell them that I could never get into Seinfeld or Friends, two hugely popular sitcoms, because of my sense of humor. But I tried both, and just recently again, and 0 connection.

Like my favorite football team, ratings does not always mean great.
I agree with you about Seinfeld. I watched it, but never thought it was as funny as most people I know did. I found myself looking forward to the beginning only, when he showed a snippet of his standup. After that, there was only an occasional laugh for me, and a lot of the show was corny.......Friends, on the other hand is one of my all time favorites. I think once you get to know the characters better it gets funnier.

So you pretty much hate all comedy TV shows? :D

I agree though, I hate laugh tracks. Studio audience laughs are fine, but I wish they would remove all laugh tracks.

I do dislike almost all comedy shows because of it. Or it is the main reason.

If they did remove it, I think people would realize laughing at the jokes are a trained response

I think Seinfeld was more clever than funny. They looped plots

Yep, times and tastes can change which is why I gave Seinfeld and Friends another shot but nothing, not even a smile. But that's OK.

I know people that think The Office, Parks and Recreation and Community are lame, silly and stupid and I enjoyed them because they speak to that part of me. Not everyone can get into The 3 Stooges, Little Rascals, The Bowery Boys, Jerry Lewis, Jim Carrey, Will Farrell or Chris Farley.

What I have found is if a show doesn't hook me quickly, the law of diminishing returns sets in unless it is recommended by someone that I know their tastes and they know mine. It's like a restaurant recommendation. Take that from a stranger?

That's what happened with Breaking Bad. It moved a little slow to grab me but when it did, it had me. Same thing for The Wire. I was already predisposed to liking Better Call Saul because they had conditioned me.
I feel like you prefer comedies with no audience or laugh track. You don't like being told when to laugh. I don't mind a live audience, but the canned laughter is horrible.

Seinfeld and Friends are okay but not really my sense of humor. Ross' character really bugged the heck out of me so I can't watch it.

One of my favorite comedy shows is Rules of Engagement. It is one of those shows they could never put on TV these days, probably why I love it.
Ross was definitely an annoying character. Whiny, and not as intelligent as he thought he was...No way in Hell he ever gets a Rachel.

Rules of Engagement was pretty funny, though there are times I just wanna punch David Spade in the face.

I hated friends. Here is the format for every show.

Joey has one line with something dumb or about women, laugh track

Chandler has one sarcastic line, laugh track

Monica has one neurotic line, laugh track

Phoebe has one air head line, laugh track

Etc.
Repeat
End of show

If you only watch the show listening for laugh track it is insane. Same with most shows like that
Live audience, I believe.

Sometimes it was clever, but Kramer, George, Newman, Elaine...Yeah, pretty much everyone but Jerry never had a clever line. They were just over the top, putting themselves in stupid situations nobody with an IQ above 90 would put themselves in.

I searched for it, and it said it was a combination. My guess would be they play laughter and the crowd laughs with it, or is told to laugh or applause with signs. I haven't watched it in a long time, and i only did because my sister had the remote, but I remember it being horrible, and that it sounded the same

Probably laugh tracks when they're not on set, in one of the apartments, or Central Perk. Any street scenes and things like that.

I loved Rules of Engagement. It's a bummer there were only 4 seasons.

I am fairly certain they added laugh tracks in post while editing :D

They did have a studio audience though and they could have just recorded those, which the video below removes as well.

Not to say they didn't add additional laughter tracks, but there was definitely a live audience. During the Friends Reunion Special, there was a part where the crew shared experiences with each other about taping in front of a live studio audience. Mathew Perry talked about his anxiety when he would tell a joke and the crowd wouldn't laugh or respond strongly.

Also, in the background of that 'Friends Without A Laugh Track' video clip, the announcer mentioned a Boise State score. :D

When they offered MASH on DVD, they offered that as an option on the Menu of every disc. The difference when eliminating the laugh track was very noticeable and made each episode, until they removed that from the series, much more enjoyable.

I do not like sitcoms for that reason and many of them use the same stock laugh tracks. I had a client in LA that embellished VHS tapes before they were made ready for sale and he had every stock laugh track and he said the most popular one has that woman with the laugh louder than the others trailing off at the end. He said they actually called it Laughing Woman laugh track.

Watched the first half-season of Discovery. Enjoying this season though didn't realize they were splitting it up. Maybe they did that for previous seasons. I didn't watch any of 1-3 until after they were complete.

I watched the first episode of Star Trek Prodigy. I thought it was ok and I will probably watch the rest at some point though I don't have an "I got to watch the next episode right now" feel for it.

Book of Boba Fett is really good so far.

Just curious for any non-premium Youtube watchers do you watch or skip ads? Depending on the channel I will with the 6-15 second ads. Maybe even a 30 second. Once it starts getting to the 1 minute and up I will skip. Especially the 10-30 minute infomercial.

I think I have the first four seasons of MASH on DVD in storage, so I will have to check that out at some point.

Prodigy is a kid's show. I didn't realize that at first.

It had more of a Star Wars feel to the characters. I didn't like it at all.

I kept being bombarded with commercials for it while watching Discovery and that’s the impression I got. ‘They’re trying to market Star Trek to kids (again)’.

I have no interest.
