Opinion: WR Corps goal for 2010 – Find a #2 WR (he is not in-house currently)

I think Sam Hurd is not on the roster next year. Ogletree should have a solid offseason and he'll be on the team. There's really only one open spot for WR's on this team. With that being said, I think still we need more speed at the WR position. Austin is a complete WR, but isn't really a burner. He gets most of his long gains from double moves and breaking tackles. We need that WR to stretch the field. Jerry needs to put his ego aside and draft a WR in the 3rd or 4th round.

Ogletree is pretty darn fast. I think he could develop into our stretch the field guy.

Romo threw for 4300 yards. Passing isn't the problem. He'll running isn't either. The problem is scoring points and with all those field goals missed and all thosepenalties resulting in 3rd and longs in the opponents 50? Recievers aren't our problem.

:bravo:

But the real issue in 2010 will be whether RW can get on the same page with Romo. And I think "get on the same page" means run routes correctly and precisely, so Romo knows where you're going to be as he runs down his progressions.

Romo gave up on him, it's not like he is a rookie that can develop. He had more snaps than any other receiver here last year and couldn't get it done, why does anybody believe that he will change in his 3rd year here, 7th in the league?

I think the RW trade HAS turned out to be the biggest bust in NFL history. Troy was right. At least Galloway gave us a couple good years. Roy has actually HURT the offense by being on the field.

See Minnesota Vikings acquiring Herschel Walker from Dallas Cowboys before saying that.

Craig

Jordan Shipley as the slot, Crayton as another slot (2 slot receivers, deadly. plus unique)

1 Miles
2 Roy/Otree compete

Hurd released sorry.

Ya, there is no comparison. Except both involved the Cowboys and a team from the NFC north.

Good call. :laugh2: Players and top draft picks for 3 years for 1 player and that player never made a differance at Minn which made those 1's, 2's even better pick. I have never seen as a trade as one sided as that one.

RW we gave up a 1st and a 3rd then a day 2 pick. Still a big price but nothing close to the level of the Walker trade.

We dont' KNOW that he isn't on this team right now...it took an injury for the coaching staff to realize what we had in Austin.

This is a waste of a thread because Roy Williams isn't going anywhere.

RW11 is a sunk cost, just like TO was. The picks and the guarantees are spent money. If the team can get better by replacing him they should without regards to the contract. There will be no cap in 2010 and Jerry and Stephen have shown they are capable of dumping players with bad attitudes or performance. Whether they will is the question.

I'd actually rather have Sam Hurd over Roy Williams because of his special teams play. I know that won't happen though, and if it came down to Roy or Sam, Roy would stay.

I would too, but Jerry has too big of an ego to admit he made a horrible GM move.

Won't happen.

RW is the #2 receiver in this offense for 2010.

The #2 receiver is NOT the problem in this offense.

The offensive line is.

People fail to recognize this. Not having a #2 receiver that you can throw to increases the probability that you will get sacked, or throw an incompletion or an interception. It is not a non-issue. Despite all the yards that we put up, the better teams will take away Austin and Witten and pressure Tony into turnovers. I don't see our line improving markedly in 2010 given the FA constraints and the lack of prospects in-house, but we could improve the passing situation in big games by getting rid of Roy altogether. We should use his snaps to develop somebody else worthy of the position throughout the season so that we have a viable #2 or even #3 by December.

Brandon Marshall :p:

If Denver would do Marshall for Williams and a 2nd round pick, I would jump on that like a IDK#

Austin as #1, Marshall as #2 is more dangerous than Fitzgerald and Boldin, tenfold

KDUM Radio in Dallas is reporting that internal discussions are going on about bringing back TO.
