Orlando Scandrick suspended first four games ***for Molly** Post #246

His girlfriend gave him a Molly. That's a clear message that she wants a good time.

Put yourself in that spot - keeping in mind you aren't in a test period for recreational substances. He is at fault for not knowing it fell under PED policy ... But the rest, I totally get it

How do you know his girlfriend gave it to him and why does that matter?

I just think you have to be smarter than that when you know the NFL is not playing about any illegal substances.

The Cowboys see you as a foundational piece. They have rewarded you with extensions TWICE with little to no heavy negotiations. This is how you reward us especially when you know the defense is already on thin ice? The lack of leadership since the triplets and woody left is a real sore spot for this franchise. We replaced legends, with scrubs, and now phonies.

Yet it wouldn't bother you if they drank alcohol - both do. We've seen pictures of Written with a beer in Mexico and Church was out with Brent and Brown on that fateful night

Alcohol is legal. Ask me if I would be bothered if they were to abuse alcohol.

Yup, it all comes down to what is considered socially acceptable and non-taboo in our society. Alcohol, even though it's a mind-altering drug (according to AA at least), is a substance that I'm sure the league wouldn't bat an eye over. But it kills more people every year than most other illegal drugs.

I guarantee if our congressmen and other powers that be all smoked weed or snorted coke, these would be legal in our society as well.

Dude. It is all over the internet.

And again, players can take recreational drugs all they want in the off-season so long as they are clean come 4-20. He got hit because he took something not listed as a PED - it metabolizes into a PED. Fault him for not understanding chemistry

Nah I think I'll fault him for being an idiot and taking the chance. This isn't the first time a player was suspended for unknowingly taking a PED that was masked in another substance. Why not learn from other's mistakes and not take the chance if you are not 100% positive it won't come up down the line?

Let's be real, if this were Dez, nobody would be giving him the benefit of the doubt.

edit: look at the picture above.

Technically, MDMA IS an amphetamine itself. It's chemical name is 3,4-methylenedioxy-N-methylamphetamine. I'm pretty sure it would show up on a drug test as amphetamine whether it was laced with pure amphetamine or not.

The drug Molly is the crystal or powder form of MDMA (3,4-methylenedioxy-N-methylamphetamine), a chemical used in the street drug Ecstasy. Because it is purportedly free of adulterants, such as methamphetamine or caffeine, Molly is commonly touted as being a safer drug than Ecstasy.

Molly — short for "molecule" — has become the drug of choice for many concertgoers and festival attendees. It increases the activity of neurotransmitters in the brain, causing users to experience feelings of energy, euphoria and empathy toward others. Molly also distorts vision, hearing and sense of time.

The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) classifies molly as a Schedule I controlled substance, which means that the drug has a high potential for abuse and no accepted use in medical treatment. According to the DEA, Molly can cause confusion, anxiety, depression, paranoia, sleep problems and drug cravings. Molly also inhibits the body's ability to regulate temperature, resulting in hyperthermia, or elevated body temperature.

While Molly is sometimes considered a "pure" form of MDMA, it often contains other drugs. In recent months, the deaths of several young people have been linked to molly. But the toxicology reports for two of the deceased — Jeffrey Russ, 23, and Matthew Rybarczyk, 20, showed that Russ died from a fatal mix of MDMA and methylone. Rybarczyk also died from an overdose of methylone.

Methylone — a compound commonly found in another street drug, "bath salts" — has properties and side effects similar to MDMA and, according to law enforcement officials, is often sold under the name Molly. However, the toxicity of this drug may be higher than that of MDMA, and its role in the sudden cardiac death of at least one previously healthy youth is still being studied.

Does that distinguish between PED and recreational policies? No.

You may fail to grasp the difference but I expect most players know when they can get high if so inclined.

If you know when you're going to be tested, then you have to be pretty damn stupid to get busted for MDMA, given that it stays in yr system for a few days at most.

Also,

MDMA and MDA may be quantitated in blood, plasma or urine to monitor for use, confirm a diagnosis of poisoning or assist in the forensic investigation of a traffic or other criminal violation or a sudden death. Some drug abuse screening programs rely on hair, saliva, or sweat as specimens. Most commercial amphetamine immunoassay screening tests cross-react significantly with MDMA or its major metabolites, but chromatographic techniques can easily distinguish and separately measure each of these substances. The concentrations of MDA in the blood or urine of a person who has taken only MDMA are, in general, less than 10% those of the parent drug.

So even pure MDMA (molly), without any adulterants, will still show up as amphetamine on a test. As AbeBeta pointed out, MDMA metabolizes in your body into amphetamine at some point.
