with this year to year league this team more than likely wont win the division next year so if they make the playoffs it will be a wildcard on the road how do you think that will work out they couldn't even win a one home game this year

the more i think about it the more i am convinced we need to go after a top tier DE in the FA,no rookie DE is going to dramatically improve this Defense.we can still draft Dline in the early RDs but the RDE should be a guy who can give us 10+ sacks .

Get JPP... he will instantly make the defensive line much better. Also build through the draft.

I can't stand that guy but he is a stud.

I just can't see a old dog like that who is a loud mouth buying into the Dallas culture.

100% agree.

We need a stud DE or DT. Either one.

Keep an eye on Sheldon Richardson imo.

Interesting read by Goose.
The issue is though -- Bill Walsh and Tony Dungy knew defensive talent when drafting.

Nothing in Garrett's tenure as head coach suggests he knows defense talent.
Add to the fact that Jerry is ultimate decider in the picks and Jerry's defense selections outside of the Parcells/Jimmy drafts for defensive players has been lousy.

So maybe the saturation draft is the key -- look no further than the great 2000 CB draft of the likes of Goodrich, Larrimore, & Grant. Yikes.
The past is prologue ~ unless the great Will McClay saves the day.
we havent drafted anyone good apart from often injured Lee for years and the guys we liked always seemed to go just a bit ahead of us.If we like someone we should trade up and get him instead of waiting and missing out.

I'd say we also need an upgrade at WR
Not necessarily. Especially if is prevents upgrading the defense in any way. The Cowboys WR corp is good enough to win a super bowl with. Sign TWill and Butler (neither will command top $) and perhaps draft one in the 5th or 6th.

he is 28 man,he had 24 hurries and 7 sacks in 12 games and was playing better than Vernon before getting injured.

I agree, as well. I think you take a pass rusher in the first round, wide receiver in the second round and every other pick goes to the defensive side of the ball. The offense is fine where it is. Free agency and draft needs to be all defensive.

And it's exciting to be getting Jaylon Smith and Charles Tapper back next year.

If someone like Ross or Davis are there when we pick and are BPA I have no problem grabbing them and averaging 45 per game next year. We have to improve depth and WR too as I can't see both butler and TW coming back. If not a first rounder, then someone like Kupp or Samuel or Dural or maybe Benjamin in th mid rounds are needed.

Right, but we can both agree he is 100% a stud. I'm not quite sure what the culture is here either. If you can thrive in NY, I think he can thrive here. He is just very talented.. even if he only has 3 fingers on one of his hands.

OH hes a beast. I have respect for his game.

But the Dallas culture is an unselfish one. We have a group of good guys in that locker room.

Now while I don't mind us getting a little more of a mean streak with players on that side I just don't want a guy who is talking trash like this clown.

Heck of a player but I don't think he is a culture fit.

If you could sign JPP, get Demarcus back on a cheap deal, and maybe sign Sheldon Richardson as well then you would really have something.

They started a couple years ago with the Jones and Gregory picks (which we all know about the Gregory pick)...

And then last year added Brown, Smith (who could very well contribute greatly in '17) and a DT who contributed 5 sacks as a rookie.

On top of that the Cowboys signed Mayowa, who over the last part of the season really came on.

And we know what Irving is turning into.

So it's not like the cupboard is bare. A couple more DE's are needed along with more secondary help.

A top-10 defense could be achieved in 2017.

It isn't bare, but when the only way you can get to Rodgers is by blitzing in a scheme built around the defensive line getting upfield and getting pressure, you've got some real needs on your line.

Adding someone like Chandler Jones would help, but if he doesn't re-sign with Arizona, he's probably going to be seeking a Oliver Vernon-type deal. Then, you've got Melvin Ingram, whose a little light for 4-3 end, and Jason Pierre-Paul, who's a couple years removed from a 10-plus-sack season. Or you roll the dice on a player like Mario Addison, whose coming off a career year. but at least was a decent spot rusher his previous two years.

Where we are drafting, the top ends will be out of reach, but maybe a Demarcus Walker will be there for us if the draft rankings I'm looking at are accurate or a Takkarist McKinley, who would probably fit more in the Simeon Rice mold.

What we need is a tone-setter. An end who can consistently get pressure or draw double-teams to allow the inconsistent rushers like Mayowa, Irving, Crawford and Lawrence a better chance to break through.

They didn't win the first game vs. GB with a bunch of blitzing. Much of it was done with a 3-man rush... But the Cowboys were much better holding gap integrity in game #1 vs. game #2.

That being said I'd consider Addison or Sheard.

My input here is find who can be used as DE from this years DL and draft 3 &1 technic DT in the draft and let the others go. Outside of DTs maybe two CBs. The rest of the draft would be for that gem who will a surprise Defensive player rookie of the year.
BPA is how you build good teams.

If you draft great players it will work out regardless of position. See Elliot, Ezekiel.

What do you think Kenny Britt will get on the market this year? He kind of sank into obscurity over the last few years with the Rams but had a good year this year and he's still relatively young. I think he'd be a massive upgrade at the WR2 spot.
Kenny Britt is another option! As you know, Kenny had over 1000 yds receiving on 68 receptions with 5 TDs. His annual salary was around 4.5 million. That's not bad number two numbers! What do you think? Is he looking for a 4 year deal at 6 mill a year? Either way options are plenty, and Britt is a great option too

And Rodgers was much worse at completing passes, missing on multiple opportunities where receivers were open.
