8 is the least amount of dbs we would take, but probably as many as ten.

It's still a big bunch of confusion--lots of players and who to keep?

Bergen over curtis, check

Okay, this is my roster. Somehow it worked out numbers wise, but I truly believe this is what's going to happen. And yes, I know, Ellis isn't there. I don't think he'll be with the team after next week (trade, released, retirement, whatever) So give it a look...

QB-3
Romo
Johnson
Moore

RB-3
Jones
Barber
Battle

FB-2
Hoyte
Anderson

WR-6
Glenn
Owens
Crayton
Hurd
Austin
Stanback

TE-2
Witten
Fasano

OL-10
Adams
Kosier
Gurode
Davis
Colombo
Marten
Free
Berger
Procter
Darilek

DE-4
Spears
Canty
Ratliff
Hatcher

DT-2
Ferguson
Stanley

OLB-4
Ware
Spencer
Glymph
Obomese

ILB-4
James
Ayodele
Carpenter
Burnett

CB-6
Newman
Henry
Glenn
Thomas
Reeves
Ball or Brown

FS-2
Hamlin
Watkins

SS-2
Williams
Davis

K-1
Folk

P-1
McBriar

LS-1
Laduceur

Total-53

Explanations:
QB: Phillips will want to keep a third QB, I just have a feeling. I picked Moore because I think he's more ready mentally than Bartel. But Bartel could win it because he has more potential and a stronger arm. If we decide to keep two kickers, I think we only keep two QBs.

RB: Battle will win the job over Thompson. We need a bruiser. We have Thompsons speed in Julius Jones.

FB: Reports are Hoyte is solidifying himself as the starter. But the Cowboys really like Anderson and may keep him because of his potential.

WR: Hurd and Austin are have too much potential to get rid of either. Austin won his roster spot in last year's playoff game. The Cowboys love Stanback too much to get rid of him, ready or not.

TE: No need for a 3rd TE, really. We have a fullback, and if needed we'll definitely have another TE on the practice squad.

OL: Marten and Free will make the roster because of their draft status. Berger will back up at center/guard. Procter at guard. Darilek will be the surprise.

DE: Nothing needs to be said here. Self explanatory.

DT: Stanley will make the roster simply because he's better than the other
DTs we have behind Fergie. Ratliff can play DT in a pinch. And like Spags says, if no one wins the spot, there's always free agency for DT.

OLB: Like I said, I have a feeling Ellis won't be with us this year however that happens. This will make a roster spot for Obomese, who the coaches seem to be high on. In a pinch, Burnett and Carpenter have experience at OLB.

ILB: No need to explain.

CB: Thomas is the surprise of camp. Reeves has proven himself to be reliable, but he will compete with Ball and Brown for the last two spots. Only 2 of those 3 will make the roster. Brown might have the advantage because he's been working at FS too. He can back up both positions.

FS: Hamlin, Watkins. Nuff said.

SS: Same here.

K: Folk will win the job. I know it in my gut. Today's field goal was evidence. Folk- 6 for 6, Gramatica- 2 for 6. I like Gramatica, I really do. And if Folk falters we can resign Gramatica. (or Cundiff, lol)

P: McBriar, duh.

LS: Like LP is going to lose his job...

So there you go. Criticize and comment all you want, but I think it works out, strangely. When I did this I honestly thought I was going to have to trim down some positions, but it turned out to be exactly 53 after my first try. It's a sign.

Cowboy Mike - you don't think McQuistan will earn a roster spot on the OL?

Oh crap. I knew I passed over someone. McQ over Procter or Darilek.

I think that based on the performance early in camp, you have to give Trey Darilek a real shot at beating out Procter...

I was just going to add my comment re why McQuistan not on your list when somebody else posted it. Agree with just about everything else except:

1. LB - 8
If Ellis doesn't play for us again (hard to believe), Cowboys will move Burnett (has really stepped it up) will move outside. Obamesse (?) could make the team but we might also be looking for another ILB (not Godfrey).

2. S - 5/6
Williams/Hamlin / Watkins & Brown as FS backup. Cowboys also like Elam so he & Davis in for backup at SS.

3. CB - 5/6
Newman/Henry/Glenn - But Henry not looking good (didn't look good in TC first 2 years either); too many WRs torching him & Glenn also limping. We desperately need a younger CB to step it up & sure looks like Thomas makes this team & Ball has good chance. Reeves & Jones in trouble & so is Glenn so one of these 3 win last spot probably Reeves. We could have 2 serious needs at CB in 08 which we might have to address early. Frankly unless Henry & Glenn step it up in preseason games, we probaby combing FA list for CB.

Stanbach will be the 3rd/emergency QB. If he can make the transition to WR, then he certainly adds value to the team.
Don't forget that Crayton was a college QB as well and he has already gone through the transition curve to become a WR. IMO He is more likely than Stanbach to be the emergency QB for that reason.

Battle is a bruiser that runs straight up like Eric Dickerson. He ain't makin' it. Gotta pull for my boy Thompson. And since when does Julius have speed like Thompson? :) He had like one run for more than 10 yards last year????
