Dunbar had a serious injury and there is no guarantee he even plays this year but people keep acting like he is end all. Not only does he have a problem staying healthy but he likely won't be he healthy for the start of the season. Go ahead and pencil him as the no.2 starter.

Doesn't have to be that way.

Thoughts: I'm not sure if it is poor vision or that godawful blocking he was getting but it's not pretty. His QB is terrible. Very quick and fast.

a lot of 8 man fronts too. He was getting hit right after getting the ball. Did I see a wing T formation in there.

With McFadden out for 2 months and Dunbar coming off a serious injury that opens a door for Jackson on the 53 provided he stands out on special teams.

EE
Morris - he had three 1,000-yard seasons in his four seasons in Washington
Jackson

never liked Dunbar

Dunbar began the 2013 season with the expectation of being a change-of-pace back that could back up DeMarco Murray, but injuries (three games missed) and fumble issues impacted his playing time at the start of the season. He was fighting for the third-string running back position with rookie Joseph Randle, when he had a breakout game against the Oakland Raiders, registering 82 rushing yards (6.8 average), but also suffering a season-ending knee injury. For the year he recorded 150 yards, averaging 5 yards per attempt, leaving the Cowboys with high hopes about his running ability. In 2014, he didn't see much playing time behind Offensive Player of the Year DeMarco Murray and also fell to third-string behind Joseph Randle

EE is a threat as far as receiving out of the backfield. But I'll bet you there won't be a lot of snaps where he motions out of the backfield into a receiver's slot nor where he just lines up there. Garrett is on record as saying Dunbar could be a pure receiver although if so he'd have to be a SL. He's not big enough to be a X or Z. McFadden is not a threat to Dunbar's role. Jackson MIGHT be able to play the outside speed threat.....we'll see.

Dunbar is Dunbar's biggest threat because he needs to stay healthy.

You can bet but I've read OTA reports that say Linehan has him flexing out already. Garrett gushes about all his players and even had nice things to say about Hardy. Much like when Marinelli says that Hayden was like another LB in pursuit, I take that type of talk with a grain of salt.

If you like Dunbar I respect that but I've gotten to the point where I want him gone. I don't demand that I get what I want or act the fool so I wouldn't worry about it too much.

As for DMC, if you can go back to his time at the Raiders 2 and 3 years ago from before when Spagnola took over, they used him as a WR flexing out routinely and he was surprising proficient at it. In, out, slant, and go were all on display to go along with the screen game.

I don't have a personal investment in Dunbar. I like the player but I like a lot of players including ones on other teams.

They are not going to put their bellcow RB out wide as a receiver more than a few snaps a year. He isn't a receiver but a RB who happens to be an excellent receiver for a RB. Garrett has not just praised Dunbar's receiving ability but gushed over it even as far as saying they'd not hesitate to put him out there as a pure receiver. He said he adjusts on the ball as well as anyone on the team.

I'm not worried about his role nor his abilities when healthy but his ability to stay healthy. I'm not worried about his ACL. Almost 98% of players come back from that without reoccurrence. It's his patellar injury that is worrisome and I'm not ready to say, even with very limited knowledge, he will come back as before on a permanent basis.

There is no one on the team with his skill set and that is my admiration. We'll see.

I never liked Dunbar either until last season. He was terrific until he got hurt, he was leading the team in receiving. The Cowboys finally found a way to utilize his skills that made him very effective coming out of the backfield. He was arguably the teams MVP until he got hurt. He came up huge in the opener with some big plays especially on the Cowboys last ditch drive that helped them win that game. Against Atlanta he had 10 catches for 100 yards. He's never going to be a great runner doesn't have the size but as a receiver he showed something. Coming off a serious injury it's up in the air if he makes the team but he provided a dimension in the games he played last season that we haven't seen in awhile.

Best back after EzE. Don't care if he's a 6th rounder who has proved nothing. He won't make it to the ps. Doesn't make much sense to keep both Mac and Morris. He could also give us a nice option as a returner.

So 215 selections in the draft passed where any team could have selected him, but you think if we cut him at the end of preseason and try to put him on the PS, other teams will sign him to a guaranteed spot on their every week 53 man roster? After they've spent all off season, training camp, and preseason acclimating their players to their system and whittling it down to 53 guys who can actually contribute, they'll cut one of them to sign the 216th pick in the draft to their 53 man roster when he doesn't know their system or playbook?

I don't see that happening at all, not unless he literally explodes in preseason and looks like a pro-bowler.

Now all we really have on Darius Jackson are HIGHLIGHTS which isn't the same as "tape"/game film but based on those highlights he really seems to run with authority, although he seems to run a little high. Plus with Ezekiel, the potential of any other running back seems superfluous especially someone like Jackson who might end up on the PS. But he seems like he might have something in a couple of years, maybe as a spell back to Elliott.

I'd read somewhere that the coaches thought they'd hit big on that pick after the first mini

And he looks great why would try to stash him on the PS?

Every team has their version on DJackson

Special Teams is his only shot.

We can say what we want about Dunbar but the coaching staff loves Dunbar too much as a niche RB to simply let him go. So assuming he can play Week 1, he'll be on the active roster. His health is still an unknown but the fact that he's running routes now with nearly 3 months ahead of the season seems to bode well for his chances.

Morris is a perfect backup because he allows you to continue running the same plays and not completely alter the blocking scheme. Also capable of starting if needed and maintaining a very effective power running attack.

Jackson would make it as a 4th RB/STs.

Watching that video, one thing is for sure: EMU is awful. I can't believe that QB was the starter, there were no redeeming qualities. It looked like a failed WR playing QB. Jackson got little to no blocking from the o line. He has elite speed and decent wiggle/agility in the video. He was used as a lead blocker at times and was just average at that. His pass protection needs some work, but I have seen worse. He runs high, looks like a much faster Eddie George. It's clear why he was a sixth rounder though, there was no way he was going to be able to show all he can do in that offense and needed a pro day to show some traits.

This clip against LSU was a good watch:

When McFadden returns if he doesn't look good or suffers another injury and Jackson stands out as a runner it wouldn't shock me if McFadden were released. I don't see that happening but it can't be totally ruled out if it appears the injuries are starting up with McFadden and Jackson impresses. McFadden is aging and if Jackson is impressing to the point where the team fears risking him on the practice squad to another team McFadden could be the odd man out. Jackson's fate will most likely come down how he performs in camp/preseason and how good he is on special teams. Backs drafted in the 6th round usually don't make teams unless they stand out on special teams. Terrell Davis was a 6th round pick and this play on special teams his rookie year helped him make the team.

Ok, that was a better clip. EMU got up to play against LSU, they were just clearly so far less talented. As for Jackson, i would say i am more optimistic about him, we have some talent to work with, i can see some draftable qualities there.

thanks for posting. What are your thoughts on Jackson?

I think he has a shot if he is given a fair shot and they don't just earmark him for the PS.

Dunbar.

Have to agree. Those who get on McFadden about injury yet will prop up Dunbar? The guy has been nothing but injury. I don't dislike Dunbar but every time he gets a chance to play he ends up out of the lineup due to injury.
