Cowboys have Corey White, Scandrick, Patmon, Carr and Claiborne. That's more than enough at corner.

Scandrick and Claiborne as starters, slide Scandrick in the slot and bring Carr on the outside when we go 3 CBs

Don't bother.
He's a hater now and always has been. Nothing can change that.
It's mind-boggling that someone could think anyone of those guys out there would challenge the guy that led the entire NFL in QB rating in both the regular season and playoffs last year.

Well, that's the same guy who said Romo couldn't read defenses, so that ought to tell you something about his knowledge/agenda.

You couldn't justify giving Harris that contract as a number 4 or 5 receiver. Cowboys should've went out and got a kick returner. Mind you people want that thrilled with Harris here as a returner anyway but let's rewrite history I guess.

This is mainly it. It is the inability to replace players is what is making this season circling the drain. Along with turnovers and lack of getting turnovers, this team didn't replace Harris. He was a big contributor on special teams and not just returning punts, but covering punts. He was always the first down there to make the tackle and he was always disciplined in his lanes and assignment as well. I wouldn't justify playing him that much money for a 4 or 5 though. Even 3. But honestly, this team gets turnovers and stop turning the ball over themselves, we win a couple of these games.

Harris has already said the money was not the bottom line with him signing in NY. It was a factor, of course. he's not dense.
But he wanted to play more of a role on offense if possible. He said Dallas just wanted him to play special teams and be a blocking WR. He said he understood that but wanted more opportunities. NY promised him that.
He already has as many or more receptions this year than in any year with Dallas....and maybe 3x as many as last year.

He was not making a decision. It's not as if the Cowboys were offering him 12M and he had to decide between that and the 17M offered by the Giants.

His choice was 17M with the Giants or slightly over the veterans minimum from the Cowboys.

"Can't keem 'em all" is what Stephen Jones said about Harris. I agree that you can't keep them all, but when you replace them with lesser players it eventually shows. Lucky Whitehead is who essentially replaced Harris. On the other hand nobody is complaining about replacing George Selvie who started all games in 2013 and 13 in 2014 or Bruce Carter or Sterling Moore. Those roster improvements generally go unoticed.

True. I was fine with not bringing back Carter or Moore. I wish we could have kept Durant but having Lee, McClain, Hitchens, and Wilson should be more than enough. No need to mention Selvie obviously lol. I think the D-Line will get better as the year goes along. But I hollered with Beasley was returning punts even during the first game. I was like we don't have anyone better? I thought that's why we signed Lucky Whitehead.

We'll probably see Whitehead back there in the future. He fumbled in the first preseason game and they took him out. Hopefully if we make the playoffs Dez will be fielding punts. He's our best punt returner by a long shot.

The hate on Beasley is out of control right now. Defenses have been packing the middle and intermediate routes where he lives because our outside guys can't get open. Witten's production has taken a hit too. Beasley will be fine once Dez is back and teams can't pack the middle.

Really, of that list the only thing I would have liked them to do is bring in Knighton. He is making chump change and having his big body in there would have really opened things up, especially for Crawford.

Also, I agree with Walker, I think Carr probably gets his walking papers if Scandrick doesn't get hurt. I know he underwhelmed in the slot, but I think Patmon should be getting some snaps outside. He's got a big body and long arms. If we are going to play almost exclusively press or man, I prefer his ball tracking and tackling ability to Carr's.

All in all though, I think the front office had a great off season. Without the Dez and Romo injuries most of this list would be insignificant.

The fact is when you keep paying out big contracts to mediocre talent you end up with a weak roster. Dallas will be reaping the benefits of smart spending when they are in contention year after year.

man just look at his poor effort on the tackle at the 56:10 mark. hardy had a right to get into his ***.

In the live game also I thought , that's pathetic effort, also I don't understand Carr going low to trip running backs . Remember Demarco jumping on him ?

Good post. I know it's used as a comedic line around here, but the team really has bought into "the process." They're looking to build a perennial contender in the mold of New England and Pittsburgh. It starts on the lines and with good middle round drafting. They've now properly invested in the lines so I think you'll see a lot more focus on the skill positions this year. We really lack explosion and depth at those skill spots. That will be addressed this offseason.

I sincerely believe Carr has lost all his nerve. He has the most passive and lackadaisical attitude on the field. He used to be a fiery, in your face guy. He has lost all semblance of that. Once you lose that as a corner, you're just collecting paychecks.

I agree. Our lines, outside of RT(hopefully Chaz Green develops), and DT (we really could use an above average 1T), are essentially set if we re-sign Hardy.

With the uncertainty at CB next season given Carr and Claiborne's status, I think it's a given that Carr is gone, our lack of talent/depth overall at the safety position with us having Church/Wilcox for another year, I wouldn't be surprised to see a secondary overhaul in the draft and possibly a cheaper FA signing before the draft begins.

We could also use another WR, just in case Dez has to miss time, we desperately need another guy that can keep defenses honest.

Which is why, even though it could be an opportune time to take a gamble, we might roll with Cassel as the backup to Romo next year and continue to develop the "team" around our eventual heir with BPA at interior DL, secondary, or WR. We've been pretty money on our first rounders lately, and the skill positions are hurting us.

I honestly wouldn't be surprised to see two DB's and a WR taken in the first 3 picks.

They are giving lucky some time.... For his dreads to grow out. Once they are as long as Harris's dreads he will start. Thats my understanding of the memo sent from the FO to special teams coach.

Which has been pretty much nonexistent since Megatron annihilated him in that 2013 game. He hasn't been the same since.

I'd like to see the receiving corps become a little bit more physical overall. I understand teams need diversity, but as much as Dallas runs the ball, having WR's who can lay the pine can make the difference between an 8 yard run and a 20+ yard run. Dez obviously fits that mold, but when he's out...

1. Crawford and Beasley's contracts are looking funny in the light. We laughed at the Giants for the Harris contract but he at least put a win in their win column. We should have also picked up the 5th year option on Mo. (Didn't realize it was 11 mill.)
2. Chris Johnson begged to come here, we should have taken a flyer. He looks great in Arizona.
3. We should have cut Weeden and signed Matt Schaub immediately after the season ended.
4. Brandon Carr should have been forced to take a paycut. He got chewed out by Hardy for poor effort on a tackle on Vereen at the end of the 1st half. That dawg player in KC, never showed up in Dallas.
5. Sign Terrance Knighton and sign Justin Durant. JD had great chemistry with Ro, he was one of our best run defenders. Knighton signed for pennies with the Skins. Once we lost we lost T-Mcclain, we lost our only DT with size. This theory that we can just spin ends down is not working. Marinelli's stubbornness about the DT position is starting to frustrate me. Crawford and Hayden were getting pushed around like rag dolls on Sunday.

Marked you down for giving up. Will re-visit at end of year.

They attempted to. They thought Beasley, Dunbar or whoever were good enough to field punts. They signed a few guys strictly for special teams. Thus far it hasn't worked.

Is ARod going to throw the ball to him for BW or cassel?

Right. So people are going to act like Jones didn't suck in his last two destinations but goes back to the Packers and has his solid but inconsistent career once again revived.
