Why the heck would anyone want Mike Holmgren??? He was atrocious at talent evaluation for the Browns. No freaking way.

I can see Jerry trying to lure either Cowher or Chucky back and can't say that I'd be too upset with either.

My real #1 choice would be David Shaw from Stanford. Tough, defensive minded guy who has this wild and crazy game plan of running the ball.
Bill O'Brien would be my #2 college choice.

any coach who has no history whatsoever with the Dallas Cowboys........ no former coaches, players, cheerleaders, mascots, nothing.

I hope Gmen fire Tom Coughlin. We need a guy like Coughlin to kick some butt around here.

Yep, probably, because the MAIN problem will STILL be in Dallas.

So, your point is? Or, are you one of "them"?

my point is that changing out the HC resolves little and isn't really worth the energy to talk about. Far more important is finding leaders on field who can win critical games in spite of Jerry flawed approach.

I predict in a year from now, with a new Head Coach, we are having similar discussions again next year.

Depends on whether Jerry hires another coach that has no business getting the job. If he were to hire Lovie I think he is smart enough to avoid Garrett's endless coaching miscues.

Mike Holmgren will be the next HC. Jones will try to recreate what he did with BP and Holmgren is the only guy that has some skins of the wall with multiple teams. It makes too much sense.

That would not surprise me and to tell you the truth, I would be happy with Holmgren. He should have won the SB with two different teams if not for some of the most crooked officiating in the history of the game. It would be a HUGE improvement from Garrett (of course Campo would be a step up from Garrett. At least Campo had the excuse that the team was crappy). Garrett has done less with more than any coach I can remember.

Who should be or who will be?

Who should be the candidates:
1) David Shaw
2) Kevin Sumlin
3) Bill O'Brien

Who will be the candidates:
1) Lovie Smith (would allow Rod Marinelli to slide to defensive coordinator)
2) Mike Zimmer (familiarity breeds comfort)
2) Todd Bowles (I believe he interviewed for the position before)

Don't be surprised to see Norv Turner get an interview again. Barring Turner actually getting the job, I fully expect Jerry to pressure the incoming coach to hire Tony Sparano as offensive coordinator so that Romo doesn't have to learn a brand new system this late in his career.

Ha ha. He loathes Jerry.

He was a wide receivers helper for us for a few days in tc in 03 when parcells was here. He knows the situation.

Parcells was the last real coach we will have. Nobody is coming here to save the day.

What we should all be hoping is that maybe the city of Arlington will condemn AT&T stadium and say it has to be shut down for bad plumbing or something. Then we would get some real help again.

I agree with every word of this. Great post.

Would love to see any of the first three get the job.

Jerry is gonna look for change for change's sake. As mentioned earlier, he has no reason to turn everything over and let someone else take the reins. The ONLY reason he hired Parcells was to get his stadium built. That's it. He got what he wanted and went everything went back to normal.

We'll get what we ask for when Jerry hires some butt-buddy and goes out and picks his staff for him too.

There are a ton of options at offensive coordinator. It's the main guy, the hc that will get hired and should pick the coordinators.

I would love to see a bunch of type a personalities. Put together and allow them to go speak bluntly and play aggressive.

I just have this sinking feeling we are getting Zimmer and he will end up making his son the dc and zampese's kid the oc or something.

I would like a paring of holmgren-shurmur-Frazier or another dc who can actually coach this 43 Jerry insists we play.

Or some other really aggressive group like Jim Schwartz with Pete Carmichael and whatever dc Schwartz wants to run his defense.

If the Detroit staff gets fired, I love the idea of Scott linehan. I think he is a very good coordinator.

I would actually like the pairing of Schwartz-Carmichael-Keith butler.

I know none of this matters, but linehan, shurmur, butler and Carmichael all seem like quality coaches to me.

Don't know who should get it but I guarantee you Lovie and Gruden are near the top of Jerry's list

I sincerely believe Jerry's going for a vet this time around. I think it's going to be either Lovie or Gruden ( I hope not )

Very interesting option here... I did not think about his prior time in NE. OBrien and Romo working together would be successful because they would have a RUNNING game. He would put Romo into win every game on the last series situations. Lastly, I do not think the Dallas stage would be overwhelming to him. He seems pretty well grounded.

I'm all about Bill OBrien at Penn St. Has NFL background. Did amazing things with a horrible situation at Penn St. Hard nosed and no nonsense

I don't see any possible way that this team can win the division or any possible way that Jerry Jones can justify keeping Garrett around to the fan base. So let's assume the inevitable happens. Who is on Jerry's short list? Who SHOULD be on Jerry's short list?

Lovie Smith?
Mike Holmgren?
Jon Gruden?
Dan Quinn?
Darrell Bevel?
David Shaw?
Bill O'Brien?
Art Briles?
Ken Whisenhunt?
Leslie Frazier? (Okay, so maybe that one's troll bait)

David Shaw would be my first pick..............hard nose guy, likes his teams to play physical football, and also realizes that this is not Madden. He will not be calling 87 pass plays with a 3 TD lead.

Mike Holmgren would be great, but I worry about his age and if he is really that hungry to rebuild a team. The major positive is he would know how to manage Romo since he is basically Brett Favre Jr.

John Gruden............he loves Romo and would install a great offense. He has 5 playoff wins, including a SB win. He will also not stand on the sidelines and clap all game, he will get in your face if you screw up.

Ken Whisenhunt............Has done a great job in Arizona.

Lovie Smith.............this rounds out my top 5. He took a team with Rex Grossman at QB to the SuperBowl...............he can make chicken salad out of chicken ****.

The real question is...does the HC get to hire his own people and hand out the responsibilities/expectations of those hires?

IMO, this sick feeling in my stomach will just start to dissipate around February 15th and then Jones will make another bone-headed HC decision and bring all of the nausea back to me...the decision will either be to keep the entire coaching staff or to bring in some card-board cut out to run Jerry-world

My first choice would be Ken Whisenhunt. I think he's had quality offenses whenever he's had a good quarterback. And he's done a great job in San Diego.

That said, I don't think Jerry can get him.

What I think will happen is a 'name hire' - Jon Gruden.

Jerry will be able to 'sell hope' to what is currently a disillusioned fanbase and get the masses off of his back for a while and get the Cowboys name back in the headlines.

Gruden will get a $30 million payday and be set for life, no matter how things work out.

And from his perspective, I think he sees the talent that this team does have on offense. All he needs to do is to find a good defensive coordinator to completely handle that side of the ball (which he is not interested in).

I also can't help but think that the hiring of all of these former Tampa / Gruden coaches was done at least on some level as a contingency plan if things with Garrett didn't work out (as they haven't).
