Yes it is a rule but rarely if ever is it enforce. That being said Wanabach said after the game, she was counting the seconds out loud in full ear shot of the ref. She said that she did this several times because of previous games with Canada and she knew their stall tactics. She said the ref did warn the Canadian keeper several times and she acknowledge the warning by puttin up her hand. The Canadian coach was not upset about what Wanabach did and said maybe our playeres can learn from it.

Canadians are really only good at hockey, telling people they're Canadians and whining. I'm glad it was a Norwegian that screwed them

They need to learn to flop like the rest of the world when stalling

If we are only good at that, it is still more than Norwegians except when it comes to being collaborators.

...clear the Canadian keeper was holding onto the ball a little longer than allowed.

What I feel the ref should have done is made a bigger show to the keeper and instruct her that the next infraction would result in a penalty. Actually stop the play and have a open discussion with the keeper. This way no one can question you on your intent or be surprised about it.

It was a close game. Don't insert yourself into the outcome of the game. Clearly warn the player and let her make the decision on how she would affect the outcome. Not you as the ref.

Does living in a country not known for having done anything of importance since Erik the Red really hurt that much?

We're rich so we don't have to do anything, we got lesser people like Canadians for that

that is the problem, there was no warning, she clearly was not up to the task of reffing that important a game.

The old bald guy who reffed soccer, Collina would NEVER have allowed himself to be the talk of a game of that magnitude. He was in control, didn't allow one side to intimidate him, hell if anything, if Abner Wambauch had counted out the seconds to him like he did to the Norwegian ref, Collina would have deliberately NOT called a foul just to show he was in control.

It is too bad FIFA had such an incompetent ref do that important a game. The talk should be about the game, not the screw job one team took.

Maybe Solo was right, there is a lot of sex going on over in the olympics, after all, one Norwegian screwed 33 million yesterday.

there was a great elbow from Tancredi on the American amazon Wambauch, better than anything Gordie Howe ever threw in hockey.

Unfortunately, the argument that there were calls not made both ways is always the weak response from the winner in any sporting event.

Fact is, her decision to enforce a never enforced rule without warning and then to call a penalty on a handball the Canadian wasn't trying to play with her hand, and had no chance to get away from, did change the game. Two bad calls from the ref did change the game. There were no equally bad calls in Canada's favour that offset them.

Really so the no red card given for the head stomp to the US player, are you saying that would not have changed the game at that point? Bad calls both ways is not a weak response in this case, the Canada team should have had at least one red card and several yellow cards and maybe even one double yellow (red) so they did get away with a lot if you want to break it down. Also did you not see the Canada Player dragging down the US player by the jersey in the box on a corner (that = a PK)? So many calls missed on both sides.

The GK said she was warned at end of the first half and she was warned again during play in the second half, how many warnings do you get? The handball call is the one that can be judged, but there where two so it's hard to argue that call when TWO players touched the ball with their hands.

I think refs in socccer are so different from game to game (and it sucks), but getting upset about calls that are legit is even crazier.

On a side note you live just up the road from me and would talk soccer or football with you over a beer if you ever hit up the Seattle area :D

you can't say that was deliberate though, the video isn't conclusive.

and not kicking a player out is not the same as giving another team what is basically a sure goal

now there is talk FIFA might compound the problem by suspending Sinclair and Tancredi for their comments after the game.

Actually McLeod just said she was NEVER given a formal warning.

I agree with you on this. The ref should have done this and never be an outcome for the game.
