1. He puts Romo in a west coast system and lets him build confidence with high percantage throws and we have a running game that can balance it out.

2. He has the "fire" to rein in Romo when he needs it.

3. Romo, according to his scouting report, should excel in a WC system and this Garrett crap relies on too much time that he rarely has against good pass rush teams.

Tony Romo #17 - 6'2" 220 lbs. - Eastern Illinois - Sp. 4.9 Rating 78
Smooth strong small college passer completed an excellent senior season at the Division 1 AA level that earned him the Walter Payton Award, symbolic of the level's best player. Tony completed a record setting career that included three consecutive Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Year awards in addition to numerous first team All-American teams. He is a fine athlete with a live arm and the ability to make all the throws. He has shown excellent accuracy, touch and timing as a passer with the ability to hit receivers in stride on a consistent basis. He has operated mainly from the shotgun and has decent setup technique when starting from under center. He has a very quick release with a smooth compact delivery that wastes little motion that allows him to get the ball off nicely when under pressure. He has a good arm with the ability to throw the short and intermediate passes exceptionally well. He needs some work on the deep ball with improved arm strength and better foot positioning necessary to increase his completion %. He has a good feel for pressure in the pocket with the mobility to avoid tacklers and make a good throw on the move. He makes things happen outside the pocket with the ability to hit receivers on the money. Over his career, he made nice strides in all areas of play, especially decision making. He goes through his progressions well with the quick decision making to deliver the ball to the right receiver at the right time. He has the complete makeup of an NFL starting QB - athletic, sound arm with the ability to make quick smart decisions consistently.
The Numbers: Over his career, he threw for 8212 yards passing with 85 TD passes on 584 completions of 941 attempts. He had a huge senior year, which earned him the Walter Payton award. He threw for 3165 yards on 258 completions of 407 passes for 34 TDs, which earned him high season honors. As a junior, he threw for 2068 yards on 67% completion rate for 21 TDs and 6 picks. He helped his cause with a good week at the Paradise Bowl, displaying an accurate live arm and nice mobility in the pocket. His strong final season earned rave reviews from NFL scouts about his passing talents and intangibles as a leader.
The Skinny: This guy may be the gem of this deep QB class. He is an ideal fit for the West Coast offense that emphasizes accuracy, mobility and quick decision-making. He has the triangle numbers NFL scouts seek in a pro prospect and he has the makeup to become a starter with further development and continued improvement. He has the talent to surprise over time and may be the best small college passer since Kurt Warner. He needs further coaching and playing experience especially working under center and making adjustments while setting up in the pocket. At the combine, he ran a 5.0 forty, had a 30 vertical jump and an 8'9 broad jump. He is a talented prospect with the tools to start, but most likely a 2nd day selection in this deep QB class. He is a quality 3rd string NFL passer with excellent upside potential. This guy should emerge as an NFL starter in time with proper coaching and some patience. Excellent middle round prospect with the ability to shine in a West Coast offense.
Draft Projection: 5th-6th Round

If the WCO is the best thing for Romo give me Holmgren over Gruden any day.

Yeah, lets get a guy who single handidly destroyed more QBs then one can count on two hands. That would really finish off Romo for good, if he is not already:bang2:

Don't know if Holmgren has the same intensity as Gruden, if anyone heard Gruden on MNF when we played the Panthers he certainly sounded like he wanted the HC job bad!

I'm inching closer to the Gruden camp every day but I won't be surprised or disappointed that it ends up as Holmgren.

You know of any QBs that Gruden Developed? Then I will tell you how many QBs he ruined. The guy can never find a QB he likes, well other than Gannon. Not to mention lot of his Ex-players plain hated his guts.

I just am not on the bandwagon on getting a retread coach. I really am not. I'd rather go out and get a young and proven coordinator that has ambitions and determination to be a coach in this league. I didn't see the Jets or Ravens go out and get a retread. Nor did I see the Steelers go out and get one after Cowher left.

:hammer: But unfortunately with Jerry, he doesn't have the guts or vision to do that. Even if he did, I am pretty sure he will select another Dud. I just simply have no trust in Jerry the GM to get a competent HC.

Whoa whoa whoa. Tomlin to me is a guy riding the success of Dick LeBeau, Pit has managed to be a Top D yr after yr because of that D.

He did turn Gannon from journeyman to Pro Bowler.

He hasn't developed many Qbs because he's almost always had a vet at the position.

I think he'd do ok with Romo beyond that it's a mystery. I can admit that Holmgren has been better in that regard but I'm worried about his age (62)

What has he done that's so special, besides live off of that "Chucky" mantra the media pundits have given him!?? I know someone will say he won a SB, but so did Barry with us in '95! Gruden... no way!!

Gruden is terrible. He was let go because he lost the lockerroom in Tampa.

Thats because he held onto older players and didn't give the young guys a chance. It could wind up the same here in Dallas if he comes here but I think what we really need is a WCO for Romo period.

Yeah, Gannon played better after Gruden left, i..e took the Team to SB. He has Tim Brown and Jerry Rice, please, thats not turning anyone to Pro-bowl.

Besides like someone here pointed out, he really lost the team with Bucs. He is the one who let the team almost guranteed playoff spot disappear. Same with Shanahan.

And what has Mike Holmgren done after the SB appearance? Sick of these re-tread coaches and somehow fans thinking all Cowboys need is coaching change and somehow the mediocre players or the player culture here in Dalas is going to change.

As long as Jerry is calling the shots and hiring the coaches, this team has no chance. I would love that to be proven wrong, but I have tried to be optimistic, but done with that. Until proven otherwise, this team is done. It will be an average team because of they have enough talent.

Romo will never be an elite QB and I never thought he would be in first place. He is an average to above avg qb. He doesn't suck, but he is not elite. He is more like Donovan McNabb I think, without the playoff victories.

Give me Holmgren then.

He went to the SB with Hasselbeck.
