They would have a case if Jerry hired him for defensive coordinator before the free 3 weeks of contract negotiation the Bears are entitled to had passed.

Nobody can hire him as defensive coordinator until those mandatory 3 weeks have passed even though technically his contract expired after the Super Bowl.

Someone I know who is "in the know" just told me there is a deal in principle with Rivera to come on staff as an assistant HC/DC and he will be tossed into the mix for HC with Norv and Jason as well.

More importantly, he said Ronnie boy will be bringing the 4-3 with him. Stay tuned.

Your lame they have not met yet that person in the know might just be a janitor at espn.

Parchy is Will Parchman who has done some writing as an intern for DC.com. When he says he has sources it would be best to listen as unlike you he actually does have contacts within the club.

I don't know why it is so far-fetched to believe this rumor. Rivera has made it clear that he is very interested in working for the Cowboys and JJ has a seasons worth of film to judge him on. Plus, I have no doubt that Turner has told JJ everything he needs to know about Rivera. I could see them reaching an agreement via telephone conference.

Thanks for the info Parchy. Out of all the candidates and problems with building a good staff, this actually makes the most sense. Norv comes on and the Joneses watch Garrett and Rivera to see who wins the heir apparent label. An old hand at the top and two aggressive coordinators. We could do worse.

It's remarkable that we have someone on this board who actually knows something (or at least is hearing rumors that make sense). Many of our more emotional members resemble the old adage:

When in danger or in doubt
Run in circles, scream, and shout.

We are doing that a lot around here lately.

Norv would have to come here as HC because the Niners arnt going to let him leave as an offensive coordinator or any other asst level coach

if they have a "deal in principle" then its almost assuredly as a DC, because to our knowledge he hasnt been formally even spoken to, and its highly doubtful Jones would make an offer for him to be HC without having a long sit down with him first

David

The saving face gesture and opportunity carrot may be making Rivera DC and assistant HC. Of course Garrett was touted as a head coach in training, perhaps the best coaching effort or competition wins should Turner retire in 2 or more years.

Is this the same cowboyed from the Hutch/Quincy wars over at the Ranch? Welcome.

I'd be much more comfortable with Rivera as DC. Not looking forward to the growing pains of switching defenses again, but nothing's worse than making a DC run a defense that he's not comfortable with, right, Cowboys?

If you've got Garrett and Rivera at the coordinator spots, I'd rather have Singletary at HC. Let the coordinators do all the X and O'ing, and let Mike kick *** - err, motivate players.

Sorry, other than being a good tutor for Garrett and Romo, I don't see what Norv brings to the table.

The one thing I have learned to expect from Jerry Jones is the unexpected. With all these reports and rumors,, claiming that Norv is the HC here,, I just got a feeling he will do the unexpected here and name someone else the HC this week. Maybe its just wishful thinking, But one's gotta have faith, right?

funny b/c all the talk was that he hasnt met with them yet , and would meet tues or wed.

unless they did it on the phone, highly unlikely.

They don't have to meet right away to know, or even agree, to the parameters of a contract. Nick Saban is the latest example of that. Usually the agent is meeting " unofficially " with the interested party either directly or through back channels.

It's very plausible that deal is indee done.

Tis I flashback, where have you been all these posts. I am a 2 board poster. It appears you have slowed down a bit. What you have more relevant things to do in life?

Anyway, I would like to see Rivera here. I am starting to warm up to the idea of Norv from the standpoint that he could make this offense more purposeful and help groom Garrett and Romo. Even though our offense ranked 5th? in points scored it certainly didn't translate to much. Then I realized that how much you score isn't as profound as when and how you score. Purpose points create wins.

My only question is: How is the deal done right after the superbowl?

Come on, that's tampering, cause Jerry Jones aint allowed to talk to him yet. Do yall know the rules of football?

All day today it's been bogus rumors about contacting him, not contacting him,etc...

You have 2 ESPN channels giving conflicting reports almost at the same time...

For once a legitimate story would be nice...

FWST says Rivera is interviewing today

it isnt that far fetched...maybe Norv told him that Jerry has signed off on making him one of the highest paid coordinators in football, and Rivera said yes...

you just dont know with these things
