"We laughed at the Giants for the Harris contract but he at least put a win in their win column"
This. I was not laughing. One of the few I got right. His last year was not his best and most wrote him off however he has been one of the more consistent players we have had over the last 5 years. He was a beast on all ST units, he rarely gets hurt and his heart and desire to play football at any position cannot be replaced. His contract $$ (which was well deserved and costly) would have paid for itself as a veteran with all our ST units and another darn capable receiver esp. with what we have now.

You couldn't justify giving Harris that contract as a number 4 or 5 receiver. Cowboys should've went out and got a kick returner. Mind you people want that thrilled with Harris here as a returner anyway but let's rewrite history I guess.

I think your right but doesn't JG say that "they want and welcome competition at all positions"?

Romo is a top 10 quarterback in this league and coming off his best year. What on earth type of controversies would be created by bringing in a backup? A

Actually he got $3 million
Looks like a 2 mill cap hit.

The Baltimore Ravens signed quarterback Matt Schaub for one year, $2 million ($1 million base salary and $1 million signing bonus), according to ESPN Stats & Info. The breakdown is $2 million guaranteed and an additional $1 million that can be earned through playing time incentives.

By my calculations, Schaub is 11th among most expensive backup quarterbacks based on 2015 payouts. He is the highest-priced backup for the Ravens since Marc Bulger made $3.8 million in 2010. The Ravens are paying Schaub more than three times what they gave last season's backupTyrod Taylor, who earned $645,000.

Schaub's $2 million cap charge is 14th on the Ravens in 2015. It ranks one spot behind kicker Justin Tucker ($2.356) and one place ahead of linebacker C.J. Mosley ($1.997 million).

So you want essentially no one? What coach is going to win consistently without their starting quarterback and their best player on the team? All I ask is for guys to fight. To expect them to win without Romo is just not happening. Now if you want to get upset about them not having s Pro bowler behind Romo then fair enough. I'm not asking Garrett or anyone to win with Brandon Weeden. He's the worst quarterback in the league.

Belichick won several games with Matt Cassel. Mike Tomlin is getting by with Michael Vick and Landry Jones. Also, didn't Garrett sign off on Weeden?

I don't think it's impossible to win a few games without your best players, especially when you have leads in 3 of those games.

I know, I know. Garrett isn't responsible for that. Yet, somehow he's responsible for 12 wins?

In Romo We Trust.

Really, i'd have just brought in Cassel sooner and picked up James Jones. That's about it.

man just look at his poor effort on the tackle at the 56:10 mark. hardy had a right to get into his ***.

Saddest part is, he gets up all pumped like he made the tackle. What do the coaches/players say about that in the film room? "Hey Carr, nice effort and good to see you didn't get the uni dirty on that play".

No, the saddest part is it's the new guy chewing them out.

I agree with you. I truly think they were worried about TR's confidence several years back. I don't think that applies today. Recently, they were just over confident that TR would stay healthy with the run game we had last year. And if he did get scuffed up, it would be a game or two.

What quarterback would challenge Romo lol? Cassell is a legit backup. Good quarterbacks aren't in free agency.

Don't bother.
He's a hater now and always has been. Nothing can change that.
It's mind-boggling that someone could think anyone of those guys out there would challenge the guy that led the entire NFL in QB rating in both the regular season and playoffs last year.

Harris has already said the money was not the bottom line with him signing in NY. It was a factor, of course. he's not dense.
But he wanted to play more of a role on offense if possible. He said Dallas just wanted him to play special teams and be a blocking WR. He said he understood that but wanted more opportunities. NY promised him that.
He already has as many or more receptions this year than in any year with Dallas....and maybe 3x as many as last year.

James Jones is a vested vet which made him a free agent after being released. There was no way he wasn't going back to the Packers to start.

