June first cut. Restructure some contracts , franchise leary

We don't have to restructure anything to release or trade him. We save 5 mill in cap space.

Why is it so hard for people to grasp this?

It'd be nice to at least get a 4th round or better draft pick. Seeing as either way were stuck with 19 mil in dead cap.

Oh so he won't eat up any of the Cowboys cap in 2017 if they cut him?

Aren't there any dead money implications?

Tony will be released. He will retire a Cowboy before the season starts. There are simply no real options.

Denver is saying that they are not interested in Romo, but don't believe that. Elway would be crucified if he went into next season with Siemien as his starter and Lynch still a greenhorn. Siemien is what he is.....a true 7th round pick and plays like one. Lynch needs some seasoning for next couple of years. Enter Peyton, I mean Tony and the Broncos are legit in the AFC West once again. Right now, the Chiefs and the Raiders are better.

Tony will be traded. Heck I would even settle for just changing #1 picks with Denver-----go up to #20. And a third round pick.
Not trying to split hairs here, but any 7th rd QB that ever even makes an NFL team, let alone starts most of the season, would never be a typical 7th rounder. That's very rare.
I think ideally they want Lynch to have a full offseason and make the jump--they drafted him with the goal to let him sit a year--and let Siemien be the backup.

But yes, I agree, Romo would be a massive upgrade over either of them short-term.

If we don't trade him, I'm keeping him. But that's me.

Releasing him, whether it's pre June 1 or post, you're still eating 20 mill in cap. A real turd sandwich. It's just whether you want to eat it all at once or save some for later.

I know it would be great to get a draft pick for Tony, but its more beneficial, if we cut him June 1st, besides teams know this. So my question is do we end up trading or releasing Tony??
Romo is not in the humiliation business, mates!
He does not want to be cut. He won't hazard a bad ending in Cleveland or Oakland or Denver. He does not want another injury to solidify his image as a fragile geezer.
My guess is he will retire before June 1.

Keep them and let them battle it out. Let the best man win. This team has proved it absolutely needs a qb to run properly, as our coaching staff can't make proper adjustments to win otherwise. If dak goes down we need to keep winning. No more Cassel cases. Yea, it's a business, but not mine soooo.... Lol

I think he's released unless we get an offer we can't refuse.

From what I see, we gain 14M in cap room if he is a June 1st cut. If we want to try to add talent into defense, 14M will help more than an extra 4th round pick.

I don't think it was ever really realistic to trade him when you look at the cap implications. I'm sure we will field some offers but if we are choosing between a mid round pick and an extra 10 million in cap space, take the space.
But what do you spend it on? The cap space only makes a difference is there is someone worth spending it on, and we haven't been spending money on days 1-3 of free agency.

I can't believe this day has finally come. I mean, I know nothing lasts forever, but it just seems surreal this day is actually here. I'll miss Romo in a Cowboys jersey. We had some good and bad times together.

Romo will be traded, there is no financial advantage to cutting him over trading him. And despite the posturing you read from other GMs, there are way too many teams with bad or mediocre QBs. They will give up a pick for a four time Pro Bowl QB, at worst a conditional pick based on playing time.

Most GMs are on too short of a timeline to start a Brandon Weedon.

Tony is not in the humiliation business, mates.
He does not want to be cut June 1.
He does not want to be a loser QB in Cleveland, Oakland or Denver dealing with a new system.
He wants to avoid another injury that will solidify his image as a fragile geezer.
Blimey! He will retire before June 1st and become our Danny White Lite.
