Weeden makes Cowboys smell like a cadaverous fish on the Orton deal, but Jerral Wayne is obviously the putrid and mortified Flounder aroma we are all having to stomach.

Doesn't matter, if Orton doesn't want to play here then he needs to GTHO. What do we think we will get from a sour backup QB if pressed into service? Give me Wheeden, guy at least wants to play AND he has a ton of recent starter experience - he's pretty typical #2 QB stock. I liked how Orton performed for us last year when pressed into service, but at this point he couldn't be creating more trouble for Dallas if he was up in the schoolbook depository window.

I read this as Orton is simply holding out for more money, and he'll likely get it. I don't know if he causing the cowboy grief at this point as Wheeden needs all the reps he can get anyway. I would expect this will all be settled by TC. It all comes down to this, do the cowboys trust Wheeden to be a starter if necessary, because they know Orton can fill in and get the job done. I would like to think this offense will be so good almost anyone can drive the bus. It'll be interesting to see how it all shakes out; however the bottom line is, we're way better off at back-up QB than we've been in a long, long, time.

I believe this offense is good enough that Orton could do the job, not sure about Wheeden. If they give Orton more money strictly based on starts, I'd be fine with it.

If Orton wanted more money he should not have choked like a dog on the final possession against the Eagles.

All we needed to win was a FG and the dude throws the ball 5 feet behind Miles Austin for the game ending pick. I tell Orton and his agent that losing the only game he played the entire season does not warrant more money. I tell him that he should be working on his accuracy and not worrying about his contract during the off season.

I literally laugh in his face if he tried to play me like that.

He wanted more $? You don't miss sessions that deescalate your base salary under that scenario. Also, when in the history of the NFL has a backup QB held out? I've seen young guys demand trades but never a straight up back up on a large deal holdout. Any decent agent would make that clear.

Simplest explanation. He wants to quit but doesn't want to give back 3 mill

Yea, I think you are right about him just wanting to reitre and keep the money. He already is the highest paid backup in the league, how much more dam money does he want?

Like I said in my previous post, if he wanted more money he should have found a way to win the only game he played in last year. Don't blow a game with the division title on the line and then come to me and say you want more money.

Dude just retire *****.

I know.

Doesn't he get it?

Nobody wants him unless it's on a minimum deal at this point.

Does he really think he can take the money and run like Ratliff did?

And after he shafts Dallas.

..does he think for a second any team is going to sign him?

Doubt it.

Who would want a guy that treats his team like that with no mitigating circumstances for walking away?

No brains this guy Orton.

Choked like a dog, with no reps for 2 years and 2 days to prepare for a game? LOL Thank you for that gem of wisdom.

I haven't heard anything about Orton holding out for more money. I just think he doesn't want to play here and doesn't want to pay Jerry anything. If he makes the Cowboys cut him, he doesn't have to write a check. And the cowboys can fine him up to somewhere in the neighborhood of $1.5 million if he continues to fail to report through TC, but they have to keep him no the roster.

It's just more front office bumbling. Ratliff and now Orton are two of Jerry's most embarrassing failures. Guys would rather lose money to pay anywhere but here.

The fines are just taken out of his salary, no? In which case I expect the fines probably don't add up to his full salary.

Orton really doesn't have to do anything - just not show up, he still gets paid (a little less than he would if he did because of the fines), but doesn't have to retire.

Best the team can do is file a grievance?

Where is this coming from and why do you think we would pay him one cent more? I don't see it.

Lets just suppose Tony isn't (completely) right during pre-season, then what do you see? Here's why I say this, last year we heard Tony had a cyst removed and he was good to go right? He wasn't. This year Jerry said at the time of the surgery, Tony should be full go by April OTA's, he wasn't. Now it's "full go" by training camp, will he be? I don't think so, at best he'll be eased in with light reps.

Now, mind you, he hasn't tried game simulations yet, where he has to make throws off balance and across his body, that is a huge hurdle. They say Tony has shown zip on the ball, well, when you can step into a throw we all can have zip on the ball.
How will he react to high reps? These are serious questions that even Tony and the Cowboys can't answer at this point. We ALL hope for the best, but what if, I'm not ready to go down the road with Wheeden as the big dog. Are you? Let Orton sit and rot, but if we end up NEEDING him, then yes, I have no problem paying him a bonus per start.

If the Cowboys simply cut the guy I'll be angry. Either he plays for Dallas or he retires and gives back the bonus.

Either.

Or.

I disagree. Ratliff was a pretty unique situation. The word is Orton doesn't want to play anymore. It isn't Jerry's fault that Orton has lost his fire.

Only scenario that Orton loses is if we are willing to keep him on as a 3rd QB without having him actually show up. Fines are 1.5 million and if he retires he owes 3 million. So he Gaines 1.5 million this way and most likely gets cut when we go to 53.

He then either gets picked up by a team with a favorable situation for him or he retires down only 1.5 million instead of 3 million.

No.

The Cowboys wouldn't have to cut him when they go to their final 53.

They simply put him on the "Did not report" list.

They avoid having to pay him this season and they still control his rights.

Lost his fire to take practice reps and be the backup? If that's the case, why hasn't he retired? If he's the type of guy who has no intention of playing again, but won't retire so he can milk as much money from the team as possible, yeah that's a pretty embarrassing thing for the team.

Ah, well then it's only if we are willing to deal with the press then. We should just stop talking about it.