1. Crawford and Beasley's contracts are looking funny in the light. We laughed at the Giants for the Harris contract but he at least put a win in their win column. We should have also picked up the 5th year option on Mo. (Didn't realize it was 11 mill.)
I assume you know that 11M for Claiborne would have been a terrible idea. He is playing decent but he still has a lot of issues if you really break his down play by play. The picks plays that offenses are running on the Cowboys come in part because they can't mix coverage(s) with Claiborne or he will get confused. Teams know that they are almost always going to be in man coverage. It's a big advantage when a QB knows the coverage.

They should be able to get a better CB than Claiborne for 11M per season.

2. Chris Johnson begged to come here, we should have taken a flyer. He looks great in Arizona.
The Cowboys are averaging more rushing yards per game than AZ. He has a lot of yards because he has not been in a RBBC (Their other RB has had injury issues). Also they have not had a bye which puts his totals ahead of any RBs on teams that have had a bye.

3. We should have cut Weeden and signed Matt Schaub immediately after the season ended.
Matt Schaub...really? He is 34 and seemed to just fall off a cliff a couple of years ago. His QB rating the past 2 years has been 28 and 73.

4. Brandon Carr should have been forced to take a paycut. He got chewed out by Hardy for poor effort on a tackle on Vereen at the end of the 1st half. That dawg player in KC, never showed up in Dallas.
OK, I agree on this one. They probably would have had to cut him. I think they might have considered it at the end of training camp if Scandrick didn't get hurt. They can't force him to take cut but they could cut him. They did add Jones in the draft and signed White with Claiborne, Patmon, Scandrick and Carr already on the team. It does appear that the Scandrick injury prevented them from playing hardball with Carr. They didn't want to derail this season just to save money for 1 year on Carr's contract.

5. Sign Terrance Knighton and sign Justin Durant. JD had great chemistry with Ro, he was one of our best run defenders. Knighton signed for pennies with the Skins. Once we lost we lost T-Mcclain, we lost our only DT with size. This theory that we can just spin ends down is not working. Marinelli's stubbornness about the DT position is starting to frustrate me. Crawford and Hayden were getting pushed around like rag dolls on Sunday.
They had very good options at DT. T.McClain was likely going to play more snaps than Hayden if he had remained healthy. They had some young guys that flashed potential, both starter from last season and T. McClain who was indeed really good before his injury. Knighton is not Marinelli's type of DT. If you study the 1tech in Marinelli's scheme it requires more than just defending that small area around where the 1tech initially lines up. I'm not a big fan of Hayden and I would like to get a healthy version of T.McClain added to the team, but a big slug like Knighton is probably not the answer.

Durant is a high probability to get injured and he's not really much better is at all then Hitchens. Durant has already missed 2 games this season.

Giving Tyron "I got paid" Crawford a huge contract extension was a horrific mistake.

The dude was getting trucked by some no name scrub RB from the Giants..................I have seen 10 yr old kids in the pee wee leagues not get thrown around as much as Crawford did Sunday.

Just embarrassing.

Nope. Broaddus thought that initially but came back and said he was wrong on further review. He said the specific scheme nuances that were using put Crawford into a bad position at times but the Crawford was not really to blame.

You can't force someone to take a pay cut.

The Cowboys had a solid offseason. They upgraded 5 starters. You can't win them all.

Yes, they had to decide if they wanted to keep him or cut him. They might have tried to play hardball at the end of training camp but Scandrick injury probably kept them from doing it.

Signing James Jones. He was (A) cheap (B) A decent stand-in for Dez in the red-zone (C) Better than any of the Cowboys WR3-WR5

That might have been a good idea; although, a lot of WRs seem to really thrive in Green Bays scheme with their QB but don't do well when they go to other teams.

I wouldnt want him here after what I read in the summer that Terrell Suggs was making fun of him.
I found this tidbit from NFL.com:
Suggs is having fun with the team's No. 2 passer, but there's nothing funny about the prospect of Schaub playing. He ranked near the bottom of our backup quarterback rankings and hasn't looked like a functional signal-caller in two-plus seasons.
