When asked if the Cowboys need to sign a guard, Stephen was quick to point out, "we've got a guard" referring to newly-signed veteran Chuma Edoga, who has experience playing both tackle and guard. "We feel good about him," Jones added.

OT
Earlier in the day, Jerry Jones said he views Terence Steele as a swing tackle for now. When asked to Stephen, he had a vague answer, stating "I think it's the five-best guys. At the end of the day. Mike's always preached that you know. It's early. We got a new offensive line coach. He gets them out there and gets his hands on em and sees what they can do. We'll figure out what are the best five guys and what makes us the best football team for 17 games plus hopefully the playoffs."

I don't have much confidence in Edoga right now. Maybe he can convince me in training camp and pre-season. But it does bring up the point again that they seem hesitant to move Tyler Smith inside. It would be a shame to take Terence Steele off the field.

I have the feeling that Edoga is a typical, serviceable vet that the Cowboys hope to upgrade in the draft, but could start in a pinch.

I think our 2023 Oline will look like this:

OT: Smith, Smith, Steele, Waletzko
OG: Martin, Draft pick, Edoga, Farniok
C: Biadasz, Farniok

Depending on the pick, this could be a pretty good, deep line.

Ultimately I think its going to be Tyron at LT, Steele at RT and Tyler at LG. Steele appears as if he will be ready for TC

The plan is to draft an interior offensive lineman in either the first or second round.
Really not a guy that screams out to me in the draft. For me to draft a guy an interior OL the first round, that guy needs to be elite. There isnt that guy in the draft. Im not a big fan of the day 2 guys unless Avila falls to 56, which is very unlikely.

At OT in the NFL he is known as a plus run blocker that had some issues in pass blocking.

Moving a player from OT to OG normally improves his pass blocking (Nate Newton, etc..).

This makes the most sense to me. I know some don't want to move Tyler back to guard when he is going to eventually be the LT but he has already proven he can handle it.

He is probably a better OG than Farniok. Farniok is probably playable at OG against half of the NFL, but I dont think you want in the lineup against top tier interior defensive lines. He is probably best as your #4 OG than can play all three interior spots. Edoga is probably a better start at either G spot of you have an injury

Antonio Mafi is another guy to look at

I don’t see why you’re so high on Avila, when to draft magazines have him raided much lower. One magazine has him at seventh best and 4th round and the other has him at eighth best and the 3rd round.

Ocyrus Torrence is the best rated in both magazines. Andrew Vorhees is the second best rated in both magazines. John Schmitz is the 3rd rated in both magazines.

My favorite is the guard from Alabama. Emil Ekiyor Jr. 6’ 3 and 324 lbs. but if Torrance, is there an hour pick who 6’5 347 you got to take him.

Most if not all places have Avila in the top 50

All signs point to the Cowboys targeting a Guard round 1 or 2 of the draft, but they refuse to lock themselves into having to reach for any position. Oline as a whole is obviously a position group that they can upgrade, but also have enough to get by, health depending.

I think they are managing this the right way. They probably believe a G they like will be there round 1, but also wont pass up a player who falls because they have to get a G. It really is the beauty of this offseason. They have several positions they can upgrade, but no huge obvious hole they have to address with a plug and play starter on draft day.

I think there is no way to know what the plan is at guard till after the draft. I like they said we have our guard myself. Makes it a bit easier to draft a guard if teams behind you don’t think you’re looking guard. In any round if a center or guard is the best player they should take them. A guy who plays both is even better. Biadasz is a FA and Farniok is only other center
To me Tyron should be swing once Steele is ready. Keeps Tyron healthy for when you need him. It’s rare you get through 17 games with your whole oline so be prepated

If they draft an interior OL in the first 2 rounds, I prefer one than can play both OG and OG.

I don’t care who starts week 1 but Steele should see plenty of snaps to keep Smith fresh and hopefully injury free. They should both play roughly half the snaps.
