Old Rumor: Done deal with Rivera?

Didn't the league banish the term *Assisant Head Coach*? It's a joke anyhow.

This makes as much sense as the Gibbs/Saunders/Williams triumverate with similar results anticipated.

Jerry and a 3-headed coaching monster means we are back to business as usual, i.e., (post-Jimmy and pre-Parcells).

us having Norv as HC, Rivera as DC and Garrett as OC is an example of pre-Parcells days?

sorry...I dont see that at all

Someone I know who is "in the know" just told me there is a deal in principle with Rivera to come on staff as an assistant HC/DC and he will be tossed into the mix for HC with Norv and Jason as well.

More importantly, he said Ronnie boy will be bringing the 4-3 with him. Stay tuned.

These "insider reports" are getting funnier and funnier:lmao2:

I don't think there is any done deal. When the deal is done it will be announced until then rumors will continue.

Jerry as GM WITHOUT a clear, strong presence at the HC position is DISASTER! If that isn't understood by the fans and followers of this team, it never will be.

Sorry, but I don't count NORV as a "clear, strong presence" at the HC position.

Parchy is Will Parchman who has done some writing as an intern for DC.com. When he says he has sources it would be best to listen as unlike you he actually does have contacts within the club.

What he said.

It is my belief that this coaching search is good evidence that Jerry is much improved from the "post-Jimmy" days. We may not win with whoever Jerry ends up picking, but Jerry HAS improved. He always wanted to win. Now he is trying to do it the right way.

Basically this is correct.

The contract is up but the Bears have the option of using three weeks to negotiate a contract w/ Rivera. If Jerry wants to interview him as a defensive coordinator before the end of the three weeks then he must get permission from the Bears. If they give him permission then he can hire him at any point.

However, if Jerry wants to interview him for head coach, the Bears can't deny him the right to interview or hire. But if Jerry wants to interview him for head coach w/out permission of the Bears and then hires him as defensive coordinator then he can fully expect tampering charges.

As for whether the Bears gave him permission or not and what Rivera is interviewing for, I got nothin'.

Exactly, which is why Jerry is interviewing him for HEAD COACH. There is no way the Bears are going to give Dallas permision to hire him as a DC within their allotted interviewing time period.

It's about time someone raised this point

I guess the fact that Rivera hasn't even interviewed yet makes this just that...

A rumor...

Do you honestly believe no contact has been made between the 'boys and Rivera's people, though? There had to have been conversations in order to even set up the interview in such a short time; even as it relates to determining the type of interview being held. Gotta get past the idea that everything has to be done face-to-face.

As has been mentioned already in this thread, it's not like Parchy is one of those guys who pulls stuff out of his butt. So anything he posts regarding certain things has a lil bit more cred attached to it.

Its looking more and more that Turner is the guy and the reason they have not announced it, is that if they do, then they cannot meet with Rivera until February 20th. This way, they get to interview him for the Head Coach spot, but in reality its an audition for the DC.

Didnt Switzer not have an interview when he was hired?

Barry Switzer had a thirty year interview, so to speak. Besides, Jerry was worried that if they meet face to face, Barry might get caught gun running on his way to Dallas and that would only serve to delay the process more.

:D

That may very well be the case but to suggest that Rivera is fully aware that Dallas is only interviewing him for a DC position doesn't seem likely. Also, stranger things have happened with interviews. See Mike Tomlin, Andy Reid!

I know Russ Grimm was the "leading candidate" to be the Steelers head coach after Whisenhunt wento Arizona. In comes Mike Tomlin and he eventually gets hired as their head coach....why?......because he interviewed well.

My favorite was when Bill Parcells hired Maurice Carthon as his "offensive coordinator" and then hired Sean Payton as his QB coach. The media never referred to Carthon as the OC that entire season despite his title. And then the following year Carthon was moved to "assistant head coach" and then eventually he was gone from the organization altogether. I still laugh when fans used to argue that Parcells never used to hire friends or players out of loyalty only. LOL Carthon was a perfect example of that

Let's see if the initial premise of this thread turns out accurately.
