Good post. I know it's used as a comedic line around here, but the team really has bought into "the process." They're looking to build a perennial contender in the mold of New England and Pittsburgh. It starts on the lines and with good middle round drafting. They've now properly invested in the lines so I think you'll see a lot more focus on the skill positions this year. We really lack explosion and depth at those skill spots. That will be addressed this offseason.
I agree. Our lines, outside of RT(hopefully Chaz Green develops), and DT (we really could use an above average 1T), are essentially set if we re-sign Hardy.
With the uncertainty at CB next season given Carr and Claiborne's status, I think it's a given that Carr is gone, our lack of talent/depth overall at the safety position with us having Church/Wilcox for another year, I wouldn't be surprised to see a secondary overhaul in the draft and possibly a cheaper FA signing before the draft begins.
We could also use another WR, just in case Dez has to miss time, we desperately need another guy that can keep defenses honest.
Which is why, even though it could be an opportune time to take a gamble, we might roll with Cassel as the backup to Romo next year and continue to develop the "team" around our eventual heir with BPA at interior DL, secondary, or WR. We've been pretty money on our first rounders lately, and the skill positions are hurting us.
I honestly wouldn't be surprised to see two DB's and a WR taken in the first 3 picks.
