Opinion: Looking like we'll have Scandrick

Internet says there's a new drug policy. Might be announced in time to fly OScan back for the game. Certainly for week 2. That is huge!

Did Green Bay or Seattle have anybody that would be affected? If they did, then it's doubtful that the NFL would let players return on Sunday if any players already missed the Thursday game.

Everyone does realize the legal repercussions that will occur if they reduce or eliminate any of these players suspensions? They broke the rules that were in place at the time. Players lost jobs because they broke those rules. It's comparable to me getting a speeding ticket for going 65 in a 50. Then months later they change the road to 65. I will still have that speeding ticket regardless IMHO

That's not really how it works. The NFL and the NFLPA negotiate these issues together. If the NFL wants HGH testing, then they have to give up something.

Add me to the Josh Gordon fantasy pray and hope train. Added him to the roster.

Josh Gordon was rumored to being bringing a suit. Think the league figured domestic violence was worse than MJ.

Sweet! You think he was a crouch before. Look out!!!

HGH testing was already agreed upon in the last CBA.

It's how that will be administered in practice that's the sticking point. Namely the NFLPA wants less power in the hands of Goodell for appeals.

I'd bet you've got some owners pushing the other way.

Oh I'm sure, from the reports yesterday it sounds like they are trying to get the NFLPA to agree to more stringent HGH testing than they want to approve in exchange for the new drug policy/suspensions lifted

So the NFL give up what? And how far back do you go? Gordon welker and scandrick all violated a rule that was in place at the time of violation. I find it extremely unlikely they would say.... Well since these are recent, you guys are off the hook. The rest of you.... Sorry you lost millions

I tend to agree with you.

I bet if the suspended players were no-name defensive linemen instead of names like Welker and Gordon, this wouldn't be happening.

Or potentially happening, as nothing has happened yet.

Obviously, they won't go back past players that have already served suspensions.

It's a negotiation between to parties. They can negotiate anything. There are no outside laws or anything setting the boundaries.

It's just like the penalties themselves. Goodell can give out any penalty that he desires. He's not like a judge in a court of law that has very limited boundaries on the sentences that he can impose.

Currently the NFLPA is trying to impose some bounties on Goddell and in return they have to agree to HGH testing and possibly some other terms.

That's the same question I had when I first heard about it.

Also, if the NFL is as in tune with fantasy football as some people claim, then reinstating players at the very last minute would be screwing that up. I don't know if the NFL really cares about that, but many people say that they do.

Really more about how aspects of the policy doesn't work in practice. Ped suspension for Molly? Incredibly low threshold for marijuana?

Not saying it will definitely happen. But I listened to the DeMaurice Smith interview on my way to work yesterday and he was pretty adamant in saying that players in this football year should not be penalized under an obsolete drug policy. That's of course assuming the new policy is agreed to by both sides. I can't imagine the penalized players getting off scott-free but I'd imagine each case is currently being negotiated and a compromise will be made on each penalized player's penalty.

Raising the maryjane threshold is a big give up. Likely far more commonly used than HGH

Scandrick and Welker would likely have to be placed in Stage 1 of the drug abuse program - despite testing positive during the off-season when there is no drug abuse (only ped) testing. Gordon's case is sorta silly. His "B" sample was below the limit. Had that been the "A" sample, he'd not have been suspended. The threshold is already way lower than several other sports

I doubt they'll consider fantasy football as a factor no matter how much they do want to promote or support it.

Even if the Packers and Seahawks were not directly affected by the current/previous policy, the league may say that since week 1 has officially started, it is too late to drop the current suspensions and it will have to start on week 2.

Another issue is that even if an agreement is reached, it may not be officially drawn up and signed until next week sometime, which would give the NFL a justifiable reason to hold off on dropping the suspensions until week 2. The only issue the NFLPA will have will likely be they will want the players paid for the week 1 game. The removal of suspensions for week 1 are probably of lesser importance to them in the grand scheme.
