he lost several home playoff games and was the reason they played several years with Kordell at QB, because he believed he could make him a QB even when others in the organization were saying otherwise.

they had a ton of talent over the years and he really didnt produce in the postseason, save one year where his team out and out stole a super bowl from Seattle
He went 12-9 in the playoffs, almost the same winning % as Bill Parcells.

So he took a shot on Stewart. What was he going to do? Go with Jim Miller? Mike Tomczak? It's no coincidence that when he finally got a decent QB, he won a SB.

He hardly had a ton of talent most of those yearrs. The year they almost stole the SB from us, he didn't have half the talent we did. Fact is, he's one of the most successful coaches of his generation.

Bill Cowher would never take this job unless Jerry can convince him that he would have total control of the staff and Jerry won't meddle with coaching duties.

Everyone that thinks it's great that Jerry is hiring staff before the HC is even on board, or that he's making decisions on whether injured players will play of not, or that he's going into the lockerroom to chew out the team needs to realize that all these things are what will keep any quality coach from coming here.

Of course, Jerry would first have to make the decision, like he did when he hired Bill, that he will step back and give the HC the complete authority in these areas. But, I dont' see him doing that again. He likes to meddle too much. So we might as well get used to the Wade's, Campo's, Gailey's and Switzer's of the world coming here and then being undermined on top of it.

Why would Bill Cowher want to work for Jerry?

He doesn't need the money and that's the only reason I could see for him coming to Dallas.

The Cowboys should call Bill Cowher and make him the next head coach. Wade is a cupcake and Parcells was too hard. Cowher, the soup is perfect, would be perfect combo for this team.

Who is with me?
Cowher's too tough, this team can't handle a tough coach, remember?

This ain't baseball. A midseason headcoaching change is pretty much throwing in the towel.

It's the middle of October... let's try to keep our chins up.

I think keeping the current coach is throwing in the towel personally!

how many times would Cowher spit on Jerry if Jerry came in to the lockeroom running his mouth? but maybe that's what we need.

Until Jerry retires no coach that is worth a damn is going to want to come here

Isnt that what everyone said before Parcells was hired? And Parcells has never openly complained about his level of decision making. Parcells wasnt thrilled about T.O. but I also think he could of vetoed it if he had been adamant against the signing. He wasnt all for T.O. but sorta agreed to give it a shot it seemed.

Was that the same year his team went on the road and beat the AFC's top teams at Cincinnati, at Indianapolis and at Denver?

I also don't remember the Steelers having a ton of talent under Cowher, quite the opposite in fact.

Seemed to me that unlike Coach Cupcake here, Cowher always got more from less, not the other way around.

Again-he was ALMOST fired after the '99 season. After that disasterous season, he met with the Rooneys for a good bit, and ended up forking over his FO duties just to save his own skin.

Even GM Tom Donahoe resigned after this same season partly b/c he couldn't put up with Cowher.

Wow-and everyone here WANTS Jerry to give this guy COMPLETE control?

Actually-he HAD veto power over this deal. It was Jerry's IDEA, and Jerry was the one who WANTED him here, but ultimately, it was up to BILL at the end.

In 15 seasons as Steelers' coach, the man led the team to 9 division championships.

He finished with a 149-90 record, 59 games over .500.

Only 3 times in those 15 years did Cowher have a losing record.

Pittsburgh also fielded a Top 10 defense in 12 of those 15 years.

In fact, their defense never ranked lower than 13th (in Cowher's 1st season on the job)

The guy has always gotten the most out of the talent his teams had and I think he would do the same thing in Dallas.

At the very least, he'd hold the players accountable.

Read my post again-alot of Zoners want Jerry to give Cowher COMPLETE control.

However-my point was that in '99 when he was on the HOT seat(coming off TWO disasterous seasons), he was FORCED to give up all of his FO duties just to save his own skin. Even GM Tom Donahoe quit b/c he got fed up working with him.

OK-he's a proven winner, fine. But he didn't start having his greatest success UNTIL his FO duties were stripped.

Again-I find it odd how most of the Zoners here are BEGGING Jerry to give this guy complete control.

I can't imagine why Cowher would want to work for Jones. He worked for the Rooney's, and Jones is the polar opposite and he knows that. The only way I could seem him taking this job for Jones is for enough money, which IMO would be for the wrong reason to start with anyway.

With in 2 months Cowher would have that miserable look on his face that Parcells did and what Wade and Romo currently have.

Sorry, but I haven't seen too much of that myself.

I would contend that 'greatest success' part too. He had 6 consecutive winning seasons before '98, including a Super Bowl appearance.

In any event, Cowher would have as much control as Bill Parcells did.

Jerry's not going to turn the 'keys to the kingdom' over to anybody.

Jerry Jones has seats to fill next year in his new stadium. I don't know if it's going to be Cowher, but you can bet your autographed Romo jersey, that unless Wade completely turns things around (alas, I doubt it), Jerry will hire a "name" head coach in order to help (yet again) fuel optimism and expectations to generate tix sales.

I heard Cowher was interested because he wants to legitimately win a Super Bowl.......

Yes.

i'd bet Jerruh strongly considers this if we miss the playoffs and our offense stagnates as it has the past 11 games.

jerry is heavily invested in winning now and has been made a fool of by his choices to hire Jason, then Wade then Wade's buddies and his old buddies (campo, hudson).

cowher would be the right guy from this overpaid collection of "superstars". let Red go learn how to coach in oakland or nfl siberia somewhere else.
