Have you watched them this preseaon? The starting team has looked atrocious.

Yep. You nailed it. San Diego's 1st team looks realllly bad. (mainly Philip Rivers). The guy that plays behind Rivers (Jesus), would probably do better starting in that offense.

I really can't think of another QB that has fallen off the cliff like Rivers. It's crazy.

I learned a long time ago that judging teams by their pre-season performance is an exercise in futility.

Judging a team solely by the breadth of its preseason performance would be idiotic. Understanding traits and situational performance in the preseason and how it will track into the regular season is just good prudent work.

I'm still optimistic after this turnover debacle. This things go in clusters.

Turnovers are easy to fix. The reality is, we left about 21 points out there in the first half because of turnovers or a bad overthrow by Romo. But the REAL reality is, it's preseason football. Don't put ANY stock in anything you see. It means nothing.
San Diego has averaged 8-8 seasons over the past 3 years. Are they really such a gimme?

Yes.

I don't know how I can feel better about the team after that steamer we dropped yesterday against the vaunted Arizona Cardinals.

I agree that at times we played pretty poorly at times against the Cardinals, but there were some high points as well. I am of the opinion that the Cardinals are the best team we have played in the preseason so far, and will be a much improved team this year. I think the Cardinals will be vying for a playoff spot.

I wonder what the over/under is for betting on wins for the Cardinals. My guess is whatever it is .... bet the over.

Maybe so. But I still see an O-line who can't block at all. We had about 2 runs the whole entire game that had any sort of daylight. Our guard plays is atrocious, as it has been for years. You know it's bad when we are begging guys that are retired to come out of retirement and come be our starters. 3rd and a foot and we throw a 20 yard fade route. Our 1st team offense has scored 3 points so far. And it's not just that, it's the same move the ball between the 20s but never produce any points.

We will have another 8 win season but because the East is so bad, we will be competitive in that division. Barely miss the playoffs and thinking we are just a few players away from being really good going into the offseason. Wash, rinse, repeat.

You can't hide behind "it's only the preseason" all the time when the same problems for years are still there.

I like what I am seeing so far but Safety scares me yet again this season.

I love the JJ Wilcox pick but sure wish we would've taken DJ Swearinger looking back at the dreaded second round pick

Optimism no's no bounds here.

Our defense has no where to go but up. Kiffy's playbook seems more player-friendly.
Plus Romo is on a mission to prove his detractors wrong.

11-5 (these exhibition games have little to do with my optimism)

Neither more or less optimistic at this point we're only 2 games into preseason. The Cowboys have gotten some turnovers on defense which has been a positive but we're still seeing issues in the redzone with penalties and negative plays. We're also seeing quite a few injuries again which is a concern. The starters play very little in preseason so I don't put much stock in preseason games. There's teams that have gone 0-4 in preseason and went on to win the SB. We'll find out the first 2-4 games of the regular season if there's reason to be more or less optimistic about the Cowboys.

I started to post a reply to this thread last week and had some system issues that prevented my response from going through. My optimism level remains unchanged and will stay that way until the regular season. As has been mentioned already on this thread, Preseason really isn't the place to go looking for optimism.

I will say that I like what we have seen thus far from the rookies and a few of the young players, but until the games mean something, it is hard to say if what we are seeing is the beginning of a bright future.

still optimistic, but I am getting bored...it seems like that a bunch of guys are conveniently getting dinged and "will be ready for the opener"...I think that is great, but it makes me want September to get here pretty quickly

Never thought he was elite anyway but you're right can't judge Rivers or the team until the real hitting begins.

Since the preseason games began? Probably unchanged. Things to like & dislike. Then there is the whole false impressions that go along with preseason in general.

Up, mostly because I like Garrett and I think he's building the team the right way.

Of course, I'm in the minority because there's basically no scenario where I wouldn't retain Garrett after 2013. Even if Dallas goes 6-10, he's coaching my team next year.

I'm terrified Jones will axe him with another 8-8 finish though.

Do you think that Jason has turned this team around after 3 drafts and three training camps?

He needs some help at receiver. I always thought he was overrated but he is better than what we are seeing right now.
