Good post...........I agree..........I think you may be right about these Tampa coaches and Gruden. I have to believe that Jerry and Stephen have had a private "what if" conversation at some point about Garrett not working out. Jerry is too good of a business man to not at least think about contingency plans.

Yeah, I have to think it came up at some level, even as the smallest of contingencies. I hadn't much bought into the Gruden rumors before, but in looking at both sides' needs, I can see how it would fit.

I think right now everybody is waiting to see how this thing plays out..............if we get eliminated for a 4th consecutive year from playoff contention, there is no way Jerry can sell Garrett to the fan base. Aikman spending the entire 2nd half tearing into Garrett about his game management was probably the stake through the heart for Garrett...........................when a Cowboy legend like Aikman basically calls you an idiot on national TV, going to be dam hard for the fans not to think the same way.

Yeah, this game was Garrett's death knell.

Whatever corners in which he still had support evaporated in that indefensible display of sheer incompetence.

He might have gotten somewhat of a reprieve due to the defense and it's injuries, but on Sunday, he showed that he is still all too capable of handing games away on his own.

After three plus years in the role, there are no more excuses to be made for him.

He just doesn't have it.

None of these name coaches are coming here. Their choices are to be somewhere where they're essentially their own boss when it comes to football matters, but they're going to give that up (or forego getting that elsewhere) in order to come work under the thumb of 2 rubes like Jerry and Stephen Jones? Jon Gruden can get a job almost anywhere and he's going to subject himself to a loudmouth drunk or his equally obnoxious son overriding him on draft picks and free agents?
Simply not going to happen. Has the last 20 years not taught you guys anything? Jones handed the keys over to Parcells and was then giddy to get them back. And it can't be said enough, Jones already admitted he did that to get Arlington to fork over $350 million or whatever it was.

No upper echelon coach is coming to Dallas unless he's also named GM or gets to hire his own GM. Elite coaches like Andy Reid, Bill Belichick, Nick Saban, or one of the Harbaughs would even consider coming to Dallas.

Sadly, if even the biggest, most blind homer would be honest about it, the fact that we can't get one of those guys shows how much of a handicap the Jones really are. The only kind of coach we're going to get is a retread like Lovie Smith, Bobby Petrino or John Fox, or some mediocre coordinator (Zimmer) or relative unknown assistant or college coach.

I fear you may be spot on with this post.

My God this fan base deserves better. Depressing part to me is that no matter WHOM he gets, this poop show will continue due to JJ and his kid. The quotes I've seen from his kid this year (don't like saying either of their names because I dislike them so much) gives me NO more hope he'd be any different than his old man.

Think about it, he idolizes him and emulates his every move. Looks like we are boned boys. The best we can hope for is that it all gets so bad they hire a real front office to fix it. Problem is, they did that with Parcells and JUST when things were getting better he started meddling again. BLANK you JJ

Question: Why would any good coach come into a situation where the quarterback at least appears to have so much contractual power over the offense?

Rhetorical question obviously. It would be one thing if Romo wasn't so selfish. The eternal 'gunslinger'....lol

I
I don't think there's any way in hell Lovie Smith would come here. I don't think any successful, experienced, HC would work for Jerry. Especially one who's taken a year off and has had time to observe this mess.

I think with His son and Marrinelli already here plus he's a Dallas Native too I believe is a hell of a selling point.

best post of thread....this is way more of a JJ problem than anyone else. Hate him

I agree. Jerry can bring Garrett back. He doesn't have to sell me because i'm not a season ticket holder and I prefer not to go to Jerry World. If Garrett is fired, it'll be for change's sake. Nothing will change until the old man realizes he's part of the problem.

He should know how good he is when he is our OC, if he didn't then he is not doing his job a GM.
So when he got the job with Saints, he didn't do enough to keep him (he did all he could to keep for JG).

Last year SP was willing to come to Dallas when his contract is voided, but Jerry didn't want to fight the Saints to hire him

Is it too early to talk about next HC? Or someone started this thread and merged with an existing threads?

My vote will be for Rex Ryan - who is strong willed and will probably stand up to Jerry and Romo

If he is not available, Lovie Smith or Dan Quinn?

Herm Edwards if he's available.

I could see Tom Coughlin also. If NY fires him, which I think they will, Cowher will become the new Giant coach. But I doubt Coughlin works for Jones.

You all will get Norv Turner with Dave Wannstadt as his defensive coordinator and like it!

I think the problem with the defense is not the coordinator or coaching staff, its the personnel. The 4-3 they run needs great linemen. The Cowboys had one maybe two with Hatcher. Yes Kiffin is old, but he isn't out of touch, he just needs better players and should still be there to help out as well and he is one hell of a coach. Now the offense and head coach issues are definitely related to the people who hold those jobs. I like Jason Garrett and think he was a pretty good coordinator, but he is not a good head coach. As my first choice, I would like to see him and Callahan replaced with Ken Whisenhunt and Russ Grimm. Second choice would be Darrell Bevell. Long shot Hue Jackson.

Mike Holmgren will be the next HC. Jones will try to recreate what he did with BP and Holmgren is the only guy that has some skins of the wall with multiple teams. It makes too much sense.

Two things:

1. It might be like parcels
2. It might be like Holmgren / Favre(Romo)

Because of #2, I don't want to give #1 a chance.

It may be the best we can hope for. Of course, JG may still be here another year so you never know. At the end of the day, I want the best coach available but I don;t know if we'll get one considering Jerry's hiring parameters.

I think Holmgren would be awful. Gruden too, really. We need someone strong in personnel to offset Jerry's band of clowns. Neither of those guys are and Holmgren has been out of coaching far too long.

I'd give OK ST Mike Gundy an interview. Not saying I'd hire him but if the interview went well, I might be intrigued enough to go for it. The guy has put together some pretty good teams and is in tune with the younger players and the style the younger players want to play.

Rex Ryan is a potential Candidate I like if Garrett is let go
Elevating Wade Wilson to OC so we could maintain the offensive scheme, I don't want to change the system Romo is so comfortable with this late in his career
Also maintaining Gary Brown, Wes Phillips, Matt Eberflus, Leon Lett, Rich Bisaccia, and even Chris Boniol would be nice

Rex would fix this defense making it a top 10 group. Plus I personally like his grit and fire, Dear God could we use some with this team.

Well his post game pressers sure would be entertaining!
