Meh . . . Why?
ROMO- Imo, he is Jake Plummer and Jake Delhomme rolled into one. The last two preseason games will be very telling as to how his season will go. If Romo doesn't play well, I see a benching in his future, because JG's job is on the line. And blaming all of Romo's miscues on the OL is like a little kid blaming a turtle for his misbehaving. Having said that, is it possible that the lack of a solid OL the last few years have taken a toll on his psyche? Yes. And we can blame that on the Jones's.
OL though improved, is still porous, either through injury, or lack of good solid anchors. Frederick was a great pick, but he is a rookie.
DL We changed DC; that may be a good, or that may be bad. The uncertainty weakens the team until proven otherwise. One thing is for sure. Super Bowl teams are totally in sync both defensively and offensively. The Cowboys and the concept of "sync" are as foreign to each other, as the notion that the Cowboys will win a 6th super bowl in the near future. In years past, the offensive players and defensive players might as well have been speaking a different language for all they have helped each other out. For whatever reason . . . although I have my suspicions.
Reason for any optimism:
JG I like this man. He gave up play calling for the good of the team. Whether that was forced on him by JJ, as well as the other staff changes that were made, is a moot point. Humility is the kind of leadership quality I have a great deal of respect for. As does the team from what I'm hearing. So, for instance, if Romo falters right out of the gate, I have confidence that JG will slap him upside the head, figuratively speaking. I think. JG has been a mucho tough hombre this camp. If I were Romo, I'd think twice about sand lotting it this year.
