Opening a can of worms

Our own fans calling Jason Witten a jerk. I’ve seen it all. Uh, until you post again I guess.

Please don't lump everyone into one basket. This is one of a few that have an opposing opinion. Never mind that they're wrong... lol

He did the right thing for himself and his family. So, we are in agreement (which makes us right, lol).
Honestly, it wouldn't surprise me if Jerry was the one to bring up the opportunity to Jason.

He didn’t call Witten a jerk. He said it was a jerk move. Reading comprehension, people. It’s your friend.

I'm happy for Witten, but does anyone else feel that :espn: may be crossing the line by going after a current player? Imagine if they talked someone like Brady or Belichek to retire for a TV job.
NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO I think my view on this is quite clear

How do you know that Witten didn’t approach ESPN first...and with Jerry’s blessing?

Something like this:

“I’m considering retirement and, as everyone knows, would like a future job in broadcasting. Might you guys have an opening available soon?”

Seems an odd time to ask a guy if he wants a job. But I can tell you that Witten pretty much screwed us with his timing. Telling us on the 2nd day of the draft that he probably isn't coming back? Jerk move if you ask me. But like I said, I'm almost glad it happened like that.
Just because that is when the fans found out does not mean that is when the organization knew. He could have told them he was probably going to retire a month prior.

Doug Free does did something similar. Witten must have had more than 1 talk with JJ. He is a stand up guy and would not screw the team.

I think it will come out that he had given the team plenty of notice he was considering hanging up the cleats.

Quite a few people interviewed. I read Greg Olsen did as well.

I don’t know if ESPN told him to apply or not but considering Witten’s age...I’m sure he would be interested regardless.

Witten has been a candidate to retire for the last couple of years, it wasn't like they going after Travis Frederick or Byron Jones.

I wish ESPN had done it sooner with Witten.

Other teams would win the Super Bowl occasionally.

And yes, as much as it hurts, the timing from Witten wasn’t ideal.

If he does this two months ago, the Cowboys may have entertained going after a TE in FA.

Doesn’t mean he’s a jerk or this was a BS move on his part.

He may not have had the offer until then.

Just because we found out when we did doesn't necessarily mean Jerry and the staff didn't know prior.

Correct
Reports were that Jason confided in Jerry well before the draft. It obviously didn’t change their draft thinking much

Witten didn't screw anyone. Are you too blind to know we will be better without him? It was a blessing. Dallas really didn't even need to draft a TE with jarwin, gathers and swaim competing for a spot.
