On Cowboys Break Nick Eatman made interesting comment

I was watching the pod cast on the website and Nick Eatman said basically that Garrett may be changing players out and sitting high draft picks because he basically has bee told that if he does not make the playoffs he is gone. So instead of developing young players that might be struggling, Garrett is mainly concerned with just wins at this point since this might be his last season in Dallas.


You guys buy this? That Garrett is making these personnel changes and sitting high draft picks in order to "win now"? That might explain the decision to kick the 56 yard field goal, to get as much points as possible since winning games is the only thing he is thinking about right now. I could understand this train of thought, if I was told to make the playoffs or clean out my desk, I would not really care about grooming high draft picks that are struggling either. I am going to put the best players on the field that I have because I am not going to be around the following year to see how well those young draft picks developed if I dont make the playoffs.


I dont know if I buy this or not............................what do you guys think.

That is the impression that I got listening to Eatman. He talked as if it was a foregone conclusion that if Garrett doesnt make the playoffs he is gone. Now this could just be his own personal opinion or maybe somebody in management told him something. I dont know.

If we miss the playoffs, we are probably in that 8-8 area again. I think it will be very hard for Jerry to bring back a head coach that has posted 3 consecutive 8-8 non playoff seasons.

Dont think Jerry can do that so maybe Eatman is on to something. I guess we shall see.

Everybody on that list, except Garrett, made the playoffs. Wade won 2 division titles, so I am not sure how you are getting that they did jack here.

Dave Campo and Jason Garrett are the only 2 head coaches in the history of the Dallas Cowboys to fail to qualify for the playoffs......................................just the facts.

Can only think of one high draft pick that May sit and that is Claiborne Anybody else you know of? I think he will still get a lot of playing time as well as Carter.

In this age of parity, if an organization can hit on the right coach, the turnaround time is fairly short.

I'm not advocating for the firing of Garrett. I'm just offering an observation.

If that was the case then why didn't he pull Terrance Williams last week? Kinda of shocked that Nick would even think that.

In some cases, we're playing younger guys in order to rest older players (Austin). He was slow bringing Waters along, electing instead to play Bernardeau a few extra weeks. Sims for Carter in the nickel is more an obvious attempt to address coverage liability. Mo's going to get plenty of playing time this week. So, basically, I don't really buy it, no.

We should be happy to have a coach that is committed to playing the best players any given week, regardless of their contract or draft status.

Guess we're so used to losing that its embedded in Cowboys culture now. A coach doing whatever it takes to win football games is a strange and unusual phenomenon around these parts, now.

If we don't see a turnaround in 3 or 4 years, then yes that coach will be gone too. It's the way it works in the NFL.

He is doing what has needed to be done around these parts for a long, long time... he is sitting guys who blow assignments and make mistakes and he is playing guys that show in practice that they know what to do, will be in the right place at the right time, and will not lose the game by playing dumb.

It really can be that simple. No conspiracy theories needed.

He is just playing the guys that he thinks will help win the game. It is exactly what needs to be done and exactly what hasn't been being done.

Kudos to him... and he isn't coaching for his job either.

I'd be more inclined to believe that Garrett would have benched certain players a bit back and was "discouraged" from doing so.

Supposedly Bruce Carter's effort is in question. That's not something that just happens overnight and it's likely he's been slacking for a bit if all those rumblings are correct.

I was going to post the other day that players in Dallas don't get benched because they are bad. That, in and of itself, won't get you benched. Players get benched if they have piss poor attitudes. Marion Barber was "benched" because he didn't follow dress code. Kevin Ogletree made mistake after mistake and yet was given chance after chance, likely because he wasn't disgruntled IN ADDITION to be unproductive.

I would suspect that Bruce is in the doghouse and his benching has more to do with that than it does the team thinking he can't get the job done.

For Morris, I think he's done a little too much skirting responsibility. Having Stephen tell you to step up while you are saying it's a scheme thing isn't what Garrett would want to hear.

I don't think Garrett really sweats what might happen after week 17 right now. He'd likely be sinking himself by interrupting his process with changes just for the sake of his own interests. How are you going to preach accountability and responsibility and then make self-centered decisions that go against what you have been preaching? Doesn't work.
