Lets talk about OL in this draft. We haven't done that much on this forum.

Let first talk about our current OL.
LT: Smith at LT is set for years to come
LG: This is where we could find a player early. Leary has potential but with his knee issues and just average play we could find some one better to help protect Romo blindside. Also Leary could play RG.
C: Frederick at C we are set for years
RG: we need to find a replacement here. We can bring back Waters and over pay Bernadeau for another year. We could also draft a true LG and move Leary to RG but again we need a young player to look to the future. Leary I like but scars me with that knee.
RT: Free played better last year but this is his last year in Dallas. He will be a 7 million cap savings when cut next offseason. Also getting older we need to find his replacement.

Yes even at 16 I am perfectly fine drafting OL at 16 if the player is BPA. My two favs for pick 16 is Donald and Pryor which I think everyone knows. But I have also stated only if they are BPA when we pick. If a OL is rated higher I am fine drafting a OG or RT.
Also a trde back like last year and add another late 1st OL would be ideal also.
My problem with drafting a OT in the 1st round is this class has depth at OT and any OT we draft most likely will not replace Free year one due to the cap hit we face by releasing Free. I would love to look for a RT that can play swing OT and back up for his first year to develop into a long term replacement for Free at RT.

Here are my ratings and where I see them fit for Dallas also using round CBS round projection.
The ratings and round projection will change after the combine
1st round
Greg Robinson
this is your perfect RT. he scares me as a day one LT since he played in a Auburn read option offense. He will not make it to 16.
Jake Matthews A true LT who will also be gone by 16
Taylor Lewman this player might be around at 16. Great player, played LT most of career at Michigan. t would be hard for him to sit behind free for a year so don't see Dallas going OT at 16 unless they take the cap hit and release Free.
Zack Martin This gut is a OG only in my eyes and might be the best LG in the draft. He would be a great pick at 16
Cyrus Kouandijio A true RT at the next level. Bit strong long arms. Very physical player that is dominate in run blocking.
David Yankey A true LG with a strong punch and great leg work. Long arms also. Really like this player.
Xavier Su'a Filo might be the best fit at LG for Callahan scheme. Very fluid and can get off his block to get to the next level.

2nd round
Morgan Moses
big, real big player with good feet. Long arms and can great in run blocking.
Antonio Richardson I live in Nashville and been watching this kid since his Junior year at Ensworth High School. Big strong(36 reps) with long 35 inch arms. Not a true LT in the NFL and struggles with his weight, a little heavy but still has great feet. Also very long arms and a powerful punch.I would love to draft this guy late 1st or 2nd round.
Gabe Jackson a true RG as he is a dominate road grader in the run game and holds his ground on a bull rush with his size.
Billy Turner I love this kid. A great small school sleeper that work up at the senior bowl. great feet and very long arms and great at mirroring pass rushers. Only problem is handling the bull rush from bigger players. He needs to get stronger but sitting a year and learning can give him that time to get ready.
Jack Mewhort another physical player that can be a steal in the late 2nd. Most years I think he is a early 2nd round pick. Just this year is loaded with OT talent.

3rd round
JaWaun James
This guy has it all but quick feet. His footwork is raw but with a year to develop that can be coached.
Brandon Thomas played LT for 2 years at Clemson but will be a LG in the NFL. A true LG with OT feet. Also Amazing strength(35 reps)

My Sleepers
Kadeem Edwards
who I have seen play at TSU the last two years. I think he can be a true RG with arms length of 34.5 inches. He needs to add strength but could be a back up OG and develop to step in and replace Leary if needed to.
Michael Schofield played RT at Michigan. Very Raw but a guy that could develop into a RT in a few years but I don't know if we have more than a year to get a player ready.
Seantrel Henderson you want to talk big this is it. I don't know if he fits what Dallas runs but he has potential and sometimes you can't pass on great potential late int he draft
Cornelius Lucas Another big strong player that played LT in the college but is a true RT in today NFL. Another that have potential that would be hard to turn away from late

Love James and Thomas in the 3rd. Thomas would be my #1 target because of how versatile he is.

Also like the value of Steen in the 3rd/4th and I think Spencer Long could also be a steal, even if he isn't ready for the 1st few weeks.

Joell Bitonio is another college LT who could make a nice transition to guard or possibly RT.

I really like Brandon Thomas and Filo. Both are really good fits for what we like to do. Would be happy with Martin in the 1st as well.

Yeah, I love Brandon Thomas too. Probably my pet cat in this draft. He moves so well. When all is said and done, I think he's a second rounder.

OL is clearly a strength in this draft. We would be wise to pick up someone like Thomas--who would start at G and maybe take over at RT when Free is gone

This is a deep draft for OT but I'm not sure that it's a very deep draft for G/C. There are maybe 5 OGs in the top 100 and maybe 3 OCs in the top 100. As of now, there are maybe only 3 players at both positions in the top 50. I think there will eventually be at least 4 but still, that's not all that deep IMO.

Now, OT is a different story. There are probably twice as many OTs then both G or C combined available. That position is very deep but not interior OL IMO. I'm not seeing it.

There are tackles who can play guard, too. I'd love for Morgan Moses to be there in the second. He can play any position on the OL but C.

I'd like to see us draft a top rated guard on day 2 or early day 3, as well as with a later pick. I think the OL as it is has gelled as a unit and that is saying something in this Calahan system. It takes a while so you keep that unit the same as long as you can if it is doing its job. I think you can have Waters as an emergency call-up but otherwise off the roster which is probably what he wants too. Weems may be ready to be the swing tackle over Parnell. Drafting a swing OT to come in and compete makes sense. Costa is pricey so let's replace him with a G/C.

Thomas might have moved up a round. His measurables are terrific.

Lol this thread. If Dallas picks a OL before round 4 ill be pissed. they need depth that can develop to a starter. You can get those later in the draft

They are 1 injury away from Phil Costa starting. Both Leary and Bernadeau have had injury issues in the past.

Yeah someone is going to take Thomas at a tackle in the 2nd...too bad because I think he would make a perfect LG for us.

I would like to see a trade down in the 1st for an extra 3rd or 2nd. There are a lot of really good players in the 2nd/3rd in the draft, IMO.
