Parchy thanks for the info although I am not excited about this hire in the least

Mister Parchman does happen to write for the official website, I would trust he is more reliable than your average poster who claims "insider" status.

They get 2 weeks to exclusively work a new deal, unless of course they give permission for him to work a deal elsewhere.jps_tex;1360728 said:It is my understanding that Rivera's contract was up as of last night, imediately following the superbowl.
He's played AGAINST them Inman. Loophole 101.InmanRoshi;1360734 said:I hardly see how he's qualified for any role on the Cowboys staff. Sure, he's probably put up the best defense in the NFL the last two years combined, but he hasn't played or coached here before.

abersonc;1360754 said:no, contracts last until 3 weeks following the final game the team plays.
Idgit;1360762 said:Most of what's been reported is that the contract expired after the Superbowl, and that the Bears had an option period of three weeks of exclusive negotiating rights, should they choose to exercise it. Obviously, the team can walk away from a coordinator if they choose to and he'd be free to negotiate with another team.
Jerry will just say that it was a legitimate hc interview(Rivera is a legitimate HC candidate among nfl circles), and that once Norv was hired as HC, that he(Norv) decided who he wanted as DC and sought out Rivera once he was available. I can't see Chicago having a case unless Rivera admits that the HC interview wasn't kosier.JFlgn;1360792 said:Basically this is correct.
The contract is up but the Bears have the option of using three weeks to negotiate a contract w/ Rivera. If Jerry wants to interview him as a defensive coordinator before the end of the three weeks then he must get permission from the Bears. If they give him permission then he can hire him at any point.
However, if Jerry wants to interview him for head coach, the Bears can't deny him the right to interview or hire. But if Jerry wants to interview him for head coach w/out permission of the Bears and then hires him as defensive coordinator then he can fully expect tampering charges.
As for whether the Bears gave him permission or not and what Rivera is interviewing for, I got nothin'.
