Started watching Stranger Things and I probably going to quit, 3 episodes into season 3. It doesn't seem very original anymore. The characters keep doing the same thing over and over again and the plot doesn't seem to be going anywhere.
I was enjoying the show and anticipating a really cool twist but then...
Episode 7 happened and in it they explained the purpose of The Institute. It's the moral dilemma. If you knew someone was going to do something really bad in the future, would you kill him? Its also the same problem as going back in the future and killing someone like Hitler as a baby. Of course this same question was introduced in The Minority Report with Tom Cruise. Only in that movie they didn't kill people, they just imprisoned them so they couldn't do what they were going to do in the future. Nor did they kidnap and kill kids - and their parents and anyone else that got in their way.
Interesting moral question, but I was a bit disappointed that The Institute didn't have a better motive. Even aliens controlling the government would have been more interesting - although that one was done already too.

Yeh I have been watching it and it has been good.
Nothing ground breaking but an a fun watch for the most part.
Characters you like, a character you want to see get beaten, and others in-between.
Originally I thought they were full of it when telling the kids it was to help save the world. I thought it was just basic use of the government taking out enemies they could not get to...like trying to take out Fidel Castro for a regime change. So it was a bit of a change to do it for the reasons they mentioned. However that reminded me of the movies Wanted and Paycheck.

I only got though E1 so far. I am not used to watching commercials. Even though I am recording the episodes and forwarding through the commercials it is still annoying.
Looks like an interesting storyline so far. But can someone explain to me why the space ship has CRTs with text based UIs in the year 2150?
Realistic or not, they're just copying the tech from the first movie when Atari and Radio Shack was all people had to go off. LOL. I like it. Sort of a modern steam punk charm to it.

I figured that's what they were trying to do, and honestly the slow displayer of text characters clicking onto the monochrome screen one by one has a kind of horror movie creepiness to it.
Cringeworthy as always, but you know that going in.
Have a few ideas to better the show:
All the participants on the show are generally attractive. If they really want to raise the stakes, they should sprinkle in a bunch of normal looking folks too (short, fat, bald, etc.). That would make the reveal part insanely interesting.
Prior to the reveal, when the man and woman are behind their respective screens (but you can see their silhouettes), they should give them an opportunity for an “out” where they can choose to bail based on what they think the person will look like.
